Now she's the original screen siren from the golden age of Hollywood and the world's fascination with Marilyn Monroe
Continues even 50 years after her death and fashion photographer Milton H
Green famously shopped the actress on many occasions during her short life and the two became close friends
Now never-before-seen video footage that he filmed of Marilyn has been shown to the public for the first time in an
Exhibition called some like it hot Timothy white is the curator and he joins us now
Good morning to you Timothy now Milton H Green first met Marilyn Monroe almost 60 years ago
So why is this footage only just being seen now?
Well, I'm a part owner in a gallery that represents celebrity photographers who photograph
musicians and actors and
we decided to do this exhibition of Milton's work and then I found out through looking at the images and talking with the
Archivist who happens to be his son that there was this footage that he had shot of Marilyn
That he had just taken almost his home movies with a 16 millimeter camera when they were together either on movie sets or on his
Sets or in different places and that there was this collection of imagery that we could show alongside the photographic exhibit
Yeah, and that footage is incredibly personal as well. It shows a video from Marilyn's wedding to playwright Arthur Miller in
1956 which really shows a different side. We never see her this candid. Yeah, it's true
I mean in so many of the images and there's a lot of different clips that are put together
You can just tell that she's comfortable with the photographer. She's not on for the camera necessarily
She is just there and Milton Green happens to be her friend who happens to be photographing her
And so there's a different side of this icon this very mysterious woman. That seems
Sort of wonderful amazing footage
So green was was allowed onto movie sets with Marilyn and a lot a lot of his work was shot there
Is it true that they were quite inseparable?
They were good friends for a very long time. In fact, they had a production company together
They did the movie bus stop together, and I'm not sure the second one
But there is another movie that they did together and they had a production company for 10 years. So they worked together both
in film and and in the still
Realm because he was really trying to help her get away from the stereotype that blonde dumb blonde
He was trying to help her do that, wasn't he? Well, I'm not so sure about helping her for that particular reason
But they were friends and he supported her and she was his muse. They they worked together constantly
In fact her son Joshua who represents her his father's archive
Remembers her babysitting him when he was a child because she was at their house all the time
There is a photograph from the exhibition
It's one of greens most famous of Marilyn, but the shoot wasn't quite as effortless as it looks in the pictures. Was it?
Be honest with you. I'm not quite sure of what went on during the shoot itself
But I do know the results are
Unbelievable and a big part of the time they spent together was at Milton's house where he had a studio a barn
And so many of the photo shoots were done there including the famous black session, which is that black background session?
You might be referring to yeah
Well, look, it's fascinating stuff Timothy
Congratulations on securing it and showing it the photographs of Marilyn can be viewed and purchased online here in Australia at Morrison Hotel gallery
