Must-See German Old Town

Welcome to Seeligenstadt. We are now here in a city near Frankfurt, close to Frankfurt, in the vicinity of Frankfurt. And here we have a typical German old town, a very typical German old town, the old city. And here you see the town hall. What is that in English? Do you know what that is in English? Das Rathaus is the town hall. Don't confuse it with die Ratte, which is the rat. Here we only have Rat, which means, you know, advice, the advice. Like I give you an advice, in German you would say, Ich gebe dir einen Rat. Okay? Hier haben wir die Altstadt und ihr seht, hier sind überall ganz typische Pflastersteine, heißt das. Die Pflastersteine. Das ist sehr typisch für deutsche Altstädte. Und hier sind wir jetzt auf dem Marktplatz. That's basically the center of the city. Das Zentrum der Stadt, der Marktplatz. Und hier sind ganz viele kleine Geschäfte und Cafés und da seht ihr zum Beispiel eine Apotheke. Die Apotheke. Was ist das? It's the pharmacy. Die Apotheke. Und hier seht ihr ganz typische Häuser. Wie heißen diese Häuser? Wisst ihr das? Wir schauen uns mal eins von der Nähe aus an. We will have a look at one of these houses from close by and I explain you what they are called and why they are so typical. Los geht's! Wie heißen diese Häuser? What are these houses called? This type of houses. Das ist ein Fachwerkhaus. Fachwerkhaus. Und das Besondere ist, dass der Skelettbau aus Holz ist. The special thing about these is that the skeleton is made out of wood, which you see there. Und diese Häuser sind ganz, ganz alt. Die wurden teilweise im Mittelalter gebaut. They were built in the medieval times. Also, die sind mehrere hundert Jahre alt. Und deswegen stehen sie unter Denkmalschutz. Denkmalschutz. Ganz wichtig. Und sie sind auch Teil des UNESCOs Weltkulturerbes. So, they are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, ganz besondere, typische deutsche Häuser. Und manche haben auch kleine Verzierungen. Und da hinten seht ihr auch Fensterläden. Der Fensterladen ist like the shutter in English. Der Fensterladen. Also, jetzt habt ihr eine typische deutsche Altstadt kennengelernt.
