Hello and welcome to Valencia.
I'm inside the Mercat Central de Valencia. This is one of the largest
indoor markets in Europe and this place holds more than 1000 different food vendors.
Here you can get some fresh produce, seafood, meat, ready-made food,
anything you wish from the local Valencian food. So let's go and check it out.
Behind me is a jamón stall selling the famous Spanish ham,
also different types of cheese. This place smells incredible.
Chorizo and many different types of sausages, dried and cured meat.
Some incredible looking ham, 40 euros per kilo. Some more cheese.
Behind me is a fruit stall where you can get some fresh fruits or a freshly made juice.
Fruit cup is three euros.
These are definitely the biggest dates that I've seen in my life, for sure.
Bocadillos, 1.50.
This place is absolutely crazy when it comes to food and the prices are excellent as well.
I've been around Europe and I've never seen anywhere that you can buy a sandwich for 1.50.
Here you can get some chorizo or different types of sausage, cheese or jamón for tasting.
I had to start my morning with some jamón ibérico.
Cheers!
Nice, velvety, very thin slices, very easy to chew.
Halfway there with melting in your mouth. Very, very nice taste.
This is not the top quality, this is grain fed, but still very, very good.
Very tasty jamón ibérico.
Look how transparent this slice is. You can practically see through.
Salud!
After so many fruit and jamón stands, we finally come to a proper place.
This place sells the salted bacalao, the salted cod,
salted and dried tuna, different salted fish,
as well as those pinchos, the stick with anchovy, some olives, maybe some pickled vegetables
and plentiful of different types of olives. This is definitely my kind of place.
We got five different types of pinchos and they have anchovies, olives, pickled pepper.
There is like a small egg, then olive, then some slice of fish.
I got one with the octopus as well.
So let's try this seafood and veggie mix on the stick.
Okay, let's go first with the octopus pincho.
It's very tasty.
The octopus has been properly cooked so you can chew it with no effort
and also that pickle just improves everything, gives acidity to the octopus bite.
So in this pincho we have a cube of cheese, olive, anchovy, pepper and another pepper.
They're all pickled.
Let's go.
The cheese is quite salty, very nice pungent taste.
Anchovy has its own fishy taste and then of course the pickle improves everything.
Another great bite on the go.
On this pincho we have a very small egg, we have olive,
a slice of fish and of course pickled pepper.
Let's go.
I suppose this is a quail egg.
It has an amazing taste.
The fish tastes like fish and again these pickles improve everything.
Definitely something for the seafood lovers.
It's acidic, it's strong, you can sense the seafood taste,
you can feel the taste of these pickles as well.
Very nice and refreshing snack.
Just outside one of the entrances to the Mercat Central,
there is an horchata and churro stand.
So we're going to go there to try some local horchata and parton and churros.
Let's go.
We ordered horchata or the tiger nut milk,
we ordered parton, pastry that goes with it
and we ordered hot chocolate and some churros.
It's my first time to try tiger nut milk so let's go.
Very strange taste, something in between sweet and sour.
There is kind of almondy taste to it as well but I've never tried anything like it.
It has this refreshing note, that's for sure.
But let's try it with the local pastry parton.
Parton is quite light, very very airy pastry.
Pastry on its own doesn't have much of a taste
but there is this very sweet top with the white sugar
which makes every bite a bit crunchy and sweet.
It kind of goes quite well with the tiger nut milk.
Cheers.
Churros are originally from Madrid but obviously here they're eaten as well.
So let's go and try local churro.
It looks very very nice, very crispy, nice color.
Let's go.
Chocolate is also very very thick which is a good sign.
No, this is something special.
This is a perfect churro, chocolate as well.
Very very thick, almost like a pudding.
Cheers.
And just here behind me you can buy chufa, the tiger nuts.
This is used to make that meal that we just drank at Orchateria.
In between going to our next place we visited this huge and very long park
that stretches out and divides the whole Valencia city.
And this is a green lung of the city offering some amazing greenery and quietness.
We made a stop just in the middle of this park
and we have another almost 50% of it to cover by foot.
And we saw this very cute looking kiosk offering some refreshments.
So we got some juices, water, granisado which is obviously Spanish granita.
So we're gonna rest a bit and then continue to our next spot
where we're gonna enjoy some proper Valencian paella.
Cheers.
We are outside of city center and you can see behind us the city of science and arts.
And we are going to visit Alqueria del Pou.
This is Pou's farmhouse.
We want to try some genuine proper Valencian paella.
So let's go.
Very hectic and busy farmhouse restaurant.
It's full of people and there was a huge queue.
And we were lucky we couldn't book over the phone
because the phone was not accessible.
