hi guys welcome back to my channel I
hope you are all doing really well so as
you can see there's a bit of a change of
scene I thought I'd try something a bit
different I am actually on my way into
verburg I'm going to catch the train to
meet up with some of my girlfriends for
dinner we like to have a girls night
once in a while and this is my night
that I have free I'm so excited and I
thought do know what I am just going to
film this video on my way
and yeah leave home a little bit earlier
so I'm just going to stop here I have
got about half an hour until my train
comes this place is a little bit more
hidden um so just yesterday actually I
received a video requests from a lovely
Instagram follower and she asked me what
I would recommend her not to bring when
she visits Germany so she was planning
to visit Germany for 3 months she didn't
want to bring a lot of luggage she
wanted to be a little bit more minimal
with what she brought to Germany and she
just asked anet what is absolutely not
essential to bring to Germany please can
you make a video about this or just tell
me what you recommend me not to bring
sorry the Train's going past and so I
did make a video like this years ago but
I think it's time for an update so this
is in no particular order but something
that I think you just don't need to
bring if you're coming to Germany is
really sort of fancy jissy formal
clothes I have talked about how most
Germans have a pretty casual sort of
practical sense of style and I don't
mean that they dress in a sloppy way
like you do not often see Germans
wearing sweet pants and really like
sloppy clothes but I would say the
German style is pretty much sort of
smart casual so I'm heading out soon to
a nice restaurant in the middle of the
city in verburg and I would say I'm
dressed pretty casually so I am just
wearing like a linen blouse and it's a
little bit hard to show my entire outfit
but this is something that I would wear
during the day as well and I would not
feel out of place wearing this in the
evening here in Germany I feel
absolutely fine in it and I would feel
overdressed if I wore anything more
fancy going out to a restaurant here in
Germany so yeah I just feel like in
general Germans dress in a pretty casual
way but a lot of Germans they do take
pride in how they dress they just don't
wear lots of glitzy glamorous clothes
even when they're out you know even when
they're in restaurants and you know
going out to an opera or something like
that I don't know maybe I'd wear
something a bit more fancy to an opera
but yeah I would still probably feel
fine wearing this to be honest and the
same goes with shoes you do not need to
bring fancy high heels to Germany for
quite a few reasons the main reason is
that there are so many beautiful
cobblestone streets around here at least
in the area of Germany where I live I'm
in lower Franconia Bavaria and
everywhere you go there are just
cobblestone streets for Miles you cannot
wear high heels when you are walking on
cobblestone streets so when I moved to
Germany many years ago I was in my 20s
and I used to like to go to some the
German nightclubs with my husband my
then boyfriend and I brought with me
like three pairs of heels I think and I
remember my favorite heels actually
broke they got caught like the heel got
caught in one of the cobblestones and it
snapped off and I've heard this is quite
a common thing in Germany you know
foreigners come to Germany they wear
heels and they realize it's just not
going to work and yeah so just flag the
heels don't bring heels German women
don't really wear heels very often so
these are the shoes that I'm wearing
tonight and they have just a little tiny
wedge on them honestly these are the
closest thing I have to a heel at the
moment here in Germany I used to own so
many heels and I just don't need them
here cuz no one wears them and they're
just so unpractical so if I was going to
a wedding or something um you know I'd
go out and buy a pair of heels but I
don't need to wear them here and you
don't need to bring them them when you
come to Germany and honestly I'm going
to be 100% honest I was actually quite
tempted to wear my Birkenstock sandals
out tonight I'm serious I've got these
really nice birken stocks in this tan
brown color similar color to the widges
with this quite big Buckle like a gold
buckle and I was going to wear them
tonight to the restaurant and I would
have felt fine I wouldn't have felt out
of place so basically you just need to
wear like if it's summer you need to
just bring a pair of good sandals I
would say Birkenstock style sandals you
know if you don't like Birkenstocks not
everybody does you can find some you
know good quality sandals with a decent
sole on them like comfortable sandals
and you just need one pair of those and
a neutral color and a pair of sneakers
maybe one pair of boots and you're good
to go like you don't need any more shoes
than that and they have to be practical
good quality you're going to be doing a
lot of walking and you're going to be
walking through a lot of cobone street
so Comfort is number one here in Germany
when it comes to clothes and shoes
something else that you do not need to
bring in Germany are too many bags like
too many different purses and things
like that you just need to bring a
backpack and maybe like a little purse
if you're going out in the evening
backpacks are so popular here in Germany
because they are just so practical and
yeah I never wore backpacks until moving
to Germany and now I wear my backpack
all the time I'm a growing woman in my
late 30s and I love wearing my backpack
and you can get some really nice quite
stylish ones and honestly you don't even
need a handbag like I wouldn't feel
weird going to a restaurant with my
backpack on I do have my handbag tonight
but I mean if you want it to be really
minimal just take a backpack like a
neutral color backpack but I would
recommend you take like a little
handback as well
and maybe put that inside your backpack
and yeah then it wouldn't take up too
much space so yeah don't bring all the
fancy purses you're not going to need
them um another thing is you do not need
to bring lots of cosmetic products and
toiletries and things like that of
course if you have some specific
products that you can only get in your
country then bring them along but
Germany has the best drugstores I've
talked about this before I've done lots
of German drugstore hauls has DM Rosman
Miller there's probably more these
drugstores are amazing and they have
everything you need from makeup to body
washers deodorants shampoos just just
everything you could ever want and the
German products are so good and so
inexpensive even some of the sort of
store brands like Bia at DM their
products are so so good and really high
quality and they cost like I don't know
you can get some really great products
for
like12 in New Zealand beauty products
and makeup is so much more expensive so
you know just don't stock up on lots of
makeup and bring it to Germany you can
buy all of that there just bring a few
essentials and go to a d or a Rossman
and you will have an absolute ball just
finding all sorts of things so yeah you
don't need to bring all of that stuff um
something else is sun block sunscreen
you don't need to bring any of that it's
just going to take up room in your
luggage and it's always a bit risky
packing you know liquids in Germany the
sunscreens are very very inexpensive and
really really good so yeah don't bother
bringing that I think I may have
mentioned this in my previous video but
I do want to mention this again because
this still applies if you're coming in
wintertime do not bring too many big
bulky sweaters you know those big chunky
nit sweaters that are really nice but
very heavy and take up a lot of room in
your suitcase you don't need to bring
those because the heating system in
Germany is just so much different to in
New Zealand so in Germany and the shops
inside the homes and restaurants it is
very very warm like hot when it is
wintertime they are very well heated I
should say the contrast in the
temperature when you're inside and
outside in Germany is massive I actually
struggled with this quite a lot when I
first came to Germany going from cold to
hot to cold to hot because in New
Zealand it's pretty cold inside in
wintertime because our heating is not as
advanced and yeah but what I'm getting
at is that you are not going to feel
that comfortable if you are wearing just
really thick Woolen sweaters you're
going to just have to be continuously
taking them on and off and on and off
and then you're also going to be wearing
a big thick coat and yeah you're going
to get sick of that pretty easily so I
would suggest just bringing some light
tops like long sleeved maybe light
sweaters or just like cotton tops or
something like that and bringing a
really good quality
thick jacket or coat and if you don't
have one there are plenty of places you
can go to buy really great coats and
jackets here in Germany so yeah flag all
of the really heavy winter winter
woolies and just pack some really
lightweight clothing and a really good
thick warm jacket you can wear when
you're outside anyway guys I think that
was about it for this video I am about
to go catch my train to bburg to meet up
