Growing out of O/Modernt’s New Generation initiative, the New Generation Symphony Orchestra (NGSO) was founded in 2024. The NGSO brings together a select group of musicians, aged between 14 and 28, from all over Europe to study and perform with O/Modernt principals. Embarking on a voyage of self-discovery, members of the NGSO meet at the Queen Silvia Concert Hall in Stockholm for rehearsals and masterclasses, complemented by workshops focusing on movement, dance, breathing, meditation, and improvisation. This all-round approach frees classically trained players from the constraints of correctness, allowing them to express their creativity in uninhibited productions characterised by life, joy, and a dynamic sense of flow. In the spirit of O/Modernt, the NGSO prioritises adventurous combinations of musical genres that offer fresh perspectives on performance practice and the listening experience.

In August 2024 the New Generation Symphony Orchestra performed its first concerts, with a programme of Scandinavian music at Kungasalen, Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm and the Konzerthaus Berlin, under the auspices of the Young Euro Classic Festival.
