After a sluggish year for Tesla’s automotive business, CEO Elon Musk is doubling down on humanoid robots to regain investor confidence. During Tesla’s Q4 2024 earnings call, Musk stated that the company aims to manufacture 10,000 Optimus robots in 2025. However, he acknowledged that this is an ambitious goal and that the actual production volume may be significantly lower.

Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, has been in development for years and made its first real-world demonstration in October 2024. While the robot showcased impressive dexterity, skepticism remains about whether it can operate autonomously or is still reliant on remote control. Despite Musk’s bold target, he admitted that Tesla might only produce a few thousand units this year, though he emphasized that even this number would be enough to put Optimus to practical use within the company. “Will we hit exactly 10,000 by the end of December?
