I thought a double motovlog was in order for this episode. I love Jae's comments throughout... he doesn't have much to say, but what he says is AWESOME. It's interesting to look back and see how "bad" we were on the dirt. I look back on these videos and both Jae and I have gotten much better offroad. If we go back there, we'll make footage just DOMINATING that river!
So ladies and gentlemen, the consensus from my facebook folks (you can join them at www.facebook.com/everideorg) was to upload the Utah Backcountry Discovery Route footage raw. This works for me because there is so much of it... and it's been sitting there for so long... that editing the whole thing was a scary proposition.
My brother and I did a fantastic dual sport motorcycle adventure on the Moab section of the UTBDR on our trusty Kawasaki KLR 650 and Suzuki DR 650. Things went great until I started to have throttle issues. There was a huge storm, we got lost a few times, and ended up nearly dying from lack of gasoline, air in our tires, and especially water.
Alright, I have to say it's kind of sad to be leaving the campsite.
Aw, especially with a cowbell.

Anyway, that was an awesome campsite.
And there were a total of two people that passed us, and both of them were today.
Nobody came past us at night.
It was completely chill, aside from the massive thunderstorm.
But the cool thing is, the thunderstorm came and went.
And it was generally just a great experience.
The stars came out.
We lit the fire back up.
We relaxed and just sat by the fire.
We're brothers.
It was amazing.
It's so cool because, you know, he lives in Texas,
and we don't see each other maybe once a year, twice if we're really lucky.
And so it's really nice to be able to have that time to just catch up.
It's very cool.
Oh, and my Opteka charger right here.
It charged my camera until my camera said it was charged,
but then this morning I pulled my camera out and it wasn't charged.
It wasn't fully charged.
It was three of four bars.
And it completely charged the GoPro because the GoPro's light went off.
So we started to charge Jay's GoPro.
So thumbs up on the Opteka charger.
That thing is cool.

When really it's just a stream.

Oh, that's something I found out.
My tool tube.
It's actually a welding rod holder from Harbor Freight.
This is cool.
My tool tube is not waterproof.
It is about the last thing from...
So if you don't want your tools wet, I probably wouldn't use that Harbor Freight thing.
At least not down there.
Jay's got a tool tube on the back of his DR.
That's a tractor manual holder.
And it is really on there.
It's on there good and it's cool.
So I would recommend the tractor manual holder.
So here's something I was talking about on that hour that I missed.
On the BDR, it was interesting because we went out of Moab and it totally sucked coming out of Moab.
It wasn't that cool at all.
I'm like, oh no, the rest of the BDR is going to be like this.
You know, just really easy dirt roads that kind of turn to pavement once in a while.
Not a lot of pavement and I was really bummed about that.
It is full of a lot of really cool stuff so I'm glad we didn't give up on it or anything.
It was so hot and it was really frustrating.

Man, we're in an amazing place.

And there's this little low river that we're going through.
I just about crashed.

It's 12 noon and it's not super, super hot.
Whoa, look over there.
A bunch of water washed down last night from the stuff.
Man, you know what? If we were downstream, we might have gotten really wet.
Because my guess is that water level rose quite a bit down here.
Yeah, look at where it's muddy as opposed to where the water is running.

This is fun riding.

The only bad thing is the dust.

I gotta say we're on section, I think, 5.
Maybe getting close to 6 now.
Oh, by the way, I found out what that rattle in my chain was.
That was a rock that had been launched up into the sprocket.
