"Silent Night (German: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht) is a popular Christmas carol composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber in Oberndorf near Salzburg, Austria, to words by Joseph Mohr. It is one of the most recorded Christmas songs, with more than 137,000 known recordings.

"Stille Nacht" was first performed on Christmas Eve, 1818, in the Church of St Nicholas, the parish church of Oberndorf, a village in the Austrian Empire on the River Salzach in what is now Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had arrived in Oberndorf the previous year. He had written the poem "Silent Night" in 1816 in Mariapfarr, his father's hometown in Salzburg's Lungau region, where Joseph had worked as an assistant priest in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars.

For this Christmas carol, it is very nice to see the snowflakes falling. The snowflakes were captured on video by Simone Schlegel just outside our house, in the background there is a fir tree loaded with snow. I wanted to capture the falling snow and hoped that some of the snowflakes would be in focus while everything else would be in a dreemy (unfocused) appearance. I like the way it turned out.
