It's a special kind of night dive which is conducted over very deep waters,
far away from reefs to experience the biggest vertical migration in the animal kingdom
that takes place every night in every ocean all over the world.
During this dive we are on the search for marine life in their lava stage.
Hiding in deep during the day, they are lured to the shallower waters by the moonlight at night.
Here around Siladen and the Bunaken Marine Park, we are luckily surrounded by very deep waters
ranging from 800 to 3 000 meters depth and influenced by the indonesian through flow.
Our setup is simple and effective. We simulate a strong moonlight with over 100 000 lumens of
lights distributed along a 15 meter long down line. This attracts different species depending
on the lunar phase. The darker phases between the two half moons have proven to be ideal
but don't be fooled, then every night can be a surprise.
During the dive we want to be able to cover all areas.
Different depths but especially different light zones.
So we want to be unfettered and drift motionless with the current.
