It looks as if this eSim is basically a cloud or grid service of a Sim Card. However you cannot get a phone number off of it. This service still hasn't developed that far yet. Also would you really need it? That is the question.
Here's the article from Gamintraveler that we used.
https://www.gamintraveler.com/2024/12/15/comparison-sim-card-vs-esim/
Recording has started. Well now, always remember Super Dave Bistula, the tall, white,
gothic vampire alien, coming to you from the usual haunt of Tim Hortons,
Coteneige Road, and Linton, where you have the Sajour de Panneur, Seven Days Corner Store,
beside us. Crossing Linton is McDonald's. Crossing Coteneige is CDL Laboratory,
Elma Medical, Sushi Plus, Lunatree New Look, and TD Canada Trust, at the corner of De La Pelle 3.
Crossing that is Dollarama. Perpendicular to us is Videotron, with the two restaurants,
Here in the area of Coteneige, Super Dave Bistula of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
So it seems to me that there's a subject, there's a new technology out there,
for phones, and maybe for tablets as well. It's called an eSIM. Now this article from
Gammin Traveler, discusses the differences between the actual SIM card and an eSIM, or
a virtual SIM. But you need to have a phone, you need to have the new technology of,
whoops, the new technology of phones to have this eSIM.
But it does not, the eSIM, unlike the SIM card, does not give you a phone number
automatically. You have to give it some information, somehow on the internet for it.
I don't know if it's on a cloud, or something. There's some things that might be missing from
this article. Because if it's on a cloud, it could be, it could very well be hacked.
But then again, sometimes a SIM card could be hacked too, if you are not careful.
Anyways, my host David is going to read from Gammin Traveler, and he's going to give his
opinions, as usual. This is basically a technology subject, or tech subject.
David? Yeah, I don't know. For me, I don't think I need an eSIM right now. It's not important to me.
And in fact, this article says that you may not really need it, unless it's a requirement
that every phone has to have this eSIM, which I'm very skeptical about.
Anyways, I have this phone that I use, and what I'm using right now, the medium,
the media that I'm using, is your basic tablet from Samsung Galaxy,
has a SIM card. I'm not dependent on eSIMs. I don't think I'd want to be, right now,
dependent on eSIMs, unless there's no more SIM cards being made. But I'd rather still use the
SIM card, something tangible, something physical. For me, it looks like it's on a cloud.
And if you're not careful, this cloud business could get you in trouble. And besides that,
anyways, as Super Dave Bistula said, and as you'll see in the article,
this eSIM doesn't even provide you with a phone number, not yet. You have to sign into something,
and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada. I have my number, and I'm happy with
it. I don't want to change my number for some sort of eSIM weirdo, weird shit. Anyways, that's all.
So, I'm going to reduce myself to a little blip, and I'm going to read from Gabmin Traveler,
and we'll see what this whole thing is about. So here goes nothing.
So, come on. Menu, camera, hi there. One could even call this a tech exclusive. So,
SIM card. Okay, fuck you with that advertisement. SIM card versus eSIM. Which is better for data
during your trip? I don't take trips, and I'd rather do the roaming profile,
a roaming chart, whatever it is. So, I'll probably just stick with the SIM card. Thank you very much.
Unless they put an eSIM into the SIM card, I really don't want to have anything to do with it.
By Ruben Arribas, December 15th, 2024. Fun comment. Comparisons, eSIM buying cards,
SIM cards. Here's a picture of a SIM card. SIM card versus eSIM, differences and advantages.
Okay, SIM card versus eSIM. With the growth and changes technology brings to our lives,
physical SIM cards are not immune to these technological changes. And while some SIM
cards have been the standard, 2023 is the beginning of the eSIMs and will be the standard of the
future. I don't know about that. It could be the way of the electric car, but right now nobody
wants the electrical car. In fact, there are people who are revolting against the electrical
car. So, I don't know about this eSIM thing. And this is the first time I've ever heard of this
eSIM. If you've heard about eSIMs, which I never did, or are trying to learn more about them,
read more here and find out about what eSIMs are. SIM cards versus eSIM. What are the differences?
