Taiwan's Coast Guard is detaining a China-linked cargo ship after a nearby undersea cable is disconnected. A statement from Taiwan's Coast Guard says the ship did not respond to repeated communication attempts. Soon after the ship dropped anchor, a Taiwan telecom company detected the internet cable was cut. The ship is registered in the African nation of Togo, but with Chinese funding Taiwan's Coast Guard says the ship has lingered in waters near the cable since Saturday. A similar incident occurred in January. Taiwanese authorities say this could be a gray zone tactic by Beijing. That's a reference to provocative actions below what can be counted as acts of war. Taiwan's Coast Guard took the vessel and its crew to Taiwan and is investigating the matter.
