Astronomers have identified asteroid 2024 YR4, a 300-foot-wide space rock with a growing chance of colliding with Earth on December 2, 2032. Initially thought to have a 1.2% chance of impact, new calculations raised it to 2.3%. The asteroid’s speed of 29,000 mph could trigger an explosion 100 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb, with devastating effects. If it hits, cities within a 12-mile radius could be flattened. However, with 71% of Earth covered by water, a direct hit on land remains unlikely. NASA and ESA are monitoring the asteroid, hoping further observations reduce its threat.
