Deep in the African grasslands, a new group of lions is born. A mama lion has a few babies,
small and weak. They can't see or do anything for themselves, so they need their mom for everything.
She feeds them her milk and keeps them safe from danger. These first few days are risky.
The babies are delicate and danger is all around. The mama lion moves her babies often. This keeps
them safe from hungry animals that might find them by their smell. Hyenas and leopards are
always a threat. Even other lions, especially the males, can be dangerous to the little cubs.
The cubs grow quickly, getting stronger every day. Their eyes open and they see the world for
the first time. They become closer to their mom. She cleans them and teaches them important things
they need to know. The African savannah is huge and can be tough to live in. The cubs will need
all the skills their mother teaches them to survive in this wild place. The cubs grow fast
and start to play. They roll around and wrestle with each other. These games are important. The
cubs are learning how to hunt. They pretend to stalk and pounce on each other. Their mother
watches them and sometimes plays too. She shows them how to hunt for real. They stalk small animals
together and the cubs copy their mom. The cubs learn to work as a team, circling their prey.
They get their first taste of meat, which gives them lots of energy to grow. Life isn't all work.
The cubs love to explore. They chase butterflies and climb trees. They are curious about everything.
The savannah is their giant playground, full of exciting new things to discover. As the cubs grow
older, they learn about the difficult parts of life on the savannah. They see their mother and
the other female lions hunt zebras and wildebeest. Hunting takes teamwork. Everyone has a job to do
to get food. The male lions with their big manes look very strong. Their job is to protect the
group's land from other lions. They walk around the edges of their land and their loud roars can
be heard all over. Sometimes they fight other male lions and it can be dangerous. The whole group needs
the strong male lions to keep them safe. They're like guards. Life goes on. The cubs are almost
grown up and they need to find their place in the group. The young male lions will leave their
family to start their own. They might try to take over another group or start a new one.
This is a difficult and dangerous time. They have to show they are strong. The young female lions
usually stay with their family. They will have their own cubs someday. The savannah is filled
with the roars of lions. Each roar is a story of survival, strength and the balance of life and
death. The lions, the kings and queens of the savannah rule their land. Their lives show us the
power of nature. From birth and growing up to the fight to stay alive. And so the story of the
lion continues from parents to their cubs making sure these amazing animals will always live on
the African savannah.
