Are Camels Taking Over Australia?

Hey what's up guys, I'm Alex Farnham and this is Animalist News.
Out of all the dangerous creatures in Australia, one of the biggest pests is the camel.
Now first of all, did you even know that there's around 1 million wild camels there?
I didn't.
Apparently, they were first brought to Australia in the 1800s to help with transportation and
the construction of the transnational railway.
While colonists were correct in thinking that camels can survive better than horses in harsh
drought environments, they were maybe a little bit too correct.
After trains were established, camels' value decreased and many were dumped into the middle
of the desert.
But while their population secretly thrived, the desert's few water sources began to
dry up.
Now besides that, camels wandered into ranches, destroyed fences, and just generally seemed
to annoy the locals.
Nowadays, there's so many wild camels that many Australian ranchers and governments shoot
them on sight.
They've clearly gone from being an invited guest to an unwanted pest.
Hey, that rhymes.
Regardless, scientists speculate that the camel population could easily double every
eight years.
Now that means that there could be 2 million Australian camels by 2022.
So what's your favorite Australian animal?
I wanna do an accent, I wanna do an accent, but I won't.
