Friday morning. Today's the one day the wind's not going to be blowing in a while. I definitely
have to get the milo covered up that the last 100 acres we planted so I got that mixed up. Now
gonna go spray that in two loads actually. Need to spray our early beans and then make it back to
enjoy harvest. Walker and Laura are coming to help today so we're excited to have their help.
Meet the Peterson family. Our dad, the three Peterson brothers, and our families farm together
in central Kansas. Our family farm started in 1882 and has been raising cattle and crops ever since.

Nathan's spraying this field I finished planting. I'm gonna get the planter out of his way.
Take it back up to the farm. There's the capstan nozzle control system in action.
Pulsing. Looking good. Kill those weeds. All right I got the milo covered up and I
rinsed everything really good. Putting some fuel in quick. Gonna take the sprayer to the field.
Have Brooke Anna, I think, pick me up with my lunch. Take me back to my nurse semi. I'll probably
say hi to everyone at the harvest field and then try to go get them beans sprayed.
The cows are on this 80 that we burned. I'm really liking the way the grass looks.
Right there is the main reason I wanted to bring Crosby with the pasture today so he could cool off.
He knows that's his job when he gets here. He's kind of afraid of the cows but he likes the water.
Nathan had to interrupt a wheat harvest for spraying. I had to interrupt a wheat harvest
checking cows and getting rid of these musk thistles where I see them.
Out with the milo herbicides in with the soybean post. We're gonna get it done.
I'm a little behind but I think I got time in the day.
Off to a good start here.
Sending it.
Okay I am off to go move some bales ahead of double cropping with four at a time.
Moving bales. Let's see we made it out to the field. Do you remember what we made for lunch?
What kind of casserole? A beef casserole. I mean she's close. It has beef in it. So we made
a tater tot casserole. I took a time lapse so that'll that I took that before I got everything
car and take turns eating. So you want to say hi? Hi. Hi. You're my good little helper huh?
We started this field yesterday and Greg said that this will be our last full day of harvest.
So it's gone quicker because we have upgraded some equipment this year.
The yields have been pretty decent especially compared to last year.
We got some tater tot casserole today. We got some green beans, some
grapes. Cherries. Oh cherries and grapes. I like the cherries. Some Mountain Dew.
So much wheat, wheat pollen. Is it getting full? Yeah. It's not empty anymore.
There it goes. Is it going into the semi? Say hi Laura. Hi. We're double unloading today with
Walker's over there running the green cart.
There's about to finish it up right there.
Another busy day cutting wheat. We've got Laura and Walker home and Walker's running the green
cart today. So we got a new new family member involved. Right now it's Kendall and I in the
combines. Mom and Dad driving the semis. Nathan is spraying and I guess that covers about everything.
And Walker's driving the green cart. Hauling my first load to Cargill. We've been going to
Schooler on the other side of Salina but now we're on the west side of the interstate. So we're at
Cargill now. All the elevators are pretty busy because the wheat is an above average crop and
of course there hasn't been any weather delays so everybody is cutting right now.
So you pull on top of the pit and they open up the hoppers underneath and all the wheat goes out
into the pit. It's taken up the leg and put into one of these bins probably.
Okay I think I have some more passengers coming. Put that in the middle. Walker's still doing a
green cart. Another semi just showed up. We're hauling to the co-op today. There's my minivan.
All right getting back from the elevator. That took a long time. There was a lot of trucks there.
We sent these two to a different elevator in Lindsburg so that they wouldn't have to wait so long.
But looks like we're knocking this field out pretty good.
Who's gonna get? I'm gonna take a video. Oh sure. We got a picture.
Now we disperse out to eat more cookies. Another field knocked out. On to the last full field
tonight. We're sitting here enjoying the parade. Everybody wave at the parade.
Who's driving? Is that Ada driving? Oh Ada's driving. Are you guys the passengers?
You're the directors.
It worked out. I only made one trip to Cargill this year.
Flyover. All right I got done spraying our uh our early beans.
We had about it's about 200 acres to hit. Got that milo covered up so I'm going to
head back in the nurse semi which is over there and um get some supper and some more water. My
jug is empty and I am parched. It's so hot I think it's time to start pumping water on the
corn unfortunately unless we get more rain than they say we're going to in the next week. So
well plenty to do when wheat harvest gets done. We'll get started on double cropping but we're
checking things off that's for sure. It's a little dark for chores but there'll be light.
