100MPH HIGH SPEED PURSUIT driver's HOOD POPS OPEN! PIT Maneuver ends it/driver back flips off bridge
Trooper's Report:
Narrative:
While stationary on the right shoulder facing west on Southland Drive, I observed a gray sedan turning from Ingram Boulevard
onto Southland Drive with a defective headlight. As the vehicle passed my location heading east, I safely turned around and
initiated a traffic stop by activating my blue lights. The vehicle pulled onto the shoulder, and I reported the stop to dispatch.
Upon closer observation, I noted the vehicle lacked a proper license plate and displayed a white sticker with numbers on it.
Additionally, the right tail lamp was defective. As I exited my patrol vehicle and approached the suspect vehicle, it suddenly
accelerated, attempting to evade me.
Shortly after fleeing, the vehicle’s hood flew open, obstructing the driver’s view. The suspect began driving into oncoming
traffic, disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Southland Drive and Martin Luther King Drive, when suspect turned right
on Southland Drive it followed other vehicles too closely, nearly colliding with a semi-truck. The suspect then drove over a
raised median and entered the I-40 East entrance ramp near the 281-mile marker.
The driver continued evasive maneuvers, including brake-checking and weaving across lanes, endangering other motorists.
For public safety, I performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), causing the vehicle to spin to the right across two lanes
before striking a concrete wall.
After completing the TVI, I drove past the suspect vehicle, turned around, and observed the driver sitting on the bridge wall. As
I approached, the driver climbed over the wall and fell approximately 35 feet to the ground below. Upon reaching the driver,
Trooper Evans witnessed the driver lying unconscious but momentarily regaining consciousness and standing. He was
instructed by the Trooper to sit back down on the ground. Trooper Evans then advised dispatched that medical attention was
needed for the suspect.
Upon further investigation, I ran the vehicle’s VIN and discovered it was unregistered and uninsured.
The driver (Mario Biggs) was later identified through the vehicle’s passenger (Andreka Dixon),
who was taken into custody without incident, released shortly after being interviewed and checked out by Crittenden EMS.
Dixon complained of injuries but refused to be transported. The driver was transported to Regional One hospital for treatment
and further evaluations.
