You know the dual sport trips where everything, I mean EVERYTHING goes wrong? It seemed like we just couldn't catch a break, and yet it turned into one of the most spectacular series of rides in my life, and that says a lot! Stay tuned for more scenery of this AMAZING two-week adventure!
Adventure motorcyclists expect difficult things to happen.
Weirdly, it's part of the allure, and not everybody understands that.
It's been said many times by many people, that adventures start where things get difficult,
or go wrong, or break. And by that definition, my friends and I have had no shortage of adventure
over the last week. We had a shredded clutch cable and two dead batteries before we even
got out of the driveway. We had shade tree tire changes, forgot critical gear, and catastrophic
failure with a shattered water pump cover. We had fogging face shields and broken cameras.
There was wind, ice, rain, snow, bikes swallowing sand, fender clogging clay,
and everything in between. There were crashes, and blown fuses, and more trailside repairs than
I've ever witnessed. We had every excuse in the book to be angry with our circumstances,
with our machines, and with each other. But like most riders in the adventure world,
whether weekend warriors like us, or seasoned world travelers, even though we lost our cool
at times, we knew that if we pushed on and kept our heads up, things would get better.
And they did. Just like they always do.
So
to people who have followed this channel for a long time, I probably sound like a broken record
here. But I need to constantly remind myself that things get better. We can fix what's broken.
We can change our course. We can heal. We can learn. And we can grow.
All we have to do is look up, grit our teeth, and move ahead.
We don't know exactly what's around the next corner, and it's not always good,
but if we go far enough, if we endure, we'll find exactly what we need,
and exactly what we were looking for. And realize that those two are often the same things.
