Genghis Khan: The Rise of History's Greatest Conqueror. Today, we will travel back in time to the 13th century – a period full of upheaval but also splendor. Genghis Khan: The Rise of History's Greatest Conqueror. The Hard Childhood of Temüjin
Temüjin, the birth name of Genghis Khan, was born in 1162. He came from a prestigious family on the steppes. His father, Yesügei, was the leader of the Mongol Kiyat tribe. At the time of Temüjin's birth, many Mongol tribes existed, but most were loosely controlled by the Jin Dynasty. The steppes, with their high terrain and harsh climate, were not valued by the Jin, being only a buffer zone against threats from the north. This inadvertently created an opportunity for the Mongol tribes to thrive.
From a young age, Temüjin demonstrated exceptional talent. He was taught by the best instructors on the steppes, learning the skills of a fierce warrior and mastering three languages: Old Turkic, Mongolian, and Jurchen.
Genghis Khan: The Rise of History's Greatest Conqueror. His First Love
According to Mongol tradition, when Temüjin was 9 years old, his father took him to his mother’s family to find a future wife. On the way, they encountered the chieftain of the Onggirat tribe. Recognizing Temüjin’s potential, Duglat invited the father and son to his home and introduced his daughter, Börte, to Temüjin. The two families quickly arranged the marriage. At 17, Temüjin married Börte, and she became his first and most cherished wife.