Whether one is better than the other? And more information about these two. Table of contents,
best eSIM for Europe travel, South America SIM cards, Maya versus Arelo,
HoloFly versus Yubigil, best global eSIM providers, eSIM worldwide data providers. Okay,
whatever. Book your travel insurance. Two of your favorite travel insurance,
Steve for your future. Okay, fuck that.
Let's look at how eSIM started and how they can change the way we connect with people
and connect with the internet. And if there's a possibility for eSIMs
to completely replace physical SIM cards in the future. Not the way it is now.
They have to have the phone number feature. It's going to be all confusing. It's not worth it.
What is an eSIM and how did eSIMs begin? SIM card versus eSIM. Okay,
the easiest way to understand an eSIM, understand eSIMs, is that they are virtual SIM cards
or an embedded SIM. Hence the name. That allows a smart device to connect to data,
internet signal without the use of a physical SIM card. Yeah, but that kind of defeats the
purpose unless you have the information on that eSIM on the cloud, which you better be careful
to secure it because it could be, if it's hacked, you're fucked. That's the problem.
You're fucked right in the ass. The first eSIM started in 2016 and a lot of devices since have
started to use the eSIM capability and it's added the feature to their devices. Are you sure about
this? Does that include this phone over here? This flipper phone? Beat me up Scotty, there's no
intelligent life out here. This kind? Which I bought recently anyways.
But anyways, let's read on. In 2016, the eSIM was first used in a consumer device with Samsung's,
okay, I got a Samsung Galaxy tablet, which I'm using right now recording this video.
Samsung Gear S2 is a classic smartwatch. Oh, it's a smartwatch, wear it as a watch. 3G, 3 gigs
or gigahertz. Apple, one of the world's most popular tech companies, first introduced eSIM
in 2017 with their Apple Watch Series 3. Now, I'm going to tell you, I'm not buying any Apple.
It's too expensive for its own fucking good. Although, mind you, it does work well, but I
find it's too fucking expensive and I find it so stupid that these fucking idiots park, they camp
outside for a new iPhone every fucking time. What are you going to do with that new iPhone?
Seriously. Yeah, there's a couple that has a SIM card. SIM card versus eSIM differences.
The biggest difference between SIM cards versus eSIMs is that with an eSIM,
you are technically not inserting an additional SIM card into your mobile device,
okay? That means eSIMs do not provide you with a mobile phone number that can be used to contact
you, call you and text you. So, what's the point? eSIMs are virtual cards and most new devices
in the last couple of years have the capability slash feature added to their device,
which I don't think I'm going to use. I'll just use the physical one. Thank you very much.
It seems to me that this is just a cloud that you connect to.
If you have an eSIM feature available on your device, you can use this
physical SIM card while also using the eSIM feature. Okay, this is popular for most of the
mobile phone devices that run the eSIM feature. Okay, a complete list of eSIM support devices,
SIM card versus eSIM. Here's a complete list of devices, mobile phones, smartwatches and
wearables and ultrabooks and tablets that support eSIM capability right now.
Yeah, but would that make that more expensive? Because if it does,
fuck off. That's the problem. iPhones with eSIMs, okay? iPhone XR, iPhone XS,
iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and okay, 12, 13, Pro and Max, and SE3, blah, blah,
blah, yada, yada, yada. Samsung with eSIM, okay? Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, S20 Ultra, S21,
S21 Plus 5G, S21 Ultra 5G, what the fuck? S22, S22 Ultra, Note, Galaxy Note 20, okay,
4, 4, 3, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay, and there's a nice older
Cougar babe over there. Okay, whatever. Okay, Google Pixel eSIM phones. Have a Google Pixel
phone? Check this guide on how to activate eSIM. Below are the Google Pixel phones that support
eSIM. Google Pixel 2, Pixel, okay, 2XL, Google Pixel 3, Pixel, okay, and yada, yada, yada,
whatever. Other Android handsets that support the eSIM functionality. Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro,
Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Oppo, Oppo Find X Pro, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, yeah,
okay, Motorola RAZR 2019, RAZR 5G, New Mobile, Gemini, okay, fuck you.
Tablets that support eSIM capability, SIM card versus eSIM, Apple iPad Pro 12.1, 2021,
and the iPad Pro 2020, right, 2018, oh, it goes to 2020, so it's going backwards.
iPad Air 2, Air, okay, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, whatever. Planet Computers, Gemini PDA,
whatever. There are also Ultrabooks that have eSIM functionality in them,
so check out the following Ultrabooks and laptops. Okay, whatever, I'm not interested.
