The Irish Guy takes a look at Frank Lampard's sacking at Chelsea this week.
Hello and welcome to HITC Sport.
Alright, Chelsea fans right now are in a state of utter depression.
He's gone.
This, to be honest with you guys, is a really painful video to make.
It's going to take a long time for me to get over this.
The best player to ever play for Chelsea Football Club sucks.
It's tearing me apart right now.
I just...
I feel like I've lost connection with my club.
I was actually on the brink of tears when I saw the news on Sky Sport.
Oh, I'm almost going to cry.
This is a hateful club.
Oh, it's so hard.
Why doesn't this club have any feelings?
Losing someone like this, it's really tough.
I don't know what to say anymore.
You'd swear these guys are being dumped on the spot.
That's the face of a guy who just came home to find his suitcase on the porch
and being told he's lost custody of the kids.
Losing someone like this, it's like losing your dad or something.
Christ above, you'd swear Lampard had been hit by a bus.
Look at this guy, paying tribute to his fallen manager
by spending two hours wearing his shirt back to front.
Oh, lads, for the last 24 hours,
Chelsea fans moaning about the decision to sack Frank Lampard.
As if sacking managers hasn't been part of your personality for the last 20 years.
The epicentre of the club is poison.
Roman Abramovich is seen as Chelsea's saviour, and rightly so.
But let's not sit here and just pretend
that he doesn't have the patience of a pregnant Simon Cowell.
We wanted to get away from the sacking culture.
We hired Frank Lampard.
I'm sick and tired of sacking culture.
It doesn't work. Like, it clearly doesn't work.
And, you know, it's worked over the last 20 years.
Yes, exactly right. For the last 20 years.
That's what Chelsea success is built on.
You cannot accept nearly 20 trophies under this regime
and pretend the culture doesn't work.
How naive can you be?
Why, are you going to give back all those Champions League medals now
because you just happened to sack the guy who won it?
Christ above, how naive can you be?
It's like accepting a brand new tracksuit from grandma for Christmas
and choosing to ignore the fact that a bunch of Chinese six-year-olds
had to lose their fingers for you to get that present.
If you're a Chelsea fan and campaigning against the sacking culture,
then it's like someone wearing a fur coat out to dinner
before going home to write a long blog on Facebook
about the perils of animal cruelty.
It's just a bit ironic.
Frank Lampard, man.
Is it really that sad?
A man who is earning nearly £8 million a year has lost his job.
For some reason, I don't think he's going to have to pick up a night shift
cleaning the toilets of strip clubs in West London, now do you?
Anyone who's angry at this, what?
Do you want to persist with a man who clearly isn't working
just because of his legend status at the club?
That's how you turn into Arsenal FC.
And over time, your fan base will mutate into a bunch of angry zombies.
Wow. I'm blown away.
Am I the only one who remembers Roman Abramovich
has actually sacked ten managers?
This is like being surprised that Henry VIII was spending his mid-50s
attending a singles night at his local nightclub.
No, no, no. The man's had six f***ing divorces.
You're not going to be shocked when you hear he's dumped the latest one
for spilling milk on his rug.
Listen, the reason this probably feels like every Chelsea fan
has just been punched in the kidneys is because it's Frank Lampard.
The world-class midfielder.
Arguably the best player in the club's history.
And so yeah, it does seem a bit weird to sack a person
who should arguably have a statue built outside the ground.
But please, you have to separate the world-class player
from the guy making decisions in the dugout.
Lampard's managerial CV prior to taking this job
was on par with f***ing Steve Cooper.
You know, the Swansea manager,
who also failed in the playoffs in his first ever season.
So you reckon if Chelsea were sacking Cooper
after six defeats in a month,
do you reckon these fans would be resembling a bunch of One Direction fans
who've just been told that Zayn isn't coming back?
No, no, they'd be dancing in the streets.
Just because you were world-class at one job in a particular company
doesn't give you free reign to try your hand at every other position in the place.
For example, I don't see him being a particularly good canteen lady now, do you?
For one thing, he doesn't have a vagina.
Forget, forget what he was as a player.
Christ, well, Gianfranco Zola was a Chelsea legend.
But you'd probably rather stick your head out with a pencil sharpener
than see him back in the dugout.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbeck was a top player with over 90 goals for your club.
But he's currently the boss of Burton Albion Elite One.
You are Chelsea Football Club, a billion pound corporation.
If you are serious about winning back your crown
as the country's top dogs,
you need to shove sentimentality in the bin.
This was the same outraged reaction when Roberto Di Matteo was sacked in 2012.
But at least he'd won something as a manager.
