Welcome back to Suzy Anderson Home. Have you been wondering how to refresh your home in 2025?
Well in today's video we're sharing part two of our 2025 Interior Design Trends series.
After delving into insights from industry leaders and other designers, it's clear that these aren't
just fleeting trends, they're thoughtful shifts inspired by our evolving lifestyles,
changing priorities and the increasing desire to create homes that reflect our values.

Now let's get started. Hybrid and flexible spaces. As our lives evolve so too must our homes.
Open plan layouts are giving way to zoned living spaces
where distinct areas are created for different activities.
For smaller spaces, a multi-purpose approach is key. Versatile pieces like tables with fold-out
desk attachments, portable task lights and furniture with hidden storage make it easy
comfort and functionality is also essential. Look for furniture with rounded edges, soft
materials and calming colours to ensure your home office feels integrated with your overall decor.
Hidden design elements are also on the rise with concealed doors, built-in cabinetry and
discrete storage solutions like pantry doors or compartments for small appliances,
continues to be at the heart of interior design. Expect to see furniture with organic shapes,
plush forms and soft materials like linen, cotton, velvet and chenille.
Layering different materials also play a big role in creating sensory,
rich environments. Finishes like chalky lime wash, glossy lacquer and mixed metal
such as brass, bronze and polished chrome help add depth and dimension to your home.
Temperature control is another key element in comfort. Consider air purifiers, air conditioning,
fans, heating units, trans-seasonal textiles and blackout blinds.
Colour drenching. Next, colour drenching is a bold immersive design approach where walls,
furniture and decor are united in a single cohesive colour to create a cocooning effect.
While this trend gained popularity in 2024, it has evolved to incorporate materials such
as tile or wood, patterns and double drenching by pairing two complementary shades or materials.
The healing home. Homes continue to become sanctuaries for self-care,
with bathrooms leading the way as spa-like retreats.
Consider introducing artisanal accessories like luxury candles and quality bath products
paired with hotel-like towels and natural materials like cedar, porcelain and rattan.
A multi-sensory design approach is another way to support emotional well-being.
Look to surround yourself with items you love, use mirrors to maximise natural light,
incorporate functional fragrances to zoned spaces and add living energy through plants
to be a central focus in design, with an emphasis on quality over quantity.
Intentional choices such as low VOC paints and air purifying plants
and natural materials are an effective way to embrace eco-conscious living.
Investing in vintage and antique furniture, as well as pieces that can be up-cycled,
repaired or repurposed, adds timeless appeal while reducing waste.
These items are often crafted from durable materials, built to last,
are rich in character and contribute to a more sustainable home.
Biophilic design. An interest in biophilic design continues to rise as many of us seek
deeper connections with nature. Research shows that spending just 20 minutes with plants can
boost mood and reduce stress, making greenery an easy yet impactful addition to any home.
To strengthen this connection, prioritise views of nature, whether it's a garden,
indoor plant or balcony. Outdoor spaces are increasingly seen as extensions of our interiors.
Gardens, patios, balconies and other outdoor areas
are being reimagined for both relaxation and entertainment.
Fire pits, weather-resistant furniture, indoor-outdoor rugs, garden lighting,
water features and outdoor kitchens all contribute to enhancing the seamless indoor-outdoor feel.
At-home entertaining. Next, at-home entertaining is being redefined with an emphasis on
sophisticated details. There's a growing appreciation for upscale dinnerware,
statement cookware and beautiful table linens and decor that elevate everyday dining.
The home bar is also becoming a central feature for many, whether integrated into the home
this year is all about embracing individuality with curated and personalised pieces being favoured
over the neutral, minimalist aesthetic. Key pieces such as hand-woven textiles,
wabi-sabi ceramics, bespoke furniture, locally crafted artwork and decor and DIY creations
will allow you to infuse your home with character and authenticity.
This shift encourages blending antique, unique,
vintage and locally crafted decor alongside contemporary pieces to tell a story.
Rather than adhering strictly to a single design style,
look for ways to express your personality and values in your home.
Additionally, expect to see an increased use of rich, dark timbers,
deeper earth tones and integration of smart technologies.
Thank you so much for watching. Which of these trends resonates with you the most?