It was not responding to any calls.
So we were cleaning up and we got the table inside.
Unfortunately we were not seated outside.
They have this amazing garden.
But anyway it is what it is.
We ordered a huge paella Valenciana for four people.
We ordered some drinks and we're going to enjoy some proper authentic paella here.
We are in the kitchen here of Alqueria del Pou.
And this is where all the action happens.
We can see the multiple paellas being prepared here.
It's very hot.
It's hectic.
It smells nice and it creates some tasty magic every minute.
It's amazing to see all these paellas getting done.
Everything is made fresh from the scratch.
And this is the place where you can enjoy some proper authentic Valencian food.
What an incredible experience being in that kitchen.
It's so hot.
I think I lost all the facial hair from this side
being close to those paellas being cooked.
I mean just an amazing experience.
And we got some drinks and hopefully our paella is going to be here soon as well.
While we were waiting for our paella we also got this incredible looking ensalada Valenciana.
The Valencia style salad full of different ingredients.
I mean this is just unbelievable.
We have boiled eggs, tuna, anchovies, salmon, the beefy Valencian tomato,
olives, lettuce, capers, even some pickled peppers.
I mean this is incredible.
I got a bit of salmon with this purple onion and tomato.
Let's go.
It really goes well together.
It's a huge mix of different fish, different vegetables.
Some of them fresh, some of them pickled.
But just an amazing, very creative salad.
Very refreshing and very tasty.
Cheers.
Our paella is finally here.
We ordered a huge plate for four people and it smells just incredible.
I mean you just really want to inhale this amazing smell.
It looks gorgeous, smells absolutely incredible and I can't wait to dig in.
Caramelized rice, snails, green beans, broad beans, chicken meat, rabbit meat.
I don't know if I mentioned everything and some lemon to squeeze on top.
This is a proper original Valencian paella.
Everything else is invented afterwards.
But this is where all it started from.
Huge plate for four people.
Now we're going to enjoy some great food.
Let's go with the first bite.
Meat is nice and tender.
Rice is perfect.
Green bean and the broad bean just melts in your mouth.
Really an amazing food.
I think this was a rabbit's kidney.
Very nice taste as well.
Again the combination of ingredients is something you can't beat.
And being cooked as we saw back there on these really strong flames
creates something special with each paella.
Time to try one of the caracoles, the snail.
Oh, managed.
This is my first time eating snails and it's nice.
It's a bit salty, it's a bit chewy.
Has that obviously snail texture.
But it's good.
A perfect lunch and a perfect paella at a perfect ambience.
And again, salute.
We really enjoyed this lunch.
But of course it's time to discover some more things.
So let's continue to our next place.
Behind me is Nuevo Oslo, El Rey del Almorzaret.
And this is a famous local sandwich bar in Valencia.
The name means the king of breakfast
and this place took Valencian sandwiches to the next level.
So let's go and check it out.
This huge display of ingredients behind me
is actually what you can choose for your sandwich.
Of course except these tortillas here.
But everything else that you see is what you can choose and get in your sandwich.
We just got seated at the king of Valencian breakfast
and we ordered some Spanish tortilla.
We got some olives and peanuts as a regular thing that they give to all the customers.
And I also ordered some arm-sized sandwich.
Classic Spanish tortilla made with eggs, potatoes and onions.
Let's go.
Nice and hot, very dense.
The tastes of potato, egg and onion of course are prevalent.
These are the main ingredients.
But anyway very hearty, very nice breakfast option.
Wow.
My sandwich is here and this is one mean looking sandwich.
I got half and half and this half has meat.
This is griado, the chicken oven baked meat
with some addition of spices and some other things as well.
And here I have some scrambled eggs and bacon.
This sandwich smells divine, looks absolutely inviting and astonishing.
So let's dig in.
So these are now practically two very large sandwiches.
Let's start with the part stuffed with egg and bacon.
The size of it is just overwhelming.
Standard scrambled eggs with very nice tasting cubes of bacon.
Bacon has been properly fried.
It's not fatty, it's meaty.
Definitely nice and delicious start of the morning.
A beautiful looking meat.
So let's go.
Meat is quite juicy, quite tasty, full of flavor.
Beneath the meat there's potato chips that gives that crunch every bite
and some additional taste as well.
I definitely prefer this one with the meat.
Salud.
Just a perfect start of any day.
Definitely the kings of breakfast in Valencia.
This breakfast was so filling that I think half of the day I will not be able to eat anything.
Anyway, delicious sandwiches and obviously very famous among locals as well.
Valencia is a truly an amazing city and I hope you enjoyed this video.
And if you did, please like and subscribe.
And I will see you next time.
All the best.
