Falun Dafa, also know as Falun Gong, is an ancient energy practice from China that millions around the world have made a part of their lives. Falun Dafa was first introduced to the public in 1992 by Master Li Hongzhi. By 1999 the practice had attracted tens of millions of followers in China. That's when Jiang Zemin, the then head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) perceived Falun Gong as an ideological threat and order the practice eradicated. Countless numbers of Falun Dafa practitioners have lost their lives due to the persecution, which continues to the present.
Concurrent with the brutal persecution, the CCP used its entire state run media apparatus to broadcast a massive disinformation campaign against Falun Gong. This was to cover up its crimes against this peaceful spiritual group, and to deceive the Chinese people and make them agree with the persecution and help the CCP in its mistreatment and discrimination of Falun Gong practitioners.
At the same time, the CCP, through its Embassies and foreign diplomats, began to spread its anti-Falun Gong propaganda to government officials at all levels as well as media outlets, universities around the world.
The deceitful propaganda was often accompanied by promises of economic or financial benefits that were hard for many of these Western leaders to resist. But over the years, many did stand up to reject the CCP and support Falun Gong in speeches and proclamations.
The persecution of Falun Gong in China is now in its 25th year and still very severe under the present CCP leader Xi Jinping, with many cases of unlawful imprisonment, torture, and deaths from torture and abuse in detention being reported every year. The CCP is also making even bigger efforts at bringing the persecution abroad through what is known as “transnational repression,” using its network of spies to infiltrate foreign governments and social media influencers to shape public opinion and more.
