In this Thursday Wingtip Review, I'm covering what I consider to be one of the best budget friendly dress boots there are. Get the Thursday Wingtip → https://manly.link/thursday-wingtip
Thursday's known for their rugged casual style,
so I don't blame you for wondering
if they can really pull off a dress boot.
Well, in this Thursday Wingtip review,
I'm taking a look at the popular color number 77 wingtip
to see if it's worth the money.
I'll be covering the style, leather quality,
sole quality, fit and sizing,
and at the end, I gather all my thoughts
into a tidy package so you can decide
whether or not the Thursday Wingtip is right for you.
Let's kick it off and talk about the style.
I picked up the wingtip in color number 77,
which looks similar to museum calf leather.
That's a type of full grain leather
with a marbling patina created in the dyeing process.
I think the varied patina gives these boots
a really distinctive look,
and it's one of the main things
that drew me to the wingtip in the first place.
The wingtip also has a squared toe,
which is a lot less common
and definitely unique amongst Thursday boots.
I've been loving pairing these boots
with a crisp, slim tapered jean.
It completely elevates the casual look,
so even if you're just wearing jeans and a tee,
the whole outfit still looks really classy.
There's a lot of broguing detail throughout the entire boot.
The heel, the vamp, the toe, the ankle, it's very ornate.
I think the amount of detailing in a boot,
calls for simplicity from the rest of your outfit.
I'd stick to solid colors when wearing the wingtip
and avoid wearing too many patterns.
These boots should be the star of the show
in any outfit you put together.
The color number 77 leather is a hand-finished full grain
that measures about 2.5 millimeters
when you include the one millimeter lining.
If you've had experience with other Thursday boots,
this leather is completely different.
It's unlike any other leather they have.
It's almost like the wingtip doesn't even fit in
with the rest of Thursday's offerings.
It's not a bad thing, it's just different.
The leather is stiffer,
which I think works well for the dress boot style.
Of course, the most distinctive aspect of the leather
is that marbled patina.
You either like it or you don't.
Personally, I think it looks great.
And while I think the color variation takes this boot
out of the running for a more formal event,
I think it makes for a much more visually interesting boot
for the office or for Saturday night outings.
As with any dress boot,
I don't expect the leather to be super rugged or anything,
but this leather can definitely withstand some rain,
some slushy sidewalks if it had to.
I wouldn't choose these boots for inclement weather,
but if you happen to get caught outside during a downpour,
there's no way your boots are gonna get ruined.
Caring for the leather on these guys is easy.
I would probably use Saphir Renovator.
It's my top of the line leather conditioner.
I use this on my dress boots specifically
because it adds a nice little subtle shine
back to the leather, but it doesn't darken it at all.
Most formal dress boots have a leather sole.
It's considered the best formal choice
and definitely more classic.
But the Thursday Wingtip actually has the rubber studded sole
that we see on pretty much most Thursday boots.
The rubber studded sole offers a lot more grip and traction,
especially if the ground is wet.
Plus it has more shock absorption
so that your feet won't get as tired
if you're walking around all day.
The only downside I could see to these rubber soles
is that true dress boots, they all have leather soles,
which provide the low profile and the perfect sound
when you're walking on a hard surface in your office like that.
It's just so nice with the leather sole.
So if you want that, if you need that,
this just ain't gonna cut it.
But that aside, otherwise,
rubber soles tend to be more durable and more comfortable.
So it's really up to you to decide
whether you need a leather sole or not.
The insole of this bad boy is made with Poron
and there is a cork midsole layer as well.
When I resold my Captains,
I got to take a close look and compare Thursday's cork layer
to other boot brands like Red Wing.
So cork midsoles offer a decent balance
of shock absorption and durability and comfort.
The type of cork Thursday uses, it's a little chunkier
so it can break apart and clump up a bit more easy,
but it's still a step up from purely synthetic insoles.
A very fine cork midsole can last five years or more.
And I'd say that my experience with a Thursday cork midsole,
it pegs the durability more like three years.
Because the wingtip is longer than other Thursday boots,
the same sizing rules apply.
You should order a half size smaller
than your standard sneaker size.
Because the wingtip is narrow,
that's part of what makes them dressy and sleek,
but for guys with double E width feet,
it's just, it's not gonna work, I don't think so.
The wingtip is quite comfortable,
though it does fit a bit snug at first.
The leather stretches a little bit as they break in,
so don't worry if you're, you know,
they got them on and they're feeling a little bit tight,
but if your feet are ever tingling or anything like that,
that means they are definitely too tight
and you probably have to return them.
So I always recommend wearing your boots inside the house
for an hour or two before going outside.
That way you can kind of see like,
okay, if my feet are tingling, then time to return them
and then the soles won't be damaged at all
and so it'll be no problem returning them.
This isn't my first rodeo with Thursday Boot Company.
I don't think it's gonna be the last
because I'm a big fan of this brand
and I'm a big fan of this boot.
It's so unique to Thursday's offerings.
It's unlike any other boot they have,
which I think is super cool.
The leather's really interesting.
That museum calf type of patina they've added onto that.
I think that's really cool
and I definitely think it gives this boot
a very distinctive look, even though it takes it out of,
it's like, makes it not formal anymore, that's fine.
This is a great casual boot you can wear
that definitely elevates an outfit, you know,
with jeans or something like that.
All of a sudden, boom, you're looking classy.
I definitely recommend trying them on
for an hour or two inside your home
because they're so slim that, you know,
there's gonna be some guys who get this
and it's gonna be too narrow for them.
So if your feet are, like, if you're ever on the edge
of being like an E or something like that,
sometimes you order E widths,
you're definitely gonna wanna be aware of that
when getting a Thursday wingtip
because there's a chance it might not fit your feet.
Still, if it's just a little snug,
the leather is gonna stretch out,
so, you know, don't be so like, oh, it's snug,
boom, it's gone, like, I'm returning it right away.
Give it a chance, see if your feet start tingling,
then it's too small.
If they don't, then you are good to go.
You can probably break those in.
Overall, I'm a fan of the Thursday wingtip.
It's a unique and dressy boot
that's still comfortable enough to wear for a full day,
and that's great for guys going to the office
or if you just wanna wear it on a date night
and you got a lot of walking around to do,
this is a great boot.
