A long time ago, a mother and her daughter lived together in a small house, relying on each other. One day, the mother fell seriously ill. She called her daughter and asked her to find a doctor. The little girl obeyed, hurrying out, her heart heavy with worry.

On her way, she unexpectedly met an old man with white hair and a long beard. Seeing her distress, he asked what had happened.

After hearing her story, the old man revealed that he was a doctor and offered to accompany her to examine her mother. Overjoyed, the girl led him home. He carefully examined the mother and gave the girl instructions to cure her illness.

He told her, “Go to the banyan tree at the edge of the forest and pick a white flower. Bring it back to me.”

When she reached the tree, she found a beautiful white flower. Suddenly, she heard the old man’s voice echoing in her ears: “The number of petals on this flower shows how many days your mother has to live.”

The girl thought for a moment and then gently tore each petal into countless thin strips. Each strip became a new petal, long and smooth, so the flower now had an innumerable number of petals.

She rushed home with the flower. The old man smiled warmly and said, “Your mother is cured. This is a reward for your respect, love, and obedience.”

From that day on, the white daisy became a symbol of children’s devotion to their parents.
