The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings. When it is understood that one loses joy and happiness in the attempt to possess them, the essence of natural farming will be realized - Masanobu Fukuoka, The One-Straw Revolution.

Gardening can be one of the most rewarding activities or hobbies one can take up. Whether you're growing flowers or vegetables, the sheer joy of seeing your plants grow, flower and bear fruits is extremely therapeutic. Gardening is also considered as one of the most effective lifestyle habits that contributes to longevity. But most importantly, growing your own food can have a positive impact on your health.

At Good Food Movement, this has always been our mission - to encourage people to start growing their own food. Or at least try and get closer to the source of their food. And become better individuals in the process.

Last October (2024) Worngachan Shatsang took on gardening as an experiment, and decided to document the entire process. Now, four months later, he has harvested his first batch of broccoli, celery, carrot and coriander. He used a raised bed gardening method - where soil is elevated above ground level in framed boxes, allowing for better drainage, soil control, and easier access for planting and maintenance.

The output wasn't "perfect". The broccolis could have been bigger. Exposure to sunlight could have improved yield too. But that's the truth about farming - it is an ongoing experiment where we constantly seek, learn, and adapt. The key is to let go of yourself and truly become the disciple of nature.
