I got recently asked by someone what influenced the way I dress today.
As some of you might know I lived in Paris for many years
and now when I look back I think that these years
had definitely a great impact on me as an individual
but also on my personal style and the way I dress.
So I would like to share a few style lessons that I picked up
during my life in Paris.
Effortless elegance is key. The Parisian style philosophy
revolves around looking polished without appearing like you've tried too hard.
It's all about combining well-chosen pieces to look chic yet natural.
Simplicity is the most sophisticated choice.
In Paris it's all about sticking to neutral shades
such as black, grey, beige, white. This makes it so easy to mix and match
ensuring that your job is always cohesive.
Parisians tend to invest in high quality items, fabrics and craftsmanship.
A great tool coat, a well-made handbag or leather shoes can elevate an entire look.
The preference is to own fewer pieces that are timeless and long-lasting
rather than indulging in fast fashion and to be completely honest
I've been always surprised how my friends can afford
such a nice blazer or bag when we were students
and in fact those items quite often belong to their mothers, grandmothers
and you know they pass it from one generation to another
and I was like wow that's incredible. I think this is something that we
definitely should learn from. What I've noticed is that many French
women have so-called uniform, a goatee look they
feel confident in whether it's high-waisted jeans or a
blazer, belly flats or a chic black dress. So in the end it's
really about knowing what suits you the best
and wearing it with confidence and my channel is all about that.
If you haven't subscribed yet hit this button
right now. So the next style lesson is my favorite one
is embracing imperfection and actually imperfection can be stylish.
A slightly messy bun or half tucked shirt can add an element of relaxed charm
and I really like the French idea of beauty which is embracing your natural
features rather than striving for perfection.
What I really found interesting is that Parisians keep
comfort and practicality on the top of their mind.
They dress for their lifestyle and do not really think too much about
what others might think. If you have traveled to Paris you have definitely
noticed that a lot of women wear flats and loafers
rather than pumps and heels or any other kind of shoes
that might be not so comfortable. Dressing the way that suits your
lifestyle is definitely the lesson I picked up
and listening to what you really need rather than you know following the
fashion trends is the key to finding your personal
style. Accessories should be minimal yet
impactful. A beautiful scarf, a single statement
necklace or a pair of sunglasses can transform an outfit.
It's important to choose accessories that add touch of personality
but avoid overloading and you should know
by now that confidence elevates any outfit
and ultimately it's all about owing your look with pose
regardless of what others might think and it definitely resonates with me.
Another style lesson that I really love and I think it
influenced a lot the way I dress is that casual can be actually
chic and I think Parisians master this balance between
casual and chic. For example they pair a jeans with a nice
silk blouse and then a blazer or a simple sweater with a skirt to create
a stylish laid back look while sneakers and loafers
can be chic when paired with tailored trousers or structured coat.
Layering is an essential skin for Parisian weather
but I also think it's such an amazing way to make the outfits more personal.
Layering can definitely add an interest to any outfit
even the most simple one. Another lesson that I picked up
is that small details make a huge difference.
The way you roll your sleeve, the way you tuck your shirt
or cuff your jeans can subtly change the overall
look of the outfit. Vintage shows are a treasure
store in Paris offering unique pieces that can add
character to your wardrobe. I really love how they mix
vintage and contemporary pieces to create a truly authentic outfit that is
very interesting and I was really curious to discover
some interesting pieces that served me as inspiration for my
custom items that I regularly design with dress art Paris.
So yeah if you have time get lost in vintage shops in Paris and I
guess there is just only one expression how to describe
nice balance between elegance, simplicity
and personal touch and it's je ne sais quoi.