Just tell me what the fuck the difference is. Let's get to the meat of the matter. Microsoft
Surface Pro, okay, whatever, Microsoft, Acer Swift 3, this is okay, Lenovo, Yoga,
Smartwatches and wearables, SIM card versus eSIM, Apple, Apple Watch, Series 7,
Series 3, and Samsung Galaxy Watch, okay, these are all watches, I'm not interested.
Huawei Watch, okay, whatever, fuck her off. Oppo Watch 2, Oppo Watch,
my boy, TicWatch Go, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and my watch. Okay, ZTE, I had a ZTE once,
it wasn't this, it wasn't a watch. Who am I, a fossil living now, okay, whatever.
I'm going to leave the link in the description below, so you can check out.
If you're interested in any of these, I'm not that interested, I'm just telling you what,
I'm just looking at the difference between the SIM card and the eSIM. Biggest issue of eSIM right
now, eSIM Pros, at the moment, the biggest market that uses eSIMs are people that would love to
travel or travel long for pleasure or business, and wanted an alternative to their local SIM card
to avoid hefty local SIM card roaming charges. Okay, maybe it's for them, it's not for me,
I don't travel. Maybe one time I might travel, but I'm not going to take long,
I'll just put it on roaming. For example, if you are from the US and you travel to Europe
for three weeks, instead of turning on or roaming for your US SIM card, you can just get a data
plan for your eSIM and get a much more affordable way of connecting to the internet while you're
traveling. This is the biggest advantage of having an eSIM. Okay, whatever. Another advantage of
having an eSIM is that you'll still be able to use your main phone number for messaging,
like WhatsApp, Viber, and LINE, and others, without the need to insert a new SIM card
for each country you are visiting. Oh, okay, I understand. This will help avoid confusion,
losing your contacts by mistake, or losing SIM cards in the process. Okay, whatever.
Disadvantages of an eSIM. eSIM cons. eSIM versus SIM cons. SIM card. Frankly, we don't see any
disadvantages to the eSIM capability at the moment. Yeah, except you can't automatically
get a phone number. As you said before, hello. The only con that we see is that you want to
use an eSIM and you have a device that is not currently supporting eSIM. No kidding.
Please see the list above for the complete set of eSIM capability devices. Whatever. Not
interesting. Not that much. I'm just learning about this technology. Maybe in the future,
or right now. In our opinion, if you have an older model device and it still doesn't support
eSIMs, or an eSIM cannot technically be added to your phone as a software update, as it needs to
manufacture with a device, you'll have to make the decision whether it's really worth it to
purchase a new device to get the eSIM feature. I'll have you know that the only reason why I
would ever change this tablet that I'm using right now to make this video is for drive space.
I'm not interested in the eSIM bullshit. Fuck off with that. I'll just take a nice SIM card
and that's it. And I hope they don't stop making those SIM cards. They better not. Enough is enough.
And if you are already planning to upgrade your mobile device, then it's worth considering
getting a newer model which supports eSIMs. I am only going to get another phone like this.
Fuck you with your smartphones and watches and stuff like that. I'm not that much of a gadget
now. I just do what I have to do. Most of the newer phone models have this feature. Okay,
whatever. Maybe this hasn't. Because I did buy it during that time period of
2023 actually. Maybe it hasn't. I don't know. I'll have to check it out. But in all case,
I'm not fucking interested in it. I have no use for it. However, if you're not planning to upgrade,
then you'll have to think hard if upgrading just for this feature is worth it.
Not for me, it isn't. So, fuck off. But for others, okay, no problem. Just don't force me to
upgrade because of this crapola. But then again, maybe this phone already has it. I don't know.
Maybe this tablet already has it. I don't know. But then again, I don't give a shit.
I couldn't care less. It can make your device a future proof. But in most cases,
we think it's not necessary to upgrade for the sole purpose of having an eSIM.
Thank you very much. Exactly what I was thinking. And exactly what I was telling you.
