Great. Anne Hathaway, it's so nice to speak to you about Hustle,
which I saw yesterday.
First, I want to say you're like my fashion icon in this film.
Every outfit that you wear in it, I was like, oh, my God.
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that.
The person next to me every time he came on screen was like,
you would wear this, you would wear this.
I'm so glad because there was an idea behind that,
which was that whenever she's conning men,
she wears the sort of clothes that men like.
And then when she's kind of herself on her own time,
she wears the clothes that we like.
Yes, because she wears like the suits.
And there's one where she was like, I like color.
Oh, my God.
Literally, I was like making notes, like going to get that,
going to get that, going to get that.
You do really great accents in this.
Thank you. You do like six or seven in this.
How many of those were like your choice or how many were in the script?
Like, did you just decide, oh, I want to do a Dutch accent?
No, no, no, no.
I when given my brothers, I'll go lazy and I won't do any accent.
I didn't have a choice on any of them.
I actually tried to get out of doing a British accent.
Oh, really? You did it really well.
Oh, thank you very much for saying that.
It was so scary.
So it's like it's and I just because I just didn't want to.
If it went badly, I just thought it's going to be so stressful
for the audience to like have to sit through a comedy
where I'm mangling a British accent, not to mention be really stressful for me.
So I tried to get out of it.
I tried to convince Chris Addison that nobody wanted to hear me do a British
accent, like nobody really wanted to hear that.
But he said no.
And he is the director.
So I had to listen to them.
So I had the very best dialect coach I have ever worked with, Joan Washington.
She's amazing.
And she just kind of, I don't know, got me there.
So thank you for saying that.
You have no idea how much it's appreciated.
No, because Brits do like love taking out and people don't do it.
Do they?
I've never experienced that.
I've only been shown sunshine and roses.
Our politeness really goes away when it comes to Britain.
Oh, yes, it does.
So thank you very, very much.
I do like the idea of you going to him, your director being like,
I appreciate your point, but also, no, no, everything.
And I came in with with charts.
I mean, I just like nobody.
Nobody needs this.
It's just going to no, no, no.
And I mean, you know, it was it was it was a long multi day conversation.
And I just realized he really would be budged.
And I also didn't want to.
It was Chris's first film.
And I just thought if the first thing I do is disempower him
as a director with something he feels so strongly about,
what am I really doing as an actress?
Come on, step up, put on your big girl pants, do a British accent
and then do five other accents as well.
I was excited about the German one.
I thought that would be kind of fun.
Yeah, it was really good.
It was and it like was kind of subtle, which I really liked.
Thank you.
Just complimenting you so much.
There is a dance scene in this film, and I've gone on record
like multiple times and said that if I ever had to be on screen,
dancing would be my worst nightmare.
Yes. In the entire world.
Is it bad or embarrassing to film a dance scene?
Can I imagine there's no music playing, surely?
Before the tequila shots?
Yes. After the tequila shots, it actually is a lot easier.
Thank God I was dancing with the wonderful, so delicious Alec Sharp in this.
And he's always up for a tequila shot.
So so whenever we found ourselves getting too sober and self-conscious,
we would just do another one.
And we wound up very drunk by the end of the day.
You're like, we actually can't do any more takes of this because.
We don't want to do another spin one.
No. Was it the end of the day when you were filming this?
Or did you have to come back?
It was all day.
I don't know. No, no, no.
These were 10 a.m. tequila shots.
These were and we just, you know, we were fairly responsible
professionals doing tequila shots during the dance scene, as you do.
But yeah, no, we got we got through it and then they edited it very well.
Yeah, because there's always like in in the edit, it looks great
because the music's playing and it feels like vibey.
But then whenever you see kind of behind the scenes featurettes,
it's always just like silence and you can just hear the beat shuffling.
Yeah. And also with that one, when I picked that out,
you know, the script changes all the time sometimes.
And I had chosen that dress and those shoes before
knowing I'd have to do a dance sequence.
I couldn't move in it.
So I'm not, you know, I don't know.
I wouldn't say I'm the most I'm not.
But when I think of like an actress who is a great dancer,
I think of like Kate Hudson.
She's a brilliant dancer.
She's in her body.
She's just that's the way she lives.
I'm not exactly that.
And so but then coupled with like I'm in this really tight dress,
I can't lift my arms and I'm in shoes that look great, but you can't walk in.
So I just thought, OK, this is kind of just have to do the body roll.
You just kind of like hit poses and then slowly.
It's just essentially voguing, that's all you do.
Basically, yes. Yes.
It was just some high spirited voguing.
Yeah. This is actually a good segue.
I was on your Instagram earlier and I saw that you saw Bendler Krem live.
Are you a huge drag race fan?
Yes. Yes, I am. Huge.
Are you like caught up with it? Do you have a favorite?
I'm not caught up with the current current season.
The last full season I made it through was All Stars four.
Oh, amazing. Are you?
I'm huge. I'm not caught up with the new.