You could understand why some Chelsea fans
might need to have been talked down off a balcony.
But within six months, you had Jose Mourinho back in charge,
while Di Matteo lasted 12 games at Villa Park
before being sacked for Steve Bruce.
If you were out of your way, Di Matteo would still be at the club.
And you'd probably be lying halfway down the championship,
with players queuing up to drown themselves in the canteen toilets.
Right, let's take a look at some of the reasons for Lampard's dismissal,
as reported by the hipster's holy grail that is The Athletic.
Frank Lampard's relationship with influential director Marina Granovski had deteriorated.
Yeah, so delightfully vague.
Now, if this was one of those guttered tabloid rags,
they'd probably try and spin some sort of Hollyoaks angle
that Lampard had accidentally impregnated his boss,
run over her pet cat and propose to her twin sister by mistake.
But no, no, no, apparently they clashed
because he kept trying to buy Declan Rice in the summer.
Now, listen, during a worldwide global pandemic,
I can understand stocking up on rice at Tesco's,
but, uh, not the fake Irish waster at West Ham,
who kisses so many badges,
he's probably in danger of getting herpes on his lips.
But listen, that alone,
trying to yank Roman Abramovich's wallet for £70 million
to spend on a guy they released from the club at the age of 14.
Now, Chelsea do not like to be reminded of when they failed in the window,
an ego like Abramovich does not like to admit when he's wrong.
Guys, have you ever seen any board member ever acknowledge
the existence of Mo Salah and Kevin DeBruyne were ever at the club?
Never mind, try and find them back from Rome and Wolfsburg when they have the chance.
They're too proud.
There's a reason why they gave Alvaro Morata to Antonio Conte,
rather than pay double the fee they sold Romelu Lukaku for.
This is a board of highly paid financial gurus,
who don't really want to be laughed at at West London cocktail parties,
after essentially admitting they were wrong to pin off Rice,
as if he was a half-empty yogurt pot.
Apparently Lampard also wanted the club to buy James Tarkovsky.
I'm sorry, if the manager of Chelsea Football Club
actually wants to pay £15 million for a 28-year-old Burnley centre-half,
then I'm sorry, he deserves the goddamn sack.
Ralph Rannach was offered interim job last week for four months but turned it down.
What is it with Chelsea and the word interim?
So I guess Gus Hiddink was too busy cleaning his belly button in the bath then, right?
But what this shows is that it clearly wasn't a case of
Chelsea just being seduced by Thomas Tuchel.
No, no, this was a case of
we need anyone but Lampard.
Because Rannach is a fella who's been working for Red Bull so long,
I'm pretty sure his veins are now filled with sugar, caffeine and failed promises.
I mean, Red Bull says it gives you wings.
All I got was a pounding headache in seven hours on the toilet.
Calls were made in recent weeks to stand on Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann.
Again, how is this allowed to happen in modern day football?
Blatantly going behind your manager's back like this,
it's a bit like having a quick scan of Tinder to see if it's worth dumping your wife.
Some players complain about lack of tactical instruction and not spoken to for months.
Yeah, imagine if this was Antonio Conte,
or just anyone who didn't have an emotional connection with the fans
and not being spoken to for months.
What sort of amateur hour is this?
Oh, the player's got Lampard sacked.
Please, Kepa must be sacked.
Kepa, yeah, you are absolutely disgraceful.
You are absolutely disgraceful because you failed to play for your manager.
And have Timo Werner burned to the stake.
Oh yeah, because it's not as if your club's very ethos
has been centred around player power, now is it?
Anthony Villas-Boas blasts Frank Lampard for his lack of support during Chelsea reign.
Chelsea Football Club are an institution which demands the best.
And Lampard's tactics are so basic, run-of-the-mill.
But of course, I'm not blaming him,
because he only got his coaching badges two years ago,
and was being linked with the Oxford job.
I'm sorry, if you were being credibly linked with Oxford United in 2018,
you should not be getting the Chelsea job in 2019.
Before picking Derby County, he was on the running for the Ipswich Town Job.
So clearly, he was viewed in the same managerial class as Paul Lambert,
and still got the Chelsea job.
And look at his backroom staff, Jodie Morris.
Yes, he did well coaching the children in the academy,
but as a Premier League No. 2,
he immediately showed his naivety by mocking Jose Mourinho on the internet.
He said, if you want to be a Twitter troll, then fine.
Allow your virginity to grow back,
throw a sweaty beard belly,
and do it from the comfort of your own living room in your underpants.
But do not try and mock a three-time Premier League winning manager
with over 30 years of experience,
when you are sitting beside a novice.
