You're the best. I'm so appreciative of your interviews and how much you love cinema.
And just like how you said on my side, it is so apparent that you care about what you do.
And I love talking to you.
So this is a big question.
I would imagine after three movies, you have gotten so many different fan requests over the years for people to do the sonic voice,
do a voicemail, say happy birthday, do this, do that.
Over the last few years, what is the strangest thing that you've been asked to say in the sonic voice?
You one time asked me to say you a lullaby so you could go to sleep.
That was absolutely the weirdest one.
And you also told me, you said, I need you to do a sonic voice.
So when I'm going to sleep, I need your dulcet tones to kind of put me to bed.
So that's probably the weirdest one I've ever done.
OK, but you didn't mind being a surprisingly gentle big spoon that night.
That's fine. But I asked you to do the sonic voice.
You went to sleep. It was fine.
It worked perfect.
You know what?
The recording still puts me to sleep every night.
Sleep like a baby.
Proof is in the pudding.
It's just it.
Honestly, if it works, eat pudding.
Are you afraid of staining your white, white teeth?
You've seen my interviews, man.
It's all I've got going for me.
The teeth in the hair.
This is kind of crazy.
Whenever I realize this, Jim Carrey has never played a character more than twice in his entire career until now.
Because you are a cinephile.
How many times have you done a sequel?
In my head, it's Ace Ventura.
It's Dumb and Dumber.
That's it.
That's it, right?
Yeah.
When nature calls.
And then Dumb and Dumber 2.
Which, by the way, nature calls also gives us a line.
Kind of hot in these rhinos.
One of the best lines of all time of any.
And then the coming out.
It's one of the most genius scenes in any film.
In cinema, I would say.
If I see a slinky, I always go, everyone loves a slinky.
You got to get a slinky.
And you must be the Monopoly guy.
Right now, Paramount's going, oh, my God.
Stop talking.
I would love to.
We've done this for four days.
They love it.
I get to talk to four friends.
They're fine.
I appreciate you, man.
I'd love to know, what is another Jim Carrey role that you'd like to see him play one more time?
Oh, my God.
What a great question.
I am an enormous fan of The Truman Show.
I'm an enormous fan of it.
It's so funny.
It's like same with Back to the Future.
I don't want anybody to do another version of it.
Same with Truman Show.
It ends so beautifully that I don't know if I want anybody to touch it.
But, man, to see that character and how they've grown from being washed in that time of life and what they're like now, I would love.
I don't want to see it, but I would love to know.
I love that.
I'm a big fan of that Truman Show, man.
I think that's an incredible film.
I mean, can we talk about it?
He should have gotten an Oscar for that.
That's a whole other conversation, the fact that he doesn't have an Oscar.
How many years have passed?
How tiny are Ed Harris' glasses now?
They're probably a little tic-tac.
Just a little.
Probably wearing a tiny little tic-tac.
This is a big question, and I mean this sincerely.
Speaking of actors playing iconic roles, I've been lucky enough to have interviewed a lot of actors who are known for specific roles in their career.
And a lot of times, you can just tell that they don't want to be asked about it.
You can tell that they're sick of talking about that particular character, and if you try, you're not going to get a very good answer.
You and I have talked a lot, specifically about this film and this character.
I've never once gotten that sense from you, and I've never once gotten, more importantly, the sense that that will ever be the case with you.
And I'd love to know what is it about this character that I would imagine if I asked you a Sonic question when you're 80, you're going to give me the same enthusiasm then as you do now.
I'm sort of curious, what's the difference?
You're the best.
Jake, I really, that's very kind of you.
That's very giving of you.
I am so, I am like flabbergasted that I'm this thing.
We were at the red carpet.
You're very familiar with what those are.
And I'm looking down the line, and I'm doing a movie where my character's name is on the cover, is on the poster.
And next to me is like three of my idols.
Jim Carrey's there.
Keanu Reeves is there because he thought the franchise was cool, and he wanted to be a part of it.
Idris Elba is there for the same reason, and the fact that I get to share the screen with them is amazing.
Also, you and I know it's hard to get movies to come out in theaters.
It's hard to get people to care about your films.
And we have built this thing from an incredible IP, but we built this thing in a way that the fans feel like they're taken care of.
I am a fan of it.
When you love something, you want to like shout it to the rooftops, and you want to give it love so people keep seeing it so you can keep making more.
I feel so lucky that I get to be in this industry, but to do this especially is like, you know, it's the crown jewel.
It's the gift that keeps giving.
And then if we get to make a fourth, the character we introduce at the very end of three means that there could be another bananas, incredible star that joins us for four.
And it's almost just like me.
I just can't believe the luck of it.
Exactly what you said, so many voice notes with kids and watching them react to that, having real beautiful emotional moments just from me saying hello to them as Sonic.
It is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life, like you cherish beautiful teeth and hair.
That post-credit scene, man, my first thought was, how did they get Daniel Day-Lewis out of retirement?
I just made that reference.
No!
Literally, someone just asked me, who do you want to play that character in four?
And I said, Daniel Day-Lewis.
And then I said, from my left foot.
And the person's like, well, how are they going to run with just one left foot?
By the way, I'm trying to push DDL hard for this next one.
It's going to happen.
Hey, man, I love you, buddy.
Thank you for always being so kind.
I'm so appreciative of your interviews and how much you love cinema.
And just like how you said on my side, it is so apparent that you care about what you do.
And I love talking to you.
And anytime you decide to skip out, I get very upset.
Love you, buddy.
Take care, man.
I love you.
Good to see you.
