And now to the video.
Zum Video.
Guten Tag, wer ist dran?
Das Finanzamt.
Jaja, ich weiß, ich bin etwas spät dran.
Was? Eine Frist?
Daran kann ich mich nicht erinnern.
Strafe zahlen?
Vergessen Sie es.
Steuern, steuern, steuern.
Ich bin drauf und dran, dieses Land zu verlassen.
Hallo alle zusammen.
Heute schauen wir uns die Bedeutungen von dran oder daran an.
Today we will have a look at the meanings of dran and daran.
Often they can be used similarly as you will see,
but sometimes you can also use only one or the other, alright?
If you want this transcript of this video,
Bedeutungen von dran, meanings of dran,
then check out the link in the description.
I will put the link to the PDF, alright?
So, let's have a look.
First, Erklärung, explanation.
In some cases dran is short for the form of daran.
The da compound of an, ie an plus that.
So normally we would say, for example,
Here we have an die Frist.
This is what this means.
I can't remember the deadline.
An die Frist can be replaced with dran or daran.
You can say both.
It's better German to say daran.
I also made a video of these da compounds.
We can link it underneath or you can just google it in YouTube.
There we have these words, all these little words.
Here we have another example.
What does this mean?
Hang them on the wall.
Again, it's a replacement for an die Wand.
It means I take part in the course.
Belongs together to take part in something.
I take part in it.
Then we have the second meaning.
There are some expressions where the noun is replaced,
but we only use dran and not daran.
For example, here.
Who's on the phone?
It's short for
But we will just say,
This is another example.
Are you still there?
Are you still on the phone?
So same thing.
And why is it dran here?
Because it's an, no?
Because normally the full version of this is
So it's replacing
And here it's the same.
It's like it's your turn when you're playing a game.
And then you want to tell the other player it's your turn.
You would say
Another way to say this is
Actually means row.
So if you think in rows, now the next row.
The next person in the row, basically.
So again, short for
There is no salt in the soup.
So it's again replacing
I hope this makes sense.
If not, with these things, you can also check out my video,
especially for the first part about the da compound.
Then, however, there are also cases in which
dran cannot be replaced by daran as a substitute for a noun.
It occurs in fixed sentences such as
These are basically often expressions.
So for example,
I'm running late.
This means you're early.
As we learned in my last video, chose surprise.
So it's like, oh, wow, but you're early.
I didn't expect that.
It's a very common expression in German.
It means like I am about to leave this country.
So these are the meanings of dran.
