Joao Fonseca vs Learner Tien For The Title! | Next Gen ATP Finals Highlights Day 5

What a start for the American, he breaks straight away. He's not coming foul or not. Balance. Ready. Really catching hold of the first smash here. This one should have gone away. It was a slight miss hit from him. This is just fabulous hitting, just using the Fonseca pace. Francis was just playing a few days ago. You know exactly what to expect. You know the way to... Brilliant. Francis here in Fonseca to go with a single-handed backhand at the minute. We've seen a number of chipped backhands from him. Just goes long. And the first set belongs to Lerner-Thien. Times throughout the week. Love 15. Makes it look so simple. Perfect contact, doesn't he? Yes, he did. A complete miss hit off the return. He reacted so well. Be up to that one. Love 15. Could he get up to it? More options you have once you get there. And Thien-Jo Fonseca at the moment just cannot find a way past him. Such a smart lob from Thien higher than Fonseca. Yes. So difficult to put away. He's setting point. Up high on the backhand there. He's just hoping for good placement there, but couldn't find... Thien. Set one to set two. Nearly a 20-kilometer-an-hour difference there. Intentionally from Thien, dropping that much pace from the forearm wing. There it is. Goes up the mini-brake. Yeah, and a shot like that, you just can't second-guess. Yeah, he got it. Loved the choice. Al Fonseca. And he wants to hear it from the crowd. He is in control of this final now. A double break in front. And after just eight minutes, he will serve for the... Slowly but surely, Joao Fonseca is turning this final around. It was a slow start from the 18-year-olds, but he now leads by two sets to one. That's brilliant. Couldn't learn a Thien. Just absorbing the pace. Beautiful at the Thien. So he stays ahead in this fourth set early on. Thien leads two games to one. Still on serve. It was a slightly angled forehand here. A little bit more width used there. It makes all the difference. So you really got Fonseca off balance and guessing where you're going. What a response to being called foot-fault. That was a great mental effort from him. Something's chipped a tooth or something. Joao Fonseca is the 2024 Next Gen Champion. This remarkable Brazilian becomes the second youngest winner of this event after a certain Yannick Sinner. And he has well and truly announced himself on the big stage this week. He goes unbeaten across his five matches. And we could well be looking at a star in the making.
