Dvořák's music, with its folkloristic character and wealth of melodies, has had a special significance for Kloeckner, whose ‘always warm, controlled and almost rapturously singing, but never doting cello tone’ was highly praised by the Aachener Nachrichten newspaper from an early age. The cello concerto in particular is an important pillar of his repertoire - finally recording it on CD was the fulfilment of a long-cherished wish. The recording is a live recording: the concerto was recorded in a single take in Koblenz, at the opening concert of the 10th IMUKO Festival (of which Kloeckner is the founder and artistic director) with the Romanian Chamber Orchestra under Cristian Măcelaru. Benedict Kloeckner describes the development phase in Timisoara, Romania - the city that was crowned European Capital of Culture in 2023 - as ‘extremely inspiring’.
