Guess what we're doing today? We are going to swatch all of my foundations. For all of you,
I know there are so many people who, I'm Alex by the way if anyone is new, but like it's my
channel name so who cares, um if anyone, no not if anyone is new, all of the people,
not all of the people, a lot of you who follow me uh do so because we are a skin tone match
and uh I'm a pretty unique fair olive, warm olive, I know that I also have some fair cool olives,
I've got just like a bunch of olives watching my my ankle itches, hold on one second,
we have a lot of olive people up in here because it's a difficult skin tone to find
uh the correct products for, especially foundations, um you can be a little bit
more lenient with concealer if it's like for brightening, but foundation, it's so hard to
find a good match for olive skin. So I'm going to be swatching all of my foundations for you
so that you can get an idea of how the colors differ, uh and also I wanted to, the main reason
that I'm making this video is because AboutFace, AboutFace, AboutFace, they did it, I don't know
if you know this, AboutFace did it, okay they launched some true olive foundations, foundation
shades that are legit, okay so get ready for that, a little auric first, one second, one second,
I just need a little bit of auric first, okay so first let's just go over my skin tone a little bit,
uh so I am a fair olive, warm olive, I have green undertone and I have a pretty yellowy overtone,
skin tone has everything to do with how like the different layers of your skin and everything
underneath come together to create it, it is translucent, it's not completely opaque, you know
you see veins and shit underneath my eyes, redness, all that stuff, because olive skin has a lot of
green in it, olive hello, it can be very difficult to make a shade that is olive that doesn't end up
looking dead, because when you're looking at my skin tone you're seeing all of the colors happening
at once, and your eye is kind of taking all of these different colors, putting them together and
being like that's the skin tone, if we pick one section of my face it's not like my skin tone,
you know what I mean, so unfortunately, oh my god what was that, one foundation is one color,
right, we can't have a bunch of a million different colors, maybe someday, science, we will, doubt it,
we don't have that right now, so rolling up the sleeves, olive skin, difficult, very difficult to
not make the skin tone look extremely dead, to maintain some color that brings life to the skin
in it, so previously I have opted typically for slightly more yellow foundations, because
true olive, whether warm or cool, haven't really existed for lighter skin, typically when we do see
olive tones in foundations they're traditionally geared towards more medium skin tone, more, I
like medium tan, and a lot of fair skin tones, a lot of fair light even, for whatever reason,
brands seem, there was like a really long period of time where brands just assumed that like every
fair skin tone was cool, so things ended up being like really pink, like I said I have a lot of
yellow in my skin tone, I have yellow and green, you can really see it when you look at like the
shadows in my neck, because like our faces tend to have like a little bit more redness in general,
just like you know redness about around your nose, redness from hormones and blood vessels and all
of that stuff, when looking at my neck I don't know how well you can see it, because like some
I feel like some people can just like see color and others have a really difficult time of it,
and also you're seeing me here not in comparison to like another person, if you put me next to
another person it's apparent, it is immediately apparent that my skin tone is very like yellowy
green, so I'm not gonna make you guys wait, the first foundation I'm gonna swatch is the new
about face olive foundation, now they have like multiple olive shades for fair skin, for light
skin, for medium skin, they have like legit olive shades, now I am always so skeptical when a brand
says that they have olive shades, okay like I was actually thinking um recently I think that we
should go for a little shopping trip, um maybe like scroll through Sephora, because a few of you have
asked um like what are some tips for being able to shop these foundations online to try to find
your skin tone, I feel like I have it down for mine, uh but it can be really difficult, so let
me know if you want to see a video where we like sit down and shop together, that could be fun,
anyway so about face reached out to me when they um were launching this foundation and asked me to
