Piano Solo Concert - 4 Chopin and 4 Oldies, June 18, 2024 by Yaya Wang

Yay! My first solo concert! A big milestone! I made a production of 4 Chopin pieces and 4 favorite oldies and named it “An Evening of Chopin and Favorite Oldies” accordingly.😄

The first Chopin piece was the “Ocean Etude”. It’s quite challenging for my small hands. Actually my teacher was against it for me to play it. I just love it so much that I just went ahead with it. I hope someday I will be able to play it well enough for its original intent.

The second Chopin was Berceuse. It’s also technically very challenging and I had only about 3 weeks before the concert to practice among other pieces. Not where I would like it to be but I enjoyed playing it. It’s really beautiful and one of my teacher’s favorites.

All the oldies were performed by my own arrangements and improvisation. This was completely new to me. It’s a super fun journey of exploring new and different ways of making music! I love the process. And each time I play a song it’s a slightly different arrangement and improvisation, completely impromptu. Sometimes when I was practicing, mom would yell out “Oh I like this version! Can you please remember that?” 🤣

It was a great fun and I learned a lot. Again, I would like to thank Ms. Lori, and Ms Joan for making this wonderful night happen!!!
