This is the Independent Living Ready-Made Lesson Plan for students in grades 9 to 12,
special needs students, ESL students, and adults who are struggling with practical life skills,
full of real-world scenarios to help everyone to better understand what is needed to live
on their own. Sixty pages of content, within six chapters, make up the bulk of this unit.
We also include an assessment rubric, a critical thinking skills rubric, and a vocabulary list.
Every chapter has a before-you-read section to see what learners already know about the topic,
ideal for differentiated learning. Learners will understand the difference between renting
and buying a home, then become familiar with the expenses associated with living alone.
The reading passage has a simplified reading level of grade 3 and point to real-world scenarios.
Get to know bus routes to determine the fastest way to get around.
The after-you-read sections include short and long questions for comprehension,
followed by a graphic organizer. Learners get to know proper food handling tips,
then find out how saving energy will save money. The hands-on activities are extension activities
designed to get your students thinking and elaborating on everything they have learned so
far. Differentiated comprehension skills are measured by a crossword and word search puzzle,
then a three-part comprehension quiz. The easy marking answer key works by lining up perfectly
with the matching question pages. Six color mini posters completes the resource.
Have a plan in action in case of a fire. Independent living is just one resource of
a three-part series on practical life skills. Visit our website to see managing money
and employment and volunteering.