choose three shades, which I'm always very like thankful when a brand does that, because like
it can be so difficult to know, so I tend to go towards more like warm um yellowy foundations,
so I chose obviously f2 olive, which is their fair olive foundation, which
I don't know how well you guys can see, but it's pretty good, uh I chose that, I chose f1 warm,
which is looks pretty decent when you have it like next to my skin, like if they didn't have
the olive one, I would be like oh interesting, actually it's a little bit fair, but it's okay,
and then I also chose l1 warm, okay so light warm, now typically in the past I would have had to mix
l1 and f1 warm, that's usually what would end up happening, uh and my skin tone is more warm,
so usually if it's at least like a little bit yellow, I can make it work, like it's it's okay,
you know, however the olive shade, we're gonna swatch this one first, now I would say that this
olive shade in my opinion is it's like right it's like in the middle of a warm olive and a cool
olive, okay so it's kind of like a in I would say neutral olive, so if you have any green in your
skin um and you have a fair skin tone, I think it would be a really really good match, look at
that, is that amazing, that's like, let me put it on my neck too, that's like the closest that I've ever
come to a foundation matching my skin tone perfectly, like are you kidding me right now,
it's really good, it's really good, you know what's actually kind of funny, this is a good
little experiment, um when I'm looking in the mirror, I don't know if this is apparent on camera,
if it's not, I'll delete it, um because I have more redness in my face, when I have the foundation
um here on my face, like when I look at this swatch, I can see more yellowy green in the shade
here, this swatch, whereas on my neck where I don't have redness, um I can see a little bit more of um
the red tone come through, do you see that, you can see like a tiny bit more of kind of like a
um just like a slight, it's literally like paint mixing paint, if I took a tiny bit of like an
orangey red and put it in, mix it in, that's what it looks like, can you see that difference,
color theory people, okay, now this is um probably the best match that I have ever found, I want to
swatch it next to L warm and, or sorry L1 warm and F1 warm for you, just in case you were
curious about the about face foundations specifically, um so this is a little bit
light, this is um F1 warm, you can see how light it is, it's very very light, the difference
definitely has way more yellow in it and far less green, let's say predominantly yellow and not
not a whole lot of green in there, and it's obviously got a lot more white, and then this is
L1 warm, okay, so much more orange, um I'm not seeing green in there, it's still obviously
yellowy, it's a little bit more like yellowy orange I would say, but look, isn't it so funny
to see this swatch, this swatch, and this swatch, it's crazy, next to each other, oh this like
almost disappears, it's incredible, so I will say just before we move on to swatching all of my
foundations, I'm going to be using the about face one since it is the closest as our benchmark,
and then we'll compare basically everything, but I just quickly wanted to say this foundation
formula is amazing, I'm obsessed, since I found or since I used the olive shade,
which one is it, this one, um since I tried the olive shade, it's all I've been using,
I don't love the doe foot, like the that thing, I usually just kind of put it out on the back of my
hand, um just like for sanitary reasons, I know I literally just like swiped it on here, I'm only
using on myself, but if you are like a professional makeup artist, then the doe foot can be kind of
annoying, uh but for like regular old use, I would just suggest if you want to keep it more sanitary,
putting it on the back of your hand and picking it up with a sponge or brush or whatever, uh but
the foundation formula is so beautiful, it's like really like satiny, uh I mean it's called the
performer, so it's meant to be long wear, and as far as I, I don't know that I've worn it like
long enough periods of time to really test that yet, but um I haven't had any problems with like
oil breaking through or anything like that, like the wear, the wearability has been fantastic,
so personally it's all I've been using since, and um I would highly recommend it just outright, okay
so about face foundation, olive is going to be our benchmark, now the uh drugstore foundation that I
was always recommending to people who are looking for an olive shade, uh who are having a really
