A new task force from the Trump administration created to investigate
and prosecute the terrorist group Hamas. NTD's Fiona Ji has the latest.
The new memorandum, dated February 5th, comes from the office of U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
It announces the creation of Joint Task Force October 7, or JTF-107 for short.
It's a response to Hamas' attack in Israel on October 7, 2023. Around 1,200 people were killed
in that attack, including 47 American citizens. Over 200 hostages were also kidnapped into Gaza,
including eight U.S. citizens. The memorandum lists specific goals, including
pursuing criminal charges against those responsible for the October 7 attack,
including the death penalty, helping victims of the attack and working on getting hostages back,
seeking the arrest and extradition of certain Hamas leaders, investigating and prosecuting
acts of terrorism, anti-Semitism and other crimes by Hamas supporters in the U.S.,
including on college campuses, investigating and prosecuting those who fund Hamas,
and supporting other non-criminal actions against Hamas.
The memorandum says the Department of Justice will work with the Israeli government,
the U.S. Defense Department and the U.S. Treasury Department in achieving these goals.
This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited President Donald Trump at the
White House last week. Trump has already announced other efforts to combat anti-Semitism,
including signing an executive order that could allow for deporting or cancelling the student
visas of, quote, resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests. Netanyahu has
also invited House Speaker Mike Johnson to visit Israel this year. Fiona Ji, NTD News.
