After travelling halfway around the world in the week, Chelsea are back at home
and they've got the neighbours round on Sunday evening as Brentford make the short journey
across West London. With European progress secured in Kazakhstan, now it's back to domestic duties
and as overseas, Chelsea are flying on the home front just now. Four successive wins in the
Premier League has ignited title talk, not from the manager but from supporters who've been given
licence to dream by Enzo Maresca and his squad. But for the first time this season, Chelsea are
having to deal with a number of absentees. Neto is suspended, James, Fafana, Felix, Paddy Achille,
Mudrik and Lavia unavailable. There are three changes to the side that started at Spurs with
Gusto, Tosin and Madhuake coming in. Tosin is the only to start tonight who did on Thursday.
Brentford show two changes from the XI that beat Newcastle last week. Mikel Damsgaard and
Mads Roslev come in for Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho. Brian Mbermo has nine goals so far.
He's looking to score here for the third season running. Gusto in for Nicholas Jackson who flashed
it just wide. What a ball that was from Malo Gusto and Jackson just a foot or so off target.
Yeah, I mean it was probably a couple of inches just too high for Jackson. He does really well,
gets in between the two centre-backs there, just really stretching for it. Maybe as I said,
an inch or two too high but great ball in from Gusto as you said. Macedo looking for the early
ball to release. Jackson's a brilliant pass as well. Can Jackson get a shot off? He did and it
stung the palms of Mark Flecken who's made more saves than any other keeper in the league this
season and he was called into action again there. Yeah, great ball played over the top. Great
reaction, a good run from Jackson there. Good strike as well to the near post. Flecken does
really well, gets two strong hands onto it but first real chance Chelsea's had. Gusto feigned
to shoot and pulled Wissek. Now he will have a go with his left peg. It's broken out for Palmer
who hits it first time and again Flecken can only bat it away, it was too hot to hold on to.
But again it was a shot by Gusto which had no real power on it and it got deflected into Palmer's
path and again great strike, very little backlift there and Flecken as I said gets two hands on it.
Disguised the pass to Palmer, he's wriggled free of his man and he's found Nicholas Jackson
and Pinnock got across well to cover. Jackson puts his head in his hands, it'll be a corner.
Corsedo's playing out of his boots, I mean absolutely top draw. If there's a better midfield
player in the Premiership this year, I haven't seen him and again he sets the ball up for Cole Palmer.
First touch wasn't the best, eventually got it through to Jackson who couldn't get out of his
feet. Pinnock comes across and again Chelsea get a corner. That's a poor one from Flecken, he's
giving it straight to Maduake. Maduake driving on, is there an angle for the shot? Flecken redeemed
himself, that was almost a gift for Chelsea from the Brentford goalkeeper. Well I'll make my point
again, playing out from the back's great when it works but when it doesn't like that you give
Chelsea an opportunity. Noni Maduake got onto the ball, strode into the box, he's hit the ball
towards the far post and Flecken stuck out a leg. Come on Noni, go at him. It's from the cross,
Kukerea's made a great cross and he's made it in and Chelsea take the lead just before half-time.
It's Mark Kukerea's first Premier League goal for the club. Never mind his boots, he put his head
where it mattered there and Chelsea get the breakthrough in the derby. He's been so so
impressive in this first half, not just defensively but getting forward. He's even popped up on the
right hand side in front of Noni Maduake just now and this time he's in the box. He's six yards out,
he's not very big but the ball's great, he gets on the end of it. Fantastic header into the far
post and much deserved and this little man here, he epitomises what Chelsea's about at the moment.
Quality, enthusiasm and look at that, what a great header into the far post. He might not be the
tallest player on the pitch but he put his head in where it mattered there. Still got it Cole Palmer,
here's Sancho, driving Jadon Sancho. What a chance, what a chance. Oh my word. First of all Cole Palmer,
the balance and the strength on the edge of the box. He had three or four challenges and he just
ribbled away from them all. Plays a great ball out to Jadon Sancho. Jadon Sancho goes at the
fullback, gets to the byline, picks the ball back and Jackson six yards out. Goalkeeper's nowhere,
all he's got to do is tap it into the empty goal and tries to get too much on it. I think
it hits him on the shin. Sanchez with the launch, turn up underneath it, cushioned his header down.