difficult time, Revlon colorstay in the shade buff, this was my like OG foundation because it was the
closest that I could come to finding an olive foundation, especially like if it's you know
leaning a little bit more towards the warm side, so if you compare them in the bottle,
um I would argue that the about face foundation, it has more olive and it's ever so slightly more
cool-toned than buff, buff has um slightly more yellow in, like a little bit more orange I would
say, it like leans a little bit more orange, they have two different um formulas, combination oily
and then also for dry skin which is just nice, um plus it's drugstore so it's just like, I'm trying
not to put too much out, let's see how this compares, I'm gonna let it oxidize a little bit,
so it's already starting to oxidize, when I first put it down it looked quite a bit lighter than the
about face foundation, but it's slowly oxidizing and um it's getting there, it's getting actually
pretty, pretty close, pretty close, we'll see once they're all settled, so that is Revlon colorstay in
buff, another one of my favorite foundations to wear that I thought the color was like pretty good
um is the very Valentino sunscreen, sunscreen? I just looked at it and it says broad spectrum
25, so I was like sunscreen, uh this is the very Valentino foundation in LN2, right LN2? LN2,
okay so I think it's supposed to be light neutral 2, I'm still seeing that buff has a like a little
bit more yellow in it compared to about face, so here is very Valentino LN2, you can see that this
is like quite a bit lighter, uh it looks similar to L, what was it? F1, F1? Was it F1? The about
face one, so lots of yellow in this foundation, and when I compare it to um my actual skin where
you can see like the green and stuff, it's definitely like it doesn't contain that green
content, it's a slightly more, if we're talking like a color wheel, uh it slightly leans more
towards the um orange, okay so very Valentino LN, no LN2, very Valentino LN2, also scented,
just saying, beautiful formula, love, but um it's perfumed, just so you know, oh let's um we have
this one and I'm not entirely sure how it's going to compare, this is Revlon, this Revlon skin
carrying foundation, um I don't know what the name of the foundation color is, but it's 117,
now this is one that I've been meaning to try for a while, but I thought it would be too light,
I want to see how this compares to buff, it does look a little bit light and slightly more neutral,
doesn't look too bad though, actually they do oxidize, so we'll give that time to oxidize,
and I gotta stop putting them on the side of my face, or else it's gonna be really hard for me to
see what the hell's going on, uh next up is another one of my favorite skin products,
this is the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB tinted moisturizer, this one is in the shade light
ivory, or just ivory I guess, just ivory, um and this is one of my favorite, like it's got
surprising amount of coverage, um it also contains SPF, it's SPF 20, so it's not like you know really
doing that much, but it's really nice, I like it for um daytime makeup, I really love the formula,
I actually picked up a new one recently, and especially when it comes to a tinted moisturizer,
it's very difficult for me to find anything that has, I mean like olive is almost impossible,
so I always try to go for something that's got a little bit more yellow in it, like I've said,
uh but finding a yellow toned BB or BB cream or tinted moisturizer or whatever,
almost unheard of, okay, they're almost always like orange or pink, so this one was very very
close, so let's see how this compares to Very Valentino, very nice, so when I swatch this,
see how um Very Valentino has quite a bit more orange in it as compared to this, this actually
has much more green in it, it's um much closer to the About Face and the Revlon buff than Very
Valentino, which is really really nice and just like incredible for um incredible for a tinted
moisturizer, which is one of the reasons that I love it so much. Next up, I know a lot of people
are probably wondering um Lisa Eldridge, so I only have shade number three, and I know she has an
olive shade now, but I think it might be a little dark because this is slightly dark, let me look
that up, yeah, oh is it 2.5, oh that might actually be best for me, yes, oh okay, so I have shade three,
I know she launched well after, she launched 2.5, which is uh described as a light with olive
undertones, oh which might be so good, but I don't have that shade, so just keep that in mind, this
is number three, three is described as light with golden undertones, which is why I went for it at
