We are about under 17 hours away from ringing in 2025 here in Minnesota.
Elsewhere though in the world we just saw, New Year has already arrived.
Hannah Fled takes us on a bit of a tour here this morning.
New Year's parties across the globe.
Hi Hannah, good morning.
Good morning.
It's almost like we're time traveling together this morning.
As you saw there, Australia is one of the first countries to celebrate the New Year
and they do it up big there.
The party is underway.
A live look again here from Sydney Harbor.
You saw there it hit midnight just a few minutes ago.
The fireworks still going strong right now.
Because of its location close to the international date line,
Australia is a very popular New Year's Eve destination.
Yeah, they are bringing it in big time in Sydney right now.
This year the city's celebration features a light display recognizing New Zealand's
indigenous tribes.
It's still two hours until midnight in Seoul, South Korea, which you see live here.
However, there will be no big New Year's celebrations there this year.
That's because the country is still observing a period of national mourning
following Sunday's deadly plane crash.
Most New Year's parties and all firework displays are canceled across South Korea.
Tokyo is also getting ready for the New Year in about two hours.
This was the capital skyline earlier in the evening.
Japan celebrates its Lunar New Year on January 1st,
unlike other Asian countries like South Korea and China who would celebrate on the 29th.
2025 is the year of the snakes,
which is considered a rebirth year because of a reptile shedding its skin.
And here in the U.S., of course, the biggest celebration will be in New York City.
This is a live look at the ball in Times Square this morning.
This tradition dates all the way back to 1907.
Musical performances in Times Square this year will include TLC,
the Jonas Brothers, and Rita Ora.
Finally, another big New Year's Eve destination is Rio de Janeiro.
This is a live look at the Copacabana Beach,
where about two million people will gather later tonight at midnight.
The crowd will jump into the ocean for good luck.
Fun traditions around the world.
