KOREA'S BIGGEST MARKET (Namdaemun Market)
For some reason...
That is the very first time we've taken a bus in a city on this entire year-long trip.
Yeah, for some odd reason we've always, always preferred trains.
They're just way more fun, but sometimes they're even longer than the buses, and we still do them anyway.
For some reason we've been hesitant until today, but it was very easy.
You can use the same T-Money card that you use for the trains, so that was really nice.
We did have to Google how to use the bus while we were riding the bus, but we figured it out. It was great.
So what are we doing today?
Today we are heading to South Korea's largest market called...
Oh man, I lost it.
It's called Namdaemun Market.
It's a 24-hour market, so I'm pretty excited. It's supposed to be just absolutely massive.
We did read, though, and it happens to be Sunday today,
we did read that a lot of the shop keeps will close on Sunday, so we're hoping some are still open.
This market has an unexpectedly relaxed vibe to it.
It's so peaceful.
Yeah, there's plenty of people here and stuff, but it's very quiet.
Everyone's very polite, and it's a little different. It's kind of cool, though.
Maybe it's because they just opened, and it's Sunday.
Probably has a lot to do with it.
We came to this market for food.
I'll update everyone on how that goes.
Yeah, it's nice. It's nice.
That area actually got really crowded. I found a nice place to stay over here.
Tia's over there bargain hunting still.
I think she's found like two more shirts.
How much was it?
$4. It was used, but it's linen, and this one got really beat up on our motorcycle trip, so I'm happy.
Another white shirt.
This is a feeding frenzy of hat shopping.
I love it.
Oh my gosh.
So one thing about this market that's actually been pretty surprising is that I did not expect to see so many counterfeit things.
I thought there would be stricter rules about it, but apparently not.
Interesting.
Okay, we've been wandering around the clothing section for like 20 or 30 minutes now.
We came here for food.
But it's just so much fun. There's just so many shops.
I don't know if I mentioned it, but there's like 10,000 shops here on any given day, except for Sunday.
But I do smell food.
Yeah, I can smell it too.
So we must be heading in the right direction.
This looks like it's going to be good.
Uh-oh.
What happened?
Oh my gosh, we just walked down this alleyway and immediately got just like, just swarmed by these little ladies in these like aprons and like gloves.
And they're all just like trying to get our attention and yelling at us.
Trying to get us to sit at their thing.
We finally came to this really, really persistent lady.
And I'm not sure what we ordered.
She kind of just started pointing at things and we're like nodding our head.
And it kind of looks like feet.
Yeah, I got...
Oh, there's so much steam coming off of it.
Your noodles look different than my noodles.
Yeah, yours are like flat.
Maybe I got the dumpling soup.
I think I got knife cut noodles.
I'm going to try.
It's very flavorful.
It has like a salty seaweed taste.
There's also sesame in there.
Some tofu.
I think we have the same soup.
This is great for like a rainy, cold day.
And I love how much steam just comes off of it.
That's so cool.
We have the exact same soup except my noodles are like way slimier.
And I love that texture.
Look at that.
So is it like a dumpling or?
Kind of.
Oh wait, yeah.
They're kind of just like folded noodles.
And we got all these side dishes too included.
There's like these cold noodles.
And they're red.
With an egg on it?
Yeah.
Alright, there's a lot going on here.
Yeah, it's busy.
It's like a spicy kimchi noodle.
With an egg and sesame on top.
Is it cold?
Yeah, it's cold.
Ooh, that's really good though.
This is craziness in here.
That's busy.
This place, I think that's the best kimchi I've ever had.
Oh my gosh.
That was so much fun.
I was like, we're all crowded on this table.
And my elbow was with the ladies next to me's food.
And Shabina's elbow was with my food.
It was just fun.
Alright, I still want something with a little bit more substance though.
Because we just had noodles.
Are you still hungry?
Oh yeah.
And definitely something sweet.
And also maybe something to drink.
We're doing a lot of walking here, so don't judge.
What are we in line for?
Donuts.
It's a really long line, so you know it's good.
Oh, which one do I get? Which one do I get?
Tia found dessert.
I think it's dessert.
They said it was dumpling king.
Or king dumpling.
We can go either way.
Okay.
There's a little bit of a language barrier, but I pointed to two.
And I don't know what's inside of it.
It's kind of heavy, so it feels like there's filling.
Holy moly.
Is that bean paste?
Oh, I can see the steam coming out of it.
It's like a deep-fried donut filled with hot, sweet bean paste.
That is delicious.
Oh my gosh.
Why did we only get two?
You got me one?
Yeah, I got you one.
You got something different.
It's kind of crispier on the outside.
Hello.
Tia's still hungry.
Let's see what he gets.
How do you eat them?
Can I buy a little bit?
What is that?
It's a bug.
It's a bug?
Yeah.
We never tried one in all the countries we've been, so I'm just going to do it.