the time, okay, so Lisa Eldridge number three, oh I'm trying so hard not to like waste huge amounts
of these foundations, okay, um I'm gonna switch over to the other side of my face because we're
running out of room over here, don't worry we'll come back to everything, but since we're hopping
over to this side, uh I want to make sure that we have our benchmark, so I'm gonna go back in with
About Face over here, boo can you stop eating Ziva's food please, you're such a scavenger,
um okay, so I want to jump to Este Double Wear Foundation, this is in 1W1 Bone, which I believe
was described as a yellowy foundation, looking at it it looks like it's got quite a bit of orange,
but we'll see, hmm yeah, I can see more um yellowy orange as compared to About Face, but let's let
those oxidize, next up Armani Luminous Silk, this one is in the shade number three, I think is a
little bit light, I usually use this to mix into foundations when I feel like I need a little more
hydration, yeah you can see that it's quite a bit lighter, um but the tone is nice, it's definitely
got that golden color, not so much olive, a little bit lighter and less orange so far, we'll let it
oxidize, then um very Valentino, okay so let's go to Smashbox Always On, because I've been using
this, this is what I've been, this is what I was using, uh I love the formula, this is what I was
using before the Performer Foundation, before I tried the olive one, uh now I had three shades
and I opted for the um lightest most yellowy one, that's what I've been using the like most often,
just bronzing up a little bit more, which is F10O, I don't really know what the, or O, F10O,
I also have F30 Neutral, which I'll swatch next to it, but you can see that it's like pretty orangey,
so I was mixing these shades to try and get like as close as possible,
um and then I just got sick of mixing and started going in with this, so this is F10O,
which is quite light and uh very yellowy, not as much orange though, you can see,
when you um put it next to the Armani Luminous Silk, you can actually see quite a bit more of
like an orangey red, um and there's slightly more just like of a true yellow in this foundation,
which is so apparent when you look at it, like it's very very yellowy, I'll throw down
F30N next to it so that you can compare, definitely much more orangey and a little bit
darker, okay next up um I'm gonna swatch the Kosas BB Burst Gel Tinted Gel Cream, this is actually
new, I haven't tried this yet, um this one is in 10, uh and it is described as very light neutral,
oh it is very light, holy shit, oh neutral, hmm let's let that oxidize because I have a feeling
that it will, but it is quite light, so this is once again very light neutral 10, number 10,
Kosas BB whatever, oh I have other ones too, apparently okay, so this is light neutral,
light cool, so this is um that same product in 12, light neutral, so we went from very light
neutral to light neutral, got more orange in there, wow do you see how Armani has oxidized,
it looks so orangey now, crazy, you really gotta let your um foundations dry down before you can
like decide um if they're a match or what's up, okay and then I have a brand new foundation,
this is Makeup Forever HD Hydra Glow, wait HD Skin Hydra Glow, this one is in the shade Y1Y06,
this is brand new, I have problems with um Makeup Forever's shades are always
kind of a miss for me, they just always end up being so orange, but let's see how they compare,
it looks very orangey, pretty similar to this guy um Lisa Eldridge so far,
but let's let it oxidize, also pretty similar to Very Valentino, see that orange tone,
maybe a little bit more orangey, there's slightly more, a little bit more yellow,
maybe a slightly more like red orange in this, it's kind of hard to tell, then I have the Shiseido
Revitalizing Skin Glow Foundation with SPF 30, this one is in the shade 120 ivory,
very liquidy, oh where am I supposed to put this, I don't know where to put this,
I'm running out of room here, just put it right down the middle,
here we'll put it here, oh it's breaking up quite a bit, why is that, this one I haven't tried,
um I asked you guys if you would be interested and I just haven't tried it because I
swatched it, this one, look at that, why why is it doing that, that's so weird,
it's making um it very difficult to see the swatch, this is one of those like um I think
skincare foundations where it's like basically a supposed to be like a serum, you know, so Makeup
Forever, do you see how incredibly orange that is, it's pretty crazy, there's a lot of orange
and that's something that I have um noticed about a lot of warm warm foundations, uh they tend to
