Foreigner Worth 500K meets Chinese Taxi Driver

is it illegal to talk bad about the government is he calling the police on me or what this is Julius Mars he asked a taxi driver in China what happens when you talk badly about the government and the taxi driver called the police and yes it was the right question to ask why because you cannot criticize the government in China there's a reason why every YouTuber that lives in China only talks about the positives of China well because all the negative ones Julius after asking that question me and others who talk negatively about China are seen as what's something called a walking 500k yes a walk-in cash reward for reporting us a few years ago the CCP ramped up its so-called anti-spying or counter Espionage efforts and since then they've launched a national campaign essentially to get people to rat others out to spy on us and to essentially be incentivized to give people's name who they think are spies in order to get exchange for a cash reward up to 500,000 Yen or about $70,000 because it sounds so ridiculous it became a big meme in China and so the idea of a walking 500k was born Julia says bro really snitched on me for 500k on Instagram he also commented update from Chinese jail it's not as bad here after all they kindly informed me I don't need my liver anyway so they're just going to take it out of me and let me free hilarious by the way check out his channel I'm not so sure when he's going to publish a full video on this if he does uh but really awesome content from Julius Mars now let's talk about the taxi driver's reaction was it Justified well I've been reading a lot of comments on this and there's really two ways to look at it the first one is that he has no other choice but to do this in order to preserve his own innocence in the process while obviously he was scared that a foreigner sitting next to him started filming him and asking him this very uh very sensitive question so it seems like the only way is to ask and to call the police and say hey what do I do in this situation clearly I'm not trying to get into trouble now the second reason is or the second way is that they've been incentivized to do this and who doesn't want a $500,000 cash especially if you happen to walk upon or in this case Drive some really really Advanced uh foreign spy in the case you know it happens to be one you get a 500,000 men in cash reward who wouldn't want that so there's really two ways to look at this but the conclusion is the same the action itself proves that whatever they're trying to bring wash in China it does work sometimes and really recording this type of stuff actually shows that what they're doing is incentivizing this type of false patriotism nationalism at its fullest in order to try to boost their so-called anti-spying campaign this comment's so funny imagine being an innocent tourist asking where the government buildings is for cultural exchanges uh but the taxi driver drives you to prison instead imagine that can you imagine going to Paris and being like I want to see the presidential Palace or the White House you know and then the DC Metro driver to sends you to the I don't know the police station or the taxi driver The Uber takes you to the police station it's unimaginable you know what's really funny though taxi drivers a few years ago before all this crazy stuff happened they were viewed as uh some really well informed people the most informed people actually in Beijing because what happens for chitchatting with the passengers for you know going to the airports or whatnot it's a pretty long drive they ended up spilling a lot of these like secretive information about the Chinese Communist party and so they were seen as these sneaky sort of information dealers um and at some point it really got them into trouble so my guess is now they've completely switched up their role and became informants for the ministry of State security in China remember I said that the walking 500k is a meme now right for [Music] [Music] this was a video produced by a police station on the Walking 500k so essentially what they're saying is if you saw somebody who didn't know the secret Chinese poetic phrases uh as some sort of a secret passcode and the answers to them well chances are you're probably a walking 500K [Music] [Music] [Music] and this was a live streamer on December 24th 2024 saying that beware of those surrounding you who are walking 500ks if they don't don't know a Chinese band duel called Phoenix Legend and so of course a lot of the comments in in on this video sarcastically said that yes I am a walking 500k I am a spy because I'm too young to know who Phoenix Legend is that's like saying if you ask a Zoomer who insync is and they have no idea they must be a spy and apparently it's so comprehensive even kindergarten caregivers are studying how to catch them baby spies in the kindergarten rooms and this guy actually received 10K in Yan uh not US dollars for reporting a [Music] spy [Music] [Music] for you might be wondering or you might have this question now how would they actually know if the person is a spy or is it doesn't really matter well let me just give you the criteria cuz you must be wondering if you watching this video you are also a walking 500k so listen to this are you a person with ambiguous jobs multiple titles and plenty of money or are you a person who likes to raise controversial ra uh topics and stir up arguments and secretly observe the crowd in public Gatherings okay sounds pretty creepy Nobody Does that but apparently if you're walking 500k you do are you a journalist station abroad involved in foreign affairs family missionaries and some members of NGO so I assume things like I don't know the uh Amnesty International or something like that other criterias what if you have a a legitimate job but working hours are very irregular and seems to always be doing nothing how about if you're an international student who studied in multiple different countries or who have study abroad at a level that's very inconsistent with your age or or what about if you often care about and ask sensitive sensitive questions to people around you uh not just those in the fields of politics military public opinion and business Etc lastly are you regularly going to a place to meet with other people and exchanging items and gifts or are you frequently in various academic seminars or business meetings and often make reactionary remarks uh exaggerate the advantage of foreign countries and actively talk and ask friends with other or make friends with others okay so even if you try to be a an outgoing person you might be a walking 500k and it also includes things like uh friends who used to not like studying suddenly start to ask you advice on how to uh get into different professions looking up materials and focus on sensitive issues uh or during a normal chat the other party would insist on talking about the superiority of other countries and deliberately bring up controversial topics to observe others reactions to it or somebody with a complex background wealthy individual uh but doesn't seem to work a regular job so if you see yourself belonging to one of these criterias or you feel like that's that's me well you're walking 500k as operate would say you're walking 500k now
