A veiled warning from China's foreign minister Wang Yi to U.S. top diplomat Marco Rubio.
Behave yourself.
Wang conveyed the message in his first phone conversation with Rubio last Friday, according
to a foreign ministry statement.
Wang told Rubio, quote, I hope you will act accordingly.
This is a Chinese phrase typically used by a superior to warn an employee to behave and
take responsibility for their actions.
Rubio is the first sitting Secretary of State to be banned from traveling to China.
The Chinese regime shanked him over his support of human rights in China.
During his confirmation hearing, Rubio called China, quote, most potent and dangerous near
peer adversary this nation has ever confronted.
We welcome the Chinese Communist Party into the global order, and they took advantage
of all of its benefits, and they ignored all of its obligations and responsibilities.
Instead, they have repressed and lied and cheated and hacked and stolen their way into
global superpower status, and they have done so at our expense.
A U.S. statement about the phone call didn't mention the phrase.
It said Rubio told Wang that the Trump administration would advance U.S. interests.
Rubio also expressed serious concern over China's coercive actions against Taiwan in
the South China Sea.
NTD reached out to the State Department for comment, but didn't hear back before airtime.