I think I have one episode that I haven't seen,
but I came to drag race really late and then had like literally
seven seasons to watch.
And I think I watched it all in about four days.
I'm just emerged from my bedroom like hair like this.
The world makes so much more sense now.
Now, I was an early drag race fan.
I watched it in the beginning and then I I think I stopped watching
after season two and then I picked up again around season eight.
Have you met RuPaul?
Uh, no, no.
I mean, like maybe I did like kind of in passing back, but I've never
I haven't like slugged my arm around him and we haven't gone deep yet.
One day.
Oh, that would be so much fun.
It'd be so great. Oh, my gosh.
We'd be squirrel friends.
But yeah, I did get to go see Ben de la Creme, who who was gives.
It was such a such a brilliant show.
Yeah, it was his interpretation of Dante's Inferno.
And so he took you through all the layers of hell.
Yeah, but his style.
And it was it was just really, really amazing and and beautifully executed.
And yeah, I was an even bigger fan at the end.
Yeah, totally.
Now, finally, you I think are seen as like a very sweet and nice person
in real life, which is a good thing.
In this film, obviously, you're a con artist.
Yes. Not the nicest. No.
So what I want to do is give you some classically nice scenarios
and see how well you fare in real life to see how, like, nice you are.
Now, I have a question. Is this what would I do or what do I think?
What would you do? Right.
OK. Have you ever told a hairdresser that you actually hated a haircut?
Yes. You have. Yes.
That's bold. I don't think I've ever done that.
I I'm very honest.
OK. And to be fair, I wouldn't I don't really mince words.
It was when I was younger.
I would I would figure out how to say it.
I've learned how to be honest without crushing people's souls anymore.
But when I was young, I didn't know how to do that.
Thanks. I hate it.
No, it wasn't. It wasn't like that.
It was we tried really, really hard.
And at the end, he said, I just want you to be happy.
I didn't use the words. I hate it.
I just said, I'm really sorry. I'm not.
And we're just gonna have to wait for it to grow out.
And, you know, we got on with it. It was fine.
Yeah. What are you going to do?
That's what you're going to do in the end.
Have you ever smiled at someone's dog, but not smiled at the owner in the street?
I don't even I think sometimes I just don't even look at the owner.
I think I get really, really into the dog.
I don't know. I'm going to have to start clocking myself in that one.
OK. How often do you say thank you if someone holds a series of doors open for you?
I think you give one sincere thank you.
Yeah. For it. Otherwise, it just kind of it's, you know,
you run out of ways to say it.
You know, you just kind of thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. I always. Cheers.
Very much. Thank you.
You know, running out of ways to say.
Well, it's kind of like with sneezes.
Yeah. Someone very close to me sneezes like in, you know, some people like,
oh, I always sneeze in twos. This person sneezes in fourteens.
So after the third one, I just say, OK, here it is.
God bless you. Not saying it again.
That's it. Have at.
And finally, are you the person who replaces the loo roll if it runs out?
Yes, I am 100 percent that person.
I do do that. Yes. Do you? What do you do?
I do. Yeah. I think there's a loo roll at hand.
If I have to go out and like find some, then I do like being.
I think I'm I guess I am kind of sweet, but I think I'm not actually
that nice a person, but I do like to be useful.
That's good. That's a good balance.
But I don't want to hurt.
You know, I say that I'm not nice and that I can just see horrible headlines.
I have always thought, you know, I just like I just want to treat people
like they're people. Yeah.
You know, like it's I don't think it's that hard.
I just I really do love people.
And I love, you know, I don't like I'm going to meet you.
Who knows if we're ever going to meet each other again? Yeah.
But I just I just I'm really happy to be with you right now.
And even in this like time we have.
It's just yeah, it's lovely spending some time with you.
And it's easier to be good than it is to be bad as well.
And I think that sometimes we've attached so many things like good, bad,
that like we you know, that we think good is annoying and bad is fun.
But if we can kind of get away from that and it's just like decent.
Yeah. Decent is the word. Decent.
Yeah, I think I think I'm a pretty decent person, more so than a good one.
I think this is proof that you're a decent person.
Thank you very, very much.
Finally, I'm going to go out like a nun.
Finally, just on a final note, I mulled over whether to say this or not.
But once at school,
I used the final speech of Princess Diaries to try and get into a play.
What happened? I didn't get it.
Oh, no, I'm sure.
I think they were too scared of my.
It wasn't anything to do with the content.
No, no, no.
They just said, oh, we cannot yet unleash this power.
It was like they said.
They said no later on.
She's just going to burst.
Yeah, it's a bit scary.
Burst out, break out.
Amelia Mignonette, the Princess of Genovia.
Oh, that's so sweet.
Did you have sleepovers where you watched it?
Yeah, I like forced everyone to watch it.
That makes me so happy.
A lot of people tell me now they come up and they're like,
it was our sleepover movie.
Yeah, it's the perfect sleepover movie.
I'm so happy to hear that.
Well, thank you very much.
Thank you very much, it was lovely, lovely to meet you.