Wow.
It kind of smells like steamed corn.
That's juicy.
I'm really glad she let me try just one.
I can taste its little legs and stuff.
Oh my gosh.
Wow.
Did you get more bugs?
Okay, so the actual flavor wasn't that bad, but it was kind of the sensation because it was like a mixture between crunchy and also kind of mushy.
And as soon as I bit into it, everything just...
So I bought this instead.
I think it's just a donut.
Oh, that's delicious.
It tastes like that soft, crispy, doughy Chinese donut.
So I'm dipping it into a custard.
It just has a bunch of powdered sugar on it, and I'm digging this.
This is good.
Is this helping wash out the taste of bug guts?
Yep, yep, yep.
Electronic stores.
That phone store actually had really good deals.
It was $4 for a glass screen protector, and he put it on for us.
So my screen's been cracked for the last, like, two months, and Shibuyo's like, oh, it's fine, it's fine.
But he got his cracked the other day, and he's been freaking out.
So we had to get one, of course.
Because Tia always cracks hers.
Not true.
I lost Shibuyo for a second, I turned around, he's ordering more food.
Honestly, he's just a giant black hole.
Honestly, how do you still have room?
After eating the bug, I've just been craving, like, something cinnamon-y and sweet.
Oh, is that sweet?
Yeah, it's a Korean honey-filled cinnamon pancake, I think.
Wait, you just had a donut. What are you talking about?
Oh, oh my god. This is amazing. Oh my god.
I love that it's just, like, inside of a Dixie cup with paper towel. I love that.
Oh, this lady, I was just walking by, and she saw me, and she started, like, kind of just beckoning me in.
They always get me. Those sweet old ladies.
Does it kind of taste like roti?
No, it's crunchier, and it's filled with, like, a sweet honey.
Oh.
You want to try it?
Yes.
Too bad you didn't get one.
Hey!
Tia throwing shade at me for getting another dessert, and here she is.
This has kind of turned into, like, a Korean dessert food tour.
It smells like, like, sweet honey cinnamon pancakes.
And it's buttery, too.
That's hot.
Hot. So hot.
This tastes just like cinnamon toast crunch mixed with a pancake.
Ooh, that's a good way.
But, like, a million times better.
That's a really good way to describe it.
Oh my gosh, that's delicious. How much was this?
A little over a dollar, like $1.25.
Good call. I like it.
Even being a Sunday, and some of the shops being closed, this place is popping.
Yeah, this kind of gives, what's it called? Chatuchak?
Yeah, in Bangkok.
A run for its money?
Okay, so what's the game plan?
Okay, so the game plan right now is to head back to our hotel,
start editing this video to have it posted tonight,
because tonight, later, we're going to go see some amazing people
and have dinner and drinks with them.
So, yeah.
So we'll see you guys then.
It's about six hours later, but we did get the editing done.
I definitely have, like, computer brain right now.
Yeah, we've been late on a lot of the vlogs lately,
so we just wanted to get it actually done so that we could upload it tonight.
Sorry, you guys. It's been a little crazy on this side of things.
Yeah, so if you guys are familiar with this channel, you probably know who we're meeting.
We've been to five countries with them?
Yeah, they've become really good friends of ours,
and if you're new to the channel, let us introduce you guys to...
Hold on, hold on.
Okay, so this is Lisa, and this is Josh.
Hello.
So, cheers to you guys driving a motorbike across an entire country somehow,
and then making it here, and now we're doing this for the fifth country in a row that we've done this,
and it's just so cool.
Cheers.
So what did we get?
So we all decided to get Mexican food, because why not?
And we all ordered the exact same thing.
We all got giant chalices of beer and burritos.
Alright, so Josh, why did we get Mexican food?
Okay, so one, finding this place was amazing.
It was an elevator off the side, and then you go up the elevator,
and once you get there, it's like one of those hidden secret layers where there's nothing on the door.
You just open it up, and then you're in this other room where there's nothing in there,
and then you hit the little button, and then, boof, Mexican restaurant out of nowhere.
And we all came here because Lisa and I, we haven't had Mexican food in forever, and we missed it.
And I know we're in Seoul.
Don't judge them.
We made them do it.
They didn't.
It was our idea.
We missed Mexican food, too.
It's just so good.
We haven't had it in so long, but the amazing thing that happened is as soon as we all got here,
we all looked at the menu and found the cheapest option that also had the most amount of food instantly,
and we were just like, okay, we'll get the burrito because it doesn't cost a million dollars.
I value that.
Dinner was great.
It's awesome to see these guys again.
Thanks, you guys, for following along with us on this one, and we'll see you on the next one.

What happened?
There's something about this shirt.
My 17-year-old brother would love this.
It kind of looks like him.
It does.
So, love, what did we get?
I can't say anything.
Yeah, you can.
I can't say anything.
It's a secret.
