The Mice and the Elephants
The Mice and the Elephants
Long ago in India, a deserted village became home to a community of mice. They built tunnels, held parties, and lived happily for many years.
One day, a huge herd of elephants stamped through the village on their way to a lake, crushing the mice’s tunnels. The mice feared for their homes and went to speak with the Elephant King.
“O King, please take another path home, or our community will be destroyed,” they pleaded. The Elephant King, feeling sorry, agreed to avoid the village.
But nearby hunters had set a trap in the lake. When the elephants jumped in, they were caught. Only one elephant who hadn’t jumped remained free. The Elephant King sent her to fetch the mice.
The mice raced to the trapped herd and nibbled through the ropes, setting the elephants free. Grateful, the Elephant King led his herd safely home, and the mice continued to live happily for many years.
Moral: Even the smallest creatures can help the largest ones, and kindness is always rewarded.