Nice. So knock on wood this is our last day of wheat harvest and uh we're saving the worst for
last. This field uh it got a big heavy rain on it when it was planted and it didn't get the best
stand. It's not all in the 20s. Only spots only the spots of it that got flooded out after planting
are. The rest of the field's probably in the 40s and 50s so but it probably will be our worst field
but other than this field we've had a fantastic wheat harvest. It's been much better than we
thought probably pretty I mean above average for sure especially with the amount of rain we got.
We uh this is about best case scenario so we're very thankful very happy and barring any major
breakdowns today should be the last day and of course last night it was super fun to have
the whole family out with Walker and Maura. Today we we had mom stay home. She was pretty worn out
from from hauling and everything and then I think Kalen's just going to get some Casey's pizza for
us so she's not you know going full out cooking or anything. We're kind of slowing down a little bit
as we near the end here but we might if we finish up today we might start double cropping or
we'll wait till Monday but either way it's still mid-June it's not like we're
we can usually double crop into July so everything's going good.
Okay we are done with the temptee so I unhooked that this morning.
We need to get some bales moved off before we can double crop. Evan lined up 23 at a time
and a couple in the field yesterday too so they're just ready for this trailer to pull
right up next to them. I'm wearing my third string sunglasses today. I've deposited my first
two Endeavor tractors and combines and stuff. Anyways it's Saturday we're gonna have a good day
hopefully finish that last field and we'll just have the one field with some muddy
green spots to go back and finish next week.
Then instead of wheat hauling so much wheat hauling we will be bale hauling so much
bale hauling. If you haven't seen our parody of Free Falling from last year uh go check it out
um the family sang in that one and uh good good parody. It's been in my head a little bit this
year uh as we've as we've cut the wheat. All right Nathan how many loads have you
hauled in the elevator this year? Zero. We're gonna force him to haul one.
You can have the shortest haul Nathan it's only like half a mile.
Yeah he's busy with other stuff it's fine. Okay we just have this little strip left
of of this field. Ada's riding with me eating a peanut butter cookie peanut butter cracker.
She had her pizza too. Anyway this is her last ride probably of harvest and Blair just ran
rode with my dad. Nathan made it back in the nick of time we got a full grain third.
Oh no dad doesn't have very much left but he had a breakdown same thing that happened to Nathan
the other day. Maybe I'll have to finish it. Well that's it harvest 2024 comes to a close.
We finished our furthest southwest field ended up driving by this field on our way home so
that one's mowed off trying to avoid highway for as long as we can it's a mile that way.
There they are back home what a run wonder if dad knows his lights are on.
When you start on a Monday it sure is a whirlwind we got done on Saturday. Well we have a couple
wet spots to chase after we can't decide whether to go after him now or let him dry till Monday.
All right the wind is supposed to blow like 25 mile per hour for four days or something
so we're gonna get the Y drops on now now Saturday afternoon so we'll be ready
to fertilize some corn on Monday hopefully and then get the pivot running because it's
hot and windy and then our corn will be going good. So although we got them all put on in about
15-20 minutes I just gotta go over the nozzles. Evan's gonna take the grain cart up
and also all of a sudden it's cloudy and thundering. I don't know if there's much of a
chance for rain but maybe it'll rain. I forgot to show it but I think I showed when I took them
off last year but we hung them all on the wall over here this year and it may and I just left
all the hardware on so literally we just went down the row and slid them right on and
made it go really fast. So apparently it's raining at Greg's house which is only a mile or
so from the field we just finished cutting wheat at so it's a good thing we didn't take it too easy
and we knocked that out maybe it'll come this way in rain. Our combines are not ready to be put in
the shed though. Got done with this just in time and Evan is taking the grain cart to the shed.
It's raining. My Y-drops are unplugged.
Uh-oh.
That's weird.
I guess I'll figure that out later. Must not have got those set up right or something.
Another chance of thunderstorm. We'll see if this one misses us too.
Uh shout out to Evan for lining up these bales for me and another load over there. Everything
else is on the side of the field. See how fast we can do this here. All right about half done.
Well you guys it is pouring rain on the way home from our last trip to the elevator. I'd say that's
a good sign that we finished just in time. Also we get a free pressure washing of the semi before
we put it in the shed. Another load over there. Storm's coming. It's already raining over at
Greg's house and at the field that we just finished. Well it didn't really rain. It sprinkled
um so I unloaded that. I started my chores. Now I'm meeting out meeting Evan out here to do the
second load. A little bit of a dip here. I'm gonna get this load loaded up and then this
field will be ready to go to double crop forage sorghum. Thanks for watching everyone. Check out
