A tiny film from Group 5-Tue- Shift 1
Hello, Ms. Kim Lee. Could you share with us about your inspiration behind your dedication
to carry out this meaningful project, Legacy for Life?
For me, the greatest inspiration and motivation comes from my mother. She's a person with a kind
heart. She taught me an incredibly valuable lesson in life, and that's the last lesson
she taught me. Could you share more about it? The last time I saw her, I still remember that
at that time. I could understand the things she did, but now I know everything she did
left behind a light.
Kim Lee, go get the bag. Dinner is ready. Yes, Mom.
Wow, smells so good. What do you have today? There are so much. Wow, I have three bowls of rice.
Wow, so yummy.
Wow, there are so many good people in this world, right?
Yeah, so brave and noble to do something like that. And their family as well. They must have
been heartbroken agreeing to donate their loved ones organs.
Well, I have thinking that I want to be an organ donor too.
I'm joking. Organ donation is not something to joke about.
I'm not joking. I want to help any people. And if anything happens to me,
I want my organs to help people who really need them.
Honey, I know you want to do it for good, but I can bear the thinking of you being incomplete.
It's too hard for me, for our daughter as well.
Mom, I think I can't agree with that either.
It is not about me. It's about giving life to someone else who really needs them.
But there are thousands of other ways to help people.
But you need to leave this world whole so all men can rest in peace. Trust me.
You and I will live so long.
No, no, no. Let's not talk about this again. Just have dinner.
Okay, so it's just my idea. Forget about it.
One day, I hope you will understand why this matters to me.
I'm coming home. See you later.
Please help. Help my mom, please.
Family, please take her. The patient is in a deep coma caused by a severe brain damage
from the accident. We will try our best, but I will ask the family for a boost.
Doctor, money is not an issue. Just do whatever it takes to save her.
Please. We will try our best.
Yes, please.
Family.
Our brain has been in a very difficult state. We will try our best, but the patient has seen
death not as brain death and her life expectancy is expected to stop within the next 24 hours.
We are so sorry.
Is there nothing else you can do?
We will try our best, sir.
Family, I have something to say. A while ago, my sister said that she wanted to be
a boy with daughter and she asked me to have her sign up. She tries to donate her organs.
If it was a wish, we honor it, but we need your permission to proceed.
No, no way, daughter. I will never allow this.
I know this is a good deed, but don't you see her? She's got hit by a car.
And now you want to take parts of her body away? How cruel it is.
I'm afraid I'm not a king. I will never allow this, so please leave them alone, please.
Oh, please, doctor. Let them have some more time to think about that.
This is a lot to take in right now, so I'm going to leave it at that.
Why did it happen so suddenly?
Just yesterday, I was sharing a meal with mom.
You know, today, how could she leave it like this?
No, no, no. I won't give her organs away to anyone.
Hey, what are you doing? You just leave me alone.
Oh my God, where have you been, Layla?
Thank God, Layla. I've been searching for you all this morning.
Where did you... Why did you come here?
I... I just...
Didn't you need to rest? Why did you come here?
Weren't you thinking of doing something stupid, weren't you?
No, no, mom.
Are you crazy, Layla? Why did you think like that?
Mom, what else can we do? I've been stuck in this hospital for a year.
Oh, foolish child. Why should you let that thought into your mind?
Would you ever think how I would feel?
You know, for a year, I'm just lying in the bed and watching you working day and night
just to save me, mom. A year is enough.
I don't want you to be stuck with me forever.
No, why did you think like that?
Do you think I would ever be happy if something happened to you, Layla?
A year is enough, mom. I don't want you to be stuck with me forever, mom.
No, everything will be okay. I'll make sure you get better.
You know, even nice people won't give away their heart to a stranger, mom.
No.
I can... I don't think it can wait, mom.
I will find that person. There are many people in this world.
They are nice people. Trust me.
Foolish child, if you ever think of this again, just tell me, okay?
Don't do like that.
Foolish child, everything will be okay.
Just promise me, if you ever feel this way, just tell me, okay?
Am I being selfish?
Dear my beloved family,
If you are reading this, it means I have already left this world.
I want to say how much I love you, my greatest choice and pride.
I'm writing to share my final wish.
I registered as an organ donor and I hope you will honor this decision too.
I know it may be hard to accept, but I really want to leave this world meaningfully,
offering what I no longer need to someone else.
A chance for a mother to see her child grow,
for a young woman to dream again,
or a father to walk his daughter down to the air.
Please don't let grief take over, but be proud,
because through this choice, we are giving also the gift of life.
And finally, remember that I'll always be with you in the hurt and through the kindness you share.
That is the legacy I want to leave behind with all my love, Mom.
Have you done baking my mother's stuff?
Dad, here's Mom's final wishes.
She really wanted this.
No, I'm not reading anything.
I will never allow this.
You guys are trying to persuade me.
But Dad, you're doing this for yourself, not for Mom.
Have you ever tried putting yourself in her place?
We should all know what she wanted.
I'm thinking of her.
She's so painful.
If we allow this, how can she find peace?
Don't you care about your mother anymore?
Of course.
Of course I care about her, so that's why I'm trying to honor her wishes.
Please, you have to accept that.
She's gone.
She won't feel pain anymore, and she'll stay whole in our heart.
Be sad.
This afternoon, I met a young woman.
She was full of fear.
Her eyes, they had no life in them.
She was ready to give up because she thought no one could give her a chance.
No one could be kind enough.
She's just a stranger, and this is her mom.
A stranger, yes, but does that matter, Dad?
That Irish mom letter, it became so clear.
She wants to give others a chance to live, to have a future.
That's what she wanted the most.
If, what if someday, it's me?
What if I'm in the same situation?
Who will be there to help me?
If we don't take this step, who will?
In suppressing our grief, we decided to honor my mother's final wish.
That day, a heart was transplanted right at a hospital where she passed away.
Other tissues and organs were swiftly transported to a major hospital
to be transplanted into patients awaiting the chance at life.
Thank you, Smith-Kinley, for your sharing.
Before we end our program today, does anyone in the audience have any questions
or have something to say with Miss Kimmy?
Oh, Miss, please.
Hello, everyone.
Hello, Miss Kimmy.
And I'm very happy to be here at your series section today
because I am your huge fan for quite a long time.
And, you know, hearing your story directly is really touching me
because I was one of the critically viewed patients.
And the reason why I'm still here and be able to talk to you guys
is that because of the kindness of a person out there
who is willing to give away their precious heart for a stranger.
And I also, you know, register as an organ donor
so that I can continue the legacy of my savior.
And, you know, just come to go to life.
And that's what I want to share with you guys today.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for your story.
When we were born, each of us cry and miss the smile of those around us.
So let us leave so that when we depart this life,
we can leave a legacy behind and smile through the tears.
Although VNAP has over 86,000 registered organ donors
who have pledged to donate after that,
the number of transplants still falls short of meeting patient needs
due to the compatibility requirements of donate organs.
However, efforts to promote organ donation
faced obstacles rooted in traditional beliefs.
This is why we made a film to honor the noble acts of organ donation.
