Julius Fucík's most famous and probably most beautiful march is called 'Florentiner Marsch'. It is his Opus 214. We know from his diary entries that the piece was completed on 3 December 1907 as 'La Rosa di Toscana'. It is not known for certain why he renamed it 'Florentiner March' on 6 January of the following year. It is likely, however, that his publisher had a say in the matter and that political considerations may have played a role. Be that as it may, the Florentine March is a perfect example of Fucík's special march-writing skills. Both the version for symphony orchestra and especially the version for wind band have made the composition one of the most frequently played marches in the world.
