Welcome to an FCPX toolbox lesson from Pixel Film Studios.
The FCPX toolbox provides Final Cut Pro X users with essential effects and devices that all serious editors can use to finish and polish their projects.
From masking tools to stage lights, the FCPX toolbox can quickly and easily create looks that would otherwise not be possible in Final Cut Pro X.
In this lesson, we will cover the Custom Gradient tool.
This tool allows users to create their own gradient by controlling the colors, spread, angle and blend mode.
For this example, let's use the Custom Gradient tool to create a text backdrop.
Let's begin by selecting a gradient preset from the FCPX titles library and dragging it to the timeline.
For this example, we will use the linear gradient preset.
Next, add a title layer above the gradient layer in the timeline.
Make it the same length.
Now, let's setup our gradient.
Select the gradient layer in the timeline.
Then go to the Viewer window.
Use the on-screen controls to adjust the direction and spread of the gradient.
Now, go to the FCPX Inspector window.
Click on each of the boxes attached to the gradient bar to set the colors.
If you would like the gradient to include more than the default amount, you can click on the bar to add more boxes.
Now for some Additional Information.
The Custom Gradient tool can be composited over a clip or image to create a color grade effect.
Select a clip or image and place it under the gradient in the timeline.
Make it the same length
Then select the gradient, and go to the Inspector window.
Finally, change the blend mode and opacity of the gradient to your liking.