If you are a traveler or planning to use data while you're traveling, whether for leisure or
work, there are a few options that you can do to have an alternative data option without using an
eSIM. There you go. Why would we want to waste our money on a phone that has eSIM features?
It's probably going to be expensive like fucking hell if it hasn't been out yet. Unless my devices
that I'm using already have it. But I don't use it. I don't use it. But maybe somebody else will.
Recommended eSIM for international travel.
UbiGi stands out as one of the most affordable eSIMs in Europe. It offers efficient connectivity
to more than 200 plus destinations worldwide. One of the cheapest European eSIMs now goes
to UbiGi with plans starting at two US dollars for their 500 megabyte plan.
See their plans here. Not that interesting. UbiGi has extended to eSIM plans in Europe.
These are eSIM plans that you can use in multiple countries and are best when you're planning to
travel. Whether it's for leisure or business. I guess those who can afford to travel for leisure
can afford this. Or those who are using it for business. But then again the business people
have to provide you with that. Not you yourself. 500 megabytes UbiGi Europe eSIM
for two US dollars. Valid for one day. One gigabyte Europe extended eSIM for 30 days.
Okay blah blah blah. 10 and then 100 gigabytes Scandinavia and Baltic.
Fact. Frequently asked questions. Facts.
SIM card versus eSIM. Let's get an answer to the most common questions about
SIM cards and eSIMs. Do I really need an eSIM right now?
It's not really a need. Although eSIM SIMs can be one of the few newest feature of newer phones
and other devices at the moment. We ourselves believe you don't need to upgrade to a new gadget
yearly. Good. If your phone is not supporting the eSIM feature at the moment. We do own phones that
have no eSIMs. Check if you really have a lot of reasons to upgrade your device.
Exactly. We think it's not useful to upgrade solely for the eSIM feature. However it is
solely up to you. We wrote this article and a lot more is inside our blog to help you make this
decision. Okay that sounds feasible. Is an eSIM better than regular SIM cards? No it's not.
They have very different purposes. If you want to use the eSIMs with the ultrabooks and smartwatches
on your mobile phones then you could do that. However local and physical SIM cards are still
important for having SMS features and for signing up for a lot of services both offline and online.
There you go. Why do we need an eSIM? For example if your bank or social media accounts
need to send you a verification code, eSIM cannot be used for this feature.
You are not getting a phone number with an eSIM. That's it.
There's that cute girl again. Regular physical SIM cards are still very important right now and most
especially this is usually needed for you to have as it is the main way of contact.
Exactly. Not just dial up or use the number that's stored inside my phone.
Can I use an eSIM and SIM card at the same time? Yes you can. You probably need to do that.
If you're using a mobile phone that supports the eSIM feature you can use the SIM card
and the eSIM at the same time. Basically once you activated your eSIM profile your phone has
the capability to connect with another network. At the moment a lot of the eSIM companies
offer affordable ways to connect to the internet. If you can activate these online
without ever going to physical stores this is most efficient when you're on the road
traveling in another country and want to take advantage of the affordable data plans.
Which one is better SIM cards or eSIM? Depending on your purpose.
We'll have to say that neither is better. They each have their own use. SIM cards are used as
your main point of contact and eSIMs you can use it as an alternative way to connect to the internet
through a new data plan. So it's just a data plan for internet that's it. It has nothing to do with
being a phone. Do I get a phone number with an eSIM? No you don't. eSIMs are virtual cards.
When you get an eSIM data plan you usually get a code link or a QR code to activate that plan
but no phone number is included. So if you have a phone you're kind of fucked.
My phone doesn't support an eSIM. Can I download an app to get an eSIM?
No you can't. This feature needs to be manufactured with your phone.
Please see the complete list of devices that support eSIM above.
What are the most popular eSIM brands right now? eSIM brands are we are loving at the moment
HoloFly, UbiGee, NoBad and more. We wrote various articles comparing these.
Will eSIMs replace the SIM cards? Is eSIM better than physical SIM? This we never know.
Okay an ambiguous answer. But for now we think that eSIMs will still be very important in the
next coming years. While SIM cards had their time in the standard for travel data,
eSIMs are now leading the charge with their modern and convenient features.
Best things about a SIM card. SIM cards are very important right now.
It's how you get a mobile number. It's how you get a mobile number which is the most important
forms of contact right now. With SIM cards you can also use them as a way to save phone numbers.