Fernandez, Jackson, nice touch off for Palmer. Sancho, is he onside here? Jadon Sancho, round
flakker, now the angle's gone. Still with Sancho, brilliant piece of skill. Floated up, couldn't find
a teammate. Flag did stay down. Another chance comes and goes. Yeah it does and you look at
these chances, you've got to really finish one and get this game done and dusted. It was a great
little ball played and he's definitely onside, there's no problem. His touches take him around
the goalkeeper, sells another dummy to the goalkeeper. He's tried to flick it to the far
post, doesn't get enough on the ball and Brentford defenders clear it and it's just too many touches
there. Into the near post, it was touched on by Norgard, danger not passed yet. Towson got something
of it, put back in by Collins, got to be careful here. What a save from Robert Sanchez to deny Christian
Norgard a certain goal. That is a stunning stop from the Spaniard in the Chelsea goal. Well everybody
stood up, Brentford fans as well as Chelsea fans, you cannot believe he's made this save. Sancho,
Jackson will get there. Fernandes making a great run, Jackson going for it. Oh it wasn't far wide
either. Was there a touch from the goalkeeper? It's give a goal kick and the assistant this
side hasn't seen it either and I'm not sure Flecken got a touch to it. It's a great strike,
faintest maybe but the referee hasn't seen it and he's give a goal kick and Brentford
three changes have been made. Here's Mbumo, three bodies in the box here. Oh it's a good cross as
well. Oh it's off the crossbar, what about the follow-up and the referee has not had an indication
on his watch. My goodness me, how many more of these are going to come and go for Brentford?
How has this not gone in? Fabio Carvalho just onto the pitch, off the bar, off the line and somehow
not in the Chelsea net. You can feel the tension around the stadium. Fantastic, absolutely fantastic.
What a ball we had no right to. Go on Jackson, go at it. Fernandes sets Jackson away,
Palmer's up there with him. Jackson one-on-one with Pinnock, gets the shot.
Massive, massive goal for this Jackson and Chelsea. Is that the moment that wins the game? Huge
from Chelsea's main man up top. A massive, massive moment certainly in this match, maybe in this
season. Chelsea 2, Brentford nil, Nicholas Jackson, well done you. Well after the chance he missed,
he shows great character, great bottle. It goes one-on-one with Pinnock, gets the ball to the
side of him, slides the ball into the near post, fleck and no chance. Chelsea 2-0 up,
deserved but this last five minutes hasn't done my heart any good Matt. Palmer with the free kick,
Tosin attacking it, oh he didn't miss by much. Cole Palmer who's played the ball in has laid
down because he thought he was going to be in the back of the net. He's at the far side there,
can't believe that ball's not ended up in the back of the net. Nick and Brentford looking to make it
nervy late on and then Bermos got there. Is this the moment for them? They do get one back and
there is going to be a lot of stoppage time and now the nerves ramp up again. Wait a minute though,
referee's blown his whistle, he wants a word with somebody about something and Bermos has
made it 2-1. Now that Jackson goal looks even more important but there are still seven minutes
to play here. Final whistle, massive win, ghost laid to rest within two points at the top of the
table. What a Sunday night at Stamford Bridge. Kukerea in the first half, Jackson in the second
and Bermos pulled one back. Brentford as ever were game, Chelsea players are on their knees.
There's yellow cards being waved around here, there and everywhere but the salient fact.
Oh he's been booked again Kukerea. It's a red card for Kukerea. Well that is going to be him
suspended for Everton next week if that indeed was a second yellow. Yeah there's the red out
but let's reflect Tommy on a brilliant three points. Well first of all it's a brilliant game
as I said I think Brentford have played their part but Chelsea were by far superior all over
the pitch. Title winning performances, I like this, you have to grind things out Matt,
you know that nothing comes easy and as I said Brentford played their part in a fantastic game
but this could be a crucial three points. Kukerea's red cards souring things slightly
but in the grand scheme of things this is a huge win. Final score at Stamford Bridge Chelsea 2
Brentford 1
