Pizza Rolls that are as Fast and Easy as They are Delicious

Hi, I'm Sam from Sugar Spun Run and today we will make pizza rolls.
Today's recipe is an excellent drink or appetizer,
or you can even serve it with a good salad for dinner.
They are fun, my children love them.
So let's get started.
Now, for the base, the bread or the dough of the pizza rolls,
we are going to use the pizza dough recipe number 1 on the internet, which is mine.
Thank you very much, I mean it.
If you search for pizza dough on Google, you will find mine.
I hope it continues to be like this when this comes out.
Anyway, this pizza dough is prepared very quickly.
It is not necessary to knead a lot.
So, take a medium or large bowl.
And we are going to add a cup of flour to the bowl.
And we are also going to add a package of instant yeast.
They are a quarter of an ounce.
Instant yeast makes everything prepare very quickly.
We will also add a teaspoon and a half of sugar.
A little sugar does not sweeten the dough.
Three quarters of a teaspoon of salt.
It is normal table salt, nothing special.
And my recipe also offers the option of adding a little extra flavor to the dough.
We are going to add a quarter teaspoon of garlic powder
and a quarter teaspoon of dried basil to the recipe.
We are going to mix these dry ingredients.
Next, I put three quarters of a cup of warm water.
I'm going to run to the sink and get it.
The important thing about water is that it is neither too cold nor too hot.
It has to be about 100 degrees F.
So I'm going to get it.
Okay, three quarters of a cup.
We are going to add it directly.
And we are going to use a wooden spoon to stir everything.
Oh, and before mixing these ingredients, I'm going to add a little oil.
We need two tablespoons of olive oil.
I almost forgot.
Very good.
Now, we can mix everything.
And the dough is not going to have much dough look at this point.
It will be very wet.
It is expected.
Very good.
Well, at first, I told you to put a cup of flour in your bowl to mix.
You can use common flour or bread flour.
Bread flour will give you a texture a little more similar to that of pizza dough.
Well, that would be my recommendation.
But common flour works just as well.
Well, there is already a cup here.
I have another measuring cup.
So, in total for this recipe, you will need two to two and a half cups of flour.
Pizza dough, or whenever we make a yeast recipe,
sometimes you will need a little less or a little more than the recipe asks for.
So what I'm going to do is gradually add this flour
until I get a dough with the texture and consistency I'm looking for.
Of course, I'm going to show you how this looks so you can do the same at home.
So, what I'm looking for here is a dough that sticks to itself
and comes off the walls of the bowl while I'm mixing.
You will not want to add too much flour at once or the dough will seem too dry
when it is not really as dry as it should be.
The dough simply has not been able to absorb the flour correctly.
Very good.
Look, this is still too sticky.
I'm going to add the rest of my flour.
Bringing us to two cups of flour here.
Very good.
So, my dough is sticking to itself.
It looks a little dry, but I'm going to mix it a little more.
And you can also use your hand if you want.
It is not necessary.
This recipe does not require kneading much,
but sometimes it is easier to use your hand than to use the wooden spoon.
So, we have a dough.
It sticks to itself.
It is not too sticky.
And I'm just stirring to mix it.
This is not kneading.
A little more flour.
Okay.
It is still slightly sticky.
It sticks to itself.
There is no dry flour apart from that little one that I just put there.
We are ready to let this dough rise.
So I like to do this in a separate container.
I'm going to a container to mix.
It must continue to be medium size, from medium to large,
because the dough is going to rise a little.
Sprinkle with a little olive oil or, in my case,
it is just a mixture of olive oil and avocado.
Any cooking oil will work well here.
And we are going to pour this into our container.
Give it a quick turn to cover everything with a little oil.
Take your plastic wrap, my nemesis,
and we are going to let it rise until it doubles in size.
Normally, this takes about 30 minutes.
Right now, while I'm recording this, it's winter.
It's cold in my kitchen.
It will probably take a little longer.
Help if you can put it in a warm place and without air currents.
My microwave sometimes heats up well,
so I'm going to put it there.
Very good.
Once the dough has risen, we are going to uncover it.
And this took me more than 30 minutes.
It's pretty cold in my kitchen.
I'm going to lightly flour a clean surface.
I take out the pizza dough.
Very good.
I'm going to flatten it slightly.
And I'm going to knead it a little.
Barely.
This can't even be called kneading.
I just want to fold it over itself a couple of times
to make it soft and cohesive.
Make sure it's very fluffy.
Flour the dough lightly.
And we are going to stretch it to form a 15 by 9-inch rectangle.
I'm very bad at stretching uniform and round pizza doughs.
Well, get ready because I'm just as bad at stretching pretty and neat rectangles.