And even if some other address and notes and even some other addresses and notes that can be moved
from one device to another. I have to have to start doing that. SIM cards can be are also
very important when you need to connect to a mobile number to certain services. A lot of
services are online right now like banks, institutions, credit and debit cards and
even social media and other accounts will need to have a phone number to receive special codes
like an OTP to prove your identity. Yeah I've noticed that. Local SIM card data plans are also
some of the cheapest when it comes to getting a local data connection. Worst thing about a SIM
card. The only con we see right now is that it can be a nuisance to always get a physical
SIM card. That's okay. Don't worry about it. When you're traveling to a new country and need data
and there are times it's hard to get to a physical store to get a local SIM card.
Sometimes the process is so hard to get a local SIM card. Some countries require
identification and legal forms so getting a local SIM card takes time. Also physical SIM cards
especially prepaid cards expire. You always have to remember to reload them or else you have you
can lose the signal of these prepaid cards which makes it difficult to access a lot of the
services connected to the card. Best things about eSIMs.
eSIMs is a new technology that can help you connect to various data networks and take advantage of
cheaper data alternatives when traveling outside your country so you don't have to worry about
data roaming charges from your phone or from your local SIM company. eSIMs are also easier to
purchase and activate as they only need to be done online without the need for a physical card
but it's better best to have a physical card. Removing the tedious process of having to travel
just to get a SIM. Once you get it online you can activate it anytime anywhere.
Worst thing about an eSIM. eSIMs right now can't still be used on
their own so if you need a mobile number you'll need to have a local SIM card while having an
eSIM as eSIMs don't provide you with a local number. eSIMs are only part of the newer
phones and devices right now so if you're looking for to have an older phone or device from a few
years ago there's a chance that you don't have the eSIM capability.
Probably I don't but I really don't know. Not that I really give a shit.
Final thoughts on the eSIMs versus SIM card for data travel. While SIM cards were once
defined our connection to the world eSIMs are redefining it with their superior technology
and ease of use. Are you ready for this move? I don't know I'm not sure yet. Let us know if you
have a question about eSIMs or versus SIM card or if you think the uh or or what you think in the
comments below. There's a cute cat. Okay Ruben Arabes. This post may contain affiliated links
if you think so. Please make a purchase. You may earn a commission. Okay okay whatever.
Okay this guy John Perel wrote Wednesday the 10th of May 2020.
Might want to clarify about the eSIM and phone number. About a new phone
iPhone 13 and Verizon was transferred over to the eSIM. Works exactly like before and
verification codes work. Okay whatever. Not that I really care.
That's it. So we'll just uh close this and we'll close uh this one and um there it is in a nutshell.
I guess if you have it uh and you know how to use it and uh you really need it okay use this
SIM card but if not if not don't bother. I'm not gonna bother with it unless I'm unless my phone
my phone breaks down or this breaks down or if I get a new if I get a new tablet because
if I'm running out of room all the time and I have to always erase things before I upgrade
upgrade my programs I don't know what else to say. But even if I do get the new device
with a new feature of eSIMs I don't think I'm gonna use it. Not yet. I'm not traveling anywhere.
I'm still in Canada. I'm still in Montreal, Quebec. Why would I need it?
Unless of course it becomes a new uh becomes a newfangled feature
or you log into a whatever. Anyways that's it. Super Dave. Just conclude and close it off.
Seems to me that this eSIM is actually storing your data about you.
On the cloud. On their cloud. The companies that provide the eSIM uh eSIM service.
I don't know what else to say.
But that could be dangerous because you have to really make sure that your information is secure
so that no hacker could hack into your system. That's just it. That's all.
Anyways at this point I'll bid you adieu. Au revoir. Adios. Hasta maรฑana. Hasta luego.
Arrivarderci. Oops. Arrivarderci. Shalom. Salamaliko. Sayonara. Dosvidanya. Auf Wiedersehen.
Goodbye. Also, merci beaucoup. Muchos gracias.
Shukran. Shasha. Spasiba. Shasha. Spasiba. Dankeschon.
And if you need it, get it. If not, don't bother. That's it. And now the only thing to say is
there's no intelligent life down here. And thank you very much.