Honestly, Lampard should have just stayed at Derby County.
Continue to learn his trade in the lower leagues.
Maybe learn how to beat Millwall first,
before you accept the gig at Stamford Bridge.
How did he think he was ready after just 40 games in the Championship?
Don't you tell me Chelsea hired him for his managerial abilities.
No, no, no, no, no.
Roman Abramovic just wanted a familiar name to appease the fans,
to shut up those screaming about how much they hated Sari Ball.
I have no doubt that if John Terry wanted the job,
he'd have probably got it as well.
He could have copied Lampard,
and just chose to audition himself
as a manager of a Championship club for a season,
before getting that big promotion back to the Premier League.
But no, he has the humility to admit that he doesn't know it all yet,
and that he wants to learn under a former Walsall coach,
before targeting a management gig in the next five years.
Five years of learning, he is playing the long game.
That's the more sensible route.
He knows that if he went in for it now,
he'd be an unprepared, naive bag of candle wax,
with a tactical acumen of a block of Swiss cheese.
Lads, Lampard is one with an IQ of 150,
just 10 points less than Stephen Hawking.
Terry, by contrast, looks like the type of guy
who wouldn't be able to locate Mexico on a map.
Yes, his name is JT,
sharing the same initials as another superstar like Justin Timberlake.
But no, I'm thinking he has the brains of Joey Tribbiani.
You know, a fellow who thinks with his knob,
and has a brain made of shepherd's pie.
And yet he is the one making better career decisions right now.
Because honestly, what is the point of Frank Lampard anymore?
Don't get me wrong, I loved him as a player,
but what does he do now?
His entire management career was geared towards
eventually becoming the Chelsea manager.
And now, it's done at the age of 42.
Great, so what's he supposed to do with the next 50 years of his life?
Mow the lawn?
Drink cheap shots of Russian vodka out of his dog's belly button?
While watching morning reruns of Loose Women?
That's just his reality now.
Waking up, pouring a sad bowl of cornflakes,
and listening to his wife debate with Stacey Solomon
on whether or not dad bots are in vogue.
But can you really see him stepping back into the championship with Sheffield Wednesday?
No, no, his life's ambition was to be Chelsea boss.
Not to be the next Tony Pulis,
but am I the only one to think that in rushing his career
by jumping to the pinnacle far too early,
just a case of arrogance.
It's like Jake Paul.
Give him five years of seasoned exhibition boxing matches,
then yeah, maybe then he might stand half a chance of beating Conor McGregor.
But the fellow wants to fight him in April,
when his boxing CV consists of beating Deji,
a FIFA YouTuber,
and a basketball dwarf.
I promise you,
by rushing ahead and demanding a fight with McGregor now,
I promise you,
he'd have his face turned into wet lasagna,
and would probably lose one chunk of his brain.
And so that's exactly what it was like for Lampard.
Stepping into the cutthroat world of Chelsea Football Club,
based on minimal experience,
when world-class coaches would be routinely disposed of before you,
it was arrogant to assume,
because he was a world-class player,
that he could automatically make that seamless transition into world-class manager.
The minute he set foot in the Premier League dugout.
No wonder the likes of Sol Campbell are furious,
at having to prove their worth at Macclesfield and Southend.
When media darlings like Lampard arrive at Stamford Bridge with a silver spoon in his mouth,
I do firmly believe still that Frank Lampard is destined to become a top-class manager.
Based on what?
Because you want it to be?
If your heart is pure, magical things will happen?
No, no, it's not Santa Claus.
There is no shred of evidence to suggest that Lampard is on course to be a world-class manager.
Wake up!
Since when did eighth in the league by February become acceptable for Chelsea Football Club?
Yes, Lampard did well to claw fourth last season in the midst of a transfer ban,
but was it really that good?
They got 66 points,
their second lowest points total since 2002.
Not to mention they conceded 14 goals in eight Champions League matches.
That Chelsea team concedes four at home to Ajax.
This is Chelsea Football Club, do not let your standards drop.
People seem to think he achieved last season,
as if there was some form of success.
No, no, that's like McGregor patting himself on the back,
because he managed to land a few punches on Sunday morning.
No, no, no.
He had two cup finals and he lost them both.
When Avram Grant did that, he was labelled a specialist in failure,
despite winning over 30 games that season.
Chelsea's whole thing is instant success.
If the club were in the business of waiting for rookies to learn on the job,
then Christ above,
they'd have just promoted Brendan Rodgers from the backroom staff back in 2008,
giving him 10 years on the job.
But lads, if that sounds like your idea,
fun, good Christ!
Anyway, that's the end of the lads.
