Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Lewis.
Today on January 7th marks a big occasion as Sir Lewis Hamilton celebrates his 40th birthday.
A true veteran of Formula 1, Lewis enters his remarkable 19th season in the sport with 356 race starts,
the second most in history, yet continues to compete at the sharp end of the grid
and challenge himself in new environments and against hungry talented teammates.
And even as he transitions into the next chapter of his career,
the notion that Lewis Hamilton is now 40 years old feels surreal for those of us who have followed his journey from the very beginning.
As a four-year-old back when Lewis first debuted in F1, I vaguely recall the young Hamilton debuting in 2007,
a fresh-faced talent in his early twenties, exuding confidence with his short haircut,
clean line-ups and a wardrobe of leather jackets and jeans.
And fast forward nearly two decades later, and that once raw prodigy has transformed into a global icon.
Now a more seasoned and expressive individual, his enhanced fashion choices and more confident charisma
are as much a hallmark of his personality as his blistering pace on the track,
and his longevity in the sport and continued high levels of performance are nothing short of extraordinary,
a testament to his dedication, skill and relentless drive, even in the face of adversity.
Historically, only a select few drivers have won championships beyond the age of 40.
With Lewis now embarking on an exciting new chapter as a Ferrari driver for the upcoming 2025 season,
it's clear that his ambitions remain undimmed,
and it's not hard to imagine him setting his sights on this elite club
while relentlessly pursuing the eighth championship that was cruelly taken from him.
A title win with Ferrari, the most iconic team in motorsport,
would not only be a fitting continuation of his illustrious career,
but would also add a storybook chapter to his legacy as the undisputed greatest.
For many, including myself, Lewis Hamilton's entry into Formula One in 2007
wasn't just the dawn of a new era in motorsport.
It was also personal to a certain degree.
Growing up as a young black fan of F1,
I saw in him someone who reflected my background and experiences
that had previously never even touched the sport before.
Born in Britain, but having Caribbean ancestry through Grenada,
like myself, but with me having Jamaican ancestry,
and also coming from humble economic beginnings,
Hamilton's journey resonated on a level far beyond the racetrack.
He didn't just defy the odds.
He shattered them, blazing a trail for others while navigating adversity
and unwarranted criticism with grace and resilience.
Lewis Hamilton is much more than a racing driver.
He's an inspiration, a beacon for anyone who has ever dared to dream big despite the odds.
His legacy transcends the sport,
touching millions around the world who see in him
a role model of perseverance, excellence and authenticity.
And while I've never idolised or will never idolise anyone,
Hamilton's inspiration on me cannot be overstated.
As we celebrate his 40th birthday, we reflect on the countless records he's set,
the unforgettable moments he's given us,
and the indelible mark he's left on Formula One.
Here's to hoping that his time at Ferrari
brings him the success his talent and dedication deserve.
Happy birthday, Sir Lewis Hamilton.
The greatest to ever do it.
Turning our attention to Lewis' new team in Ferrari,
all eyes are on the team as they prepare to unveil their new car and livery.
As we know, the 75th F1 World Championship launch event,
scheduled for February 18th,
will be hosted at the O2 Arena in London from 8pm to 10pm.
And this showcase will provide fans with their first look at the team's updated liveries,
with Ferrari expected to command significant attention.
Drivers and team representatives will take the stage during the event,
but in adherence to strict FIA regulations,
no team is allowed to reveal their designs before this official unveiling.
Ferrari has confirmed that its much-anticipated 2025 Challenger,
known internally as the 677,
will make its debut the following day, February 19th,
in a private shakedown at their home circuit in Fiorano.
And while the London event will focus primarily on aesthetics and team branding,
the Fiorano test will offer a glimpse into the performance potential of the car
as Ferrari ramps up its pre-season preparations.
As a newly signed Ferrari driver,
Lewis Hamilton is set to arrive in Maranello in the coming days,
joining Charles Leclerc to begin final preparations for the season.
This marks a new chapter in Hamilton's illustrious career,
and his presence at Ferrari has already generated enormous excitement.
Both drivers are expected to complete seat fittings
and engage in simulation work between January 10th to the 12th,
a critical step in ensuring that the 677
is tailored to their individual driving styles,
and with production and assembly now in full swing,
the car is expected to transition seamlessly
from the factory to its first on-track sessions.
This season, Ferrari's designers have benefited from regulatory adjustments
that have eased certain weight-saving constraints.
The minimum car weight has been marginally increased
from 798 kg to 800 kg,
and an additional 5 kg allowance has been granted
for a mandatory cooling system in high-temperature races.
These changes have reduced the need for extensive,
visible carbon elements on liveries,
a design trend that dominated recent years,
and it seems as if Ferrari is widely expected
to take full advantage of this opportunity,
delivering a bold and visually striking aesthetic.
Well-respected F1 journalist Giuliano Duchessa
has suggested that Ferrari's 2025 livery
will feature a more intense shade of red,
marking a departure from the tones used in the past two seasons,
while the new colour will not replicate the deep,
wine-like Rosso Mugello shade
seen on the SF1000 during Ferrari's 1000th Grand Prix celebration.
It will represent a fresh and dynamic approach from Ferrari's design team,
and the combination of an updated paint job,
innovative livery elements and updated team uniforms
will undoubtedly make a strong visual statement during the London event.
Ferrari's preparations have also progressed significantly
on the technical front.
Reports from last week by Italian media
confirm that the 677 successfully passed
the FIA's mandatory crash test just before Christmas,
clearing a crucial regulatory hurdle.
The chassis underwent rigorous static testing in Maranello
and dynamic assessments at the CSI facility in Bolate,
receiving FIA approval for on-track use,
and this milestone ensures that Ferrari remains on schedule
for the car's first public appearance at Fiorano on February 19th.
The 2025 season is shaping up to be a defining year for Ferrari.
With Lewis Hamilton, an eight-time world champion,
joining forces with Charles Leclerc,
the Scuderia has assembled the most formidable driver line-up on the grid,
and the team aims to mount a serious challenge
for both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships,
building on the potential demonstrated in recent years.
Ferrari's fans, known for their unwavering passion,
are eagerly awaiting the debut of the 677,
a car that symbolises the team's ambition and determination
to return to the pinnacle of Formula One.
As the countdown to February 18th continues,
Ferrari's ability to balance tradition, innovation and competitive performance
will be under the spotlight.
The 2025 campaign holds immense promise,
not just for Ferrari but also for Lewis Hamilton,
whose arrival at Maranello has reignited hopes
of a championship-winning season.
All signs point to an electrifying year ahead,
as the Scuderia looks to reclaim its place as the benchmark in Formula One.