just look end up looking really orange on people, um and I know that that is a criticism that I get
a lot, especially from people who have olive skin, so let's just go down the line here,
these I'll be honest with you, these are a little bit tough for me to see, so if I say anything
incorrect I'll try to correct it in post, so this is um, where is it, Revlon, where'd you go,
so this is 117, Revlon 117, which doesn't doesn't look too bad, especially as far as value goes,
it's like pretty close to the value of my skin, it does have a little too much orange in it,
um but I feel like I could possibly get away with it if I was deciding to use this as a foundation,
it's not too bad, I remember when I looked at it that's one of the reasons that I
held on to it was because I was like, oh that color looks like it could be pretty decent,
obviously Revlon buff, which is so close, it's actually really good when I'm seeing it next to
the about face foundation, um because it does have a little bit more yellow in it
than the about face one, the about face you can kind of see they're slightly more,
god damn it's so hard for me to see this, maybe I should all insert a photo in um natural light,
oh yeah it's so much easier for me to see over here, damn that makeup forever foundation is
really breaking up, that stuff's like shit, I'm gonna give you a still of this, all right so I'm
looking at it in um more natural light, so the uh just like over here by my window, so the um 117
pretty good, like I said the slightly more orange, it stands, stands there, um slightly more like
yellowy orange, Revlon color stay in buff, very nice, very very close, uh in fact I feel like it's
giving about face a run for its money, I would say about face leans slightly more cool toned olive,
so if you are a um fair cool toned olive, then you might want to check out this shade,
I personally think that both of them are really good, um especially for being just like uh you
know just a solid color, because they are just a solid color, so in terms of um color match,
uh honestly these three right here are pretty good, but I feel like the about face performer
and Revlon color stay, real real nice, uh again about face that is um fair olive, wait fair one,
wait one f1 olive, then we have very Valentino foundation, which oh my god look at that,
um it's quite a bit like yellowy, like a light uh yellowy orange shade, it's not the end of the
world, but it's definitely not, I mean it's kind of shocking actually to see, uh there's absolutely
no green in there, you can really really see that there's like a lot of um of orange, oh right um
so it's actually kind of funny in the studio light, my uh ivory, ivory tart looks a little bit
better than, it looks closer to my skin tone than the way that it has actually settled and oxidized,
it's actually quite a bit orange, it's not like the worst orange, but it's actually a lot darker
than I uh had previously noticed, I think um yeah you can see like a darker kind of yellowy orange
in that shade, uh which for a bb cream isn't the end of the world, I would rather a bb cream be
slightly dark than too light, but uh but yeah it's definitely um definitely not a perfect match,
the Lisa Eldridge foundation is actually quite similar to um very Valentino, it's a little bit
darker and it's got slightly more, yeah it's just a little bit darker, but you can see that they
both have that kind of like yellowy orange shade to them, I would be super interested in trying 2.5,
um I feel like that would be a much closer match, so let me know, should I get that?
You guys think I should get that? This Makeup Forever foundation, I mean are you freaking
kidding me? Listen, I got a lot of, I got a lot of problems with Makeup Forever, this is so
incredibly orange, like so incredibly orange, it doesn't have any gold in it, it's just orange,
you know, like straight up, I mean what else can you say? The Shiseido foundation is actually like
not terrible, it's definitely like a a decent ivory color, it's not too orange, not too yellow,
it is just like a little bit too light for my skin tone, um and I don't know why it's breaking up so
much on my nose, that's kind of bothering me. Okay, so on this far end here, we have um the
Smashbox foundations, we have obviously the slightly more yellow, well the much more yellow
toned foundation, which is um what was it? F100, uh you can see very yellow, um not terrible for
my skin tone, like pretty decent, it's definitely high, it's definitely leaning much more towards
like the yellow in my skin, but it's not too orange, which is always what I'm trying to avoid.
