Cat scratch disease, also known as cat scratch fever, or sub acute regional lymphadenitis is a bacterial infection affecting the regional lymph nodes proximal to the site of inoculation of bacteria.
Bartonella henselae, a gram negative bacillus, is the major causative agent of cat scratch disease.
Cat scratch disease is more common among children and one of the most common causes of childhood lymphadenopathy.
People with cat scratch disease usually have a history of sustaining a cat scratch or bite prior to the development of lymphadenopathy.
