So ladies and gentlemen, the consensus from my facebook folks (you can join them at www.facebook.com/everideorg) was to upload the Utah Backcountry Discovery Route footage raw. This works for me because there is so much of it... and it's been sitting there for so long... that editing the whole thing was a scary proposition.
My brother and I did a fantastic dual sport motorcycle adventure on the Moab section of the UTBDR on our trusty Kawasaki KLR 650 and Suzuki DR 650. Things went great until I started to have throttle issues. There was a huge storm, we got lost a few times, and ended up nearly dying from lack of gasoline, air in our tires, and especially water.
So what we have here is a cool little place to stop and rest.
We kind of got a little bit lost, but it worked out because...
Whoa, my pants are like around my ankles. I always seem to like sit on my motorcycle.
Anyway, as you can see by the odometer there, we're only about 42 miles from Moab.
Even less because we got lost and we had to backtrack.
So far we're not doing so awesome, but we are doing and we're having fun.
And we're getting back on the road. So anyway, in my family, I don't know if this is,
you know, a universal term, but in my family there's a term called dinkin.
And it's basically, dinkin means you're hanging around waiting for people all the time.
Well, no, no, no, no. People who are dinkin are continually making you wait.
So I'm trying my best not to dink, dink around.
Oh, I took a little bath in the river. Just a little like bird bath.
Actually, I just flopped over. But that was amazing.
Anyway, we've had kind of too many stops because the GPS is not good.
And I've already complained about that, so I'm not going to complain about that anymore.
But it's time to get rolling. We got about two more hours until we set up camp and just relax.
And then we're going to do something novel. We're going to get up early.
And we're going to, um, oh, what's this?
Manti-LaSalle National Forest.
Anyway, we're going to do something novel, get up early and ride when it's cool.
Instead of when it's boiling hot like today.
And we do have a bunch of water. We have some good water supplies.
But I do, it would make me feel better most definitely if along the trail we found more water.
To filter and whatnot. My guess is that we will.
Even though we're kind of going into, uh, well, I guess Moab is more the badlands,
deserty type of place. And where we're going now, this is pretty green, so there's probably
water that we can filter. Besides that, it's been raining, so with that filter,
I could even use it out of a puddle, even though it doesn't filter for taste very well.
Yeah, so even though the backcountry discovery route hasn't been very much backcountry so far,
and mostly just roads, I mean, I guess this road is in the backcountry, but
I was estimating that we'd have, whoa, that's a big turn.
I was estimating that we'd have a lot more dirt because, uh, you know, that's kind of what you
assume is going to happen when you're on a dual sport motorcycle.
But then again, um, we've only gone 44 miles and probably 10 of those was dirt out of Moab.
You know, I'm a little disappointed because it seems like
we drove all this way down to Moab, which was only like three hours,
but it was still miserable because it was freeway. Um, but we drive all this way to Moab
and then we didn't do the experts only section because it was south and we're out of time.
So, you know, that's kind of a bummer, but, uh, this, this has still been very cool going up this
way. Uh, I just, I, I really enjoy the off roady stuff and I like these twisty turns.
Um, um, basically anything that just kind of slows you down a little bit and makes you take
a corner a little, a little easier, you know, that's the kind of stuff I like anyway. So
hopefully the GPS will work and we don't be, you know, next time you see me, I'm not a
pile of bones in the desert because that is entirely possible.
Bum, bum, bum.