Next to that, we have the F30N, which is just straight up orange, I mean it's like very, very,
very orange, um and a little bit darker, it's it's closer in value to my skin tone, I think,
which is why I was mixing these shades, it wasn't completely horrible when I mixed them,
um but yeah, definitely way too orange. Okay, then next to um, obviously we have the About Face
foundation in the center of my cheek, then we have our Moniluminous Silk, which is in between
Smashbox and About Face, which is too light, it's definitely too light, um it's not terrible, it's
like slightly more on the neutral side, there isn't a ton of yellow in it, it's definitely a little bit
more neutral, I would say just slightly too light for my skin tone, uh and then we have Estee
Double Wear, which is actually quite a bit orange, um it's not, it's not like so orange, it's not as
bad as the Makeup Forever one, um it's a little bit more of a yellowy orange, uh it's not completely
terrible when you look at it next to About Face, but you can definitely see that that orange is
really like standing out, especially next to the Olive foundation, then we have the Kosas BB Cream,
wait Kosas, what's this shit called, yeah BB whatever, this is number 10, which is just very
light, not a horrible color, um especially when I compare it to um the Tarte one, like if I mix those
actually it could be quite nice, uh just very very light, um but the tone is actually quite nice,
it's kind of like a pale yellow, um and then we have number 12, which is slightly more um on the
Olive side, I would say maybe ever so slightly too cool toned, uh I would say that this is more
neutral and not so orange, because when we compare it to Makeup Forever and also the Smashbox uh F30N,
it definitely has way less of that um, way less of that orange in it, so if you are a, I would say
maybe slightly more cool toned Olive, that's like fair to light, uh that would actually be like a
pretty decent shade for you, dude can we figure out what the hell is going on with this Makeup
Forever foundation down here, what are you doing, what are you doing, why are you breaking up like
that, uh all right guys that's it for this video, I just wanted to do a swatch video, I know a lot
of people have been asking for that, I'm going to insert some photos of all of these swatches in
natural light, uh that I was describing from, because you know lighting makes a difference,
you know, natural light, studio light, whatever, everything ends up looking like a little bit
different, so my main advice, my main piece of advice that I always give to people who don't know
their skin tone, don't know how, don't know even where to begin, go to a Sephora, go to an Ulta,
um can you swatch stuff at like CVS, if there are testers at drugstores, wherever you're going,
wherever you want to pick up your foundation, your concealer, whatever it might be, swatch
everything on your neck, you can do, if you have like an even skin tone, you can do the inside of
your arm, uh to make it easier, you're just trying to get as close as possible, you know, let it sit,
let it oxidize, okay, because like, like we learned from Tarte over here, uh you gotta let it sit,
you gotta let it oxidize, and damn man, I just bought a brand new one of those, anyway, let it
oxidize, go outside, leave the store, leave the store, okay, obviously maybe write like a little
note down in your phone to remember which one is which, go outside and take a look at them in
natural light, all right, because the Sephora lighting is horrendous, it is so bad, it's so bad,
uh like if you've ever gone, like you know how they have like the lighting on the display, if
you ever try to like put your arm like under something to be like, oh what, what uh tone is this,
nah, okay, it's it, it's lies, it's all lies, go outside, see what is the closest, you might not be
able to get it perfect, but we're trying to get as close as possible, okay, that is a shame, that's
just a damn shame, don't forget to let me know if you want to see a little shopping, online shopping
video, where we um, where we go through to try and find maybe just like olive shades in general,
look at swatches, how I'm able to like pick my shades online, because I feel like I've got them,
uh let me know, I'm not going to do a question at the end of this video, because I feel like I just
talked so much, and I need just a tiny little break, uh but I hope that this was helpful, thank
you so much for watching, if you are anywhere near my skin tone, I hope that this answered some
questions for you, uh whether you've been interested in any of these foundations, because I've talked
about all of them at least once, um except for like the very brand new ones, I don't think I've
said anything about this so far, but orange, yeah dude, hopefully this helped you get on the track,
uh to finding a, okay, so I have a space that's forming between my two front teeth,
and that's not okay, I think I finally need to do an invisible line, anyway subscribe and comment
and whatever, do all the things that help me out, leave a thumbs up, uh if you do like this content,
because it really just helps, it just helps, I'm gonna wash my face now, and I'll see you in the