Okay, neither my best nor my worst job.
We have a rectangle.
I'm going to brush it lightly with a little olive oil.
Once it's well brushed, we're going to add tomato sauce.
Indicating the amount of tomato sauce, cheese and pepperoni you are going to use is a bit complicated
because that will vary depending on the exact brand of sauce
and the amount of sauce you like.
But what you want is a thin layer of sauce for pizza or marinara sauce.
I usually need only a quarter cup of sauce.
You don't want to put too much or the rolls may soak and unravel.
And I have a homemade pizza sauce recipe that I use in my homemade pizza dough
and in my mother dough pizza dough.
Well, if you want to make it completely from scratch,
you can do it like this or you can buy it in the store.
Now, when I spread this,
I'll leave about a quarter inch of perimeter around the dough.
That will help it join well and prevent it from unraveling.
Look, there's not a lot of sauce, but a good amount.
The next thing is the cheese.
We're going to use mozzarella cheese.
It's 6 ounces or a cup and a half of grated mozzarella.
I grated this cheese myself.
Well, I grated it at home, which is what I prefer when we work with cheese
I like to distribute it evenly and then press it gently on the crust or dough.
And then, if you want to add pepperonis, you can add them here too.
You can add the big or small ones.
Today I only have minis at hand, so that's what I'm going to use.
You can add other ingredients for the pizza here if you prefer.
If you wanted to put olives, I would never do it,
but if you wanted one or two, you could add them here too.
You don't want to add too many,
but you can add some complements or mixtures.
Okay, now we're going to roll this up.
You have to roll it up tight.
That way it won't unravel when you cook it.
I do it from side to side.
A tight roll.
A little messy there.
Don't let anyone look at that.
I'm going to join the edges.
Pretend nothing happened.
Okay, sometimes, if I'm impatient,
I go ahead and start cutting it and baking it right away.
But to get better results, it's good to let it cool down a bit.
It makes cutting it a lot easier.
So what I'm going to do is put it on my baking tray.
I pass it carefully.
And I'm going to put it in the fridge.
While it's in the fridge, I'm going to preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
This will rest for about 15 minutes.
I don't cover it.
If I wanted to keep it longer, I would cover it.
But for 15 minutes, uncovered in the fridge while the oven preheats.
And then, in 15 minutes, I'll take it out.
We'll cut it into slices and bake it.
Okay, let's go back.
15 minutes later.
Actually, this is a little closer to 30,
just because my kids needed lunch right now.
Therefore, it can rest for more than 15 minutes.
My oven is preheated to 400 degrees F.
So I'm going to go ahead and cut this.
Use a saw blade and then you can cut it,
which helps to keep the shape.
And we're going to cut it into slices of about an inch.
I prefer to start in the middle of the trunk,
because when I get to the ends,
I cut the excess because, anyway,
they don't usually look very pretty.
So I always start in the middle.
But you can, you can start at one end.
You can cut the bottom here or leave it as you prefer.
I'm going to cut it so it looks prettier,
but that would be a little more wasteful.
We're going to put them on the tray to bake,
with the cut side up.
Now, give them a little space while they bake.
It's okay if after baking they touch a little,
but it helps to bake evenly
if they have a little space.
Before putting them in the oven,
I like to brush them with a little salted butter,
which adds flavor.
You just have to give them a little touch.
You can also use olive oil,
which doesn't have the same flavor,
but it gives it a nice touch.
Don't use too much.
They won't brown too much in the oven,
but this can help them brown a little.
They stay pretty pale,
which is normal and you don't have to worry.
Therefore, it is not necessary
that they rise or sweat or anything like that.
As soon as you have brushed them,
we can take them directly to the oven.
It should be at 400 degrees F.
We will bake them in the central grid.
They usually need 15 to 15 minutes in the oven.
Obviously, they will still be hot
when you take them out of the oven,
but while they are warm,
something I like to do is
a little parmesan cheese
and grate it on the pizza rolls.
Optional, but add a nice touch.
And a little fresh basil.
Today I'm going to use dried basil.
Also add a nice touch.
Today I don't have fresh basil.
You could even use oregano,
but I think it's pretty well documented
that I'm not a big fan of oregano.
However, I have advanced a lot.
Now, if you tighten the seams a little more,
you will get some more tight rolls
than the ones I made.
You can see that this one is a little tighter
than the rest.
Anyway, they will all be delicious
and I think you will really love them.
It's that easy to make them.
If you try it at home,
tell me what you think.
I really love to know about you.
And if you don't use pizza dough
number one on Google for your pizzas,
your homemade pizzas,
maybe you want to start doing it.
Thank you very much for watching
and see you next time.
It's still a little hot.
That was a good pizza roll.
