So it'll be a big big walkway, big circumviewing area here, house at the end
and yeah just if we start the ponds it'll be beautiful. You're here by summer really so
yeah hopefully get it done by then. So we're going to start working here I think in about
four weeks I think. There'll be some cutting back starting soon but yeah probably about
four weeks before we properly start. Yeah should be nice, a bit of work to do. Hi I'm Yaz, I'm the
head keeper here at Peak and I've just brought you into our new red panda habitat to show you around
and just show you what we're doing to get ready for our new arrivals. Come on let's go. So today
we've just been basically tidying up and making sure that it's all safe for the pandas. We've had
a little bit of work going on just getting ready for them so putting a few paths in,
getting their houses and shelters all ready with our wonderful builders and then the keepers have
just been tidying up getting ready for the pandas coming in so we're removing all the tools making
sure that's all safe. Just last little minute bits for you guys so making sure everything's
clean and tidy the windows are clean so you can see our wonderful red pandas when they arrive into
their new habitat. So I'll show you a little bit more in detail if you want to follow me.
So this area here has just been designed so we can get a little bit closer to the red pandas
so we can put scales here and we can wear the red pandas or we can do some training which will be
really fun. So we've got two areas so the pandas can be separate and this fantastic little bamboo
bridge that Mike has made for us with his wonderful building skills I'm sure you're all aware of them
and then this will go off for two different areas so you can see if you look right down here there's
a lovely big bamboo walkway for our pandas and we've built them a nice little feeding area so
should they choose to they can sit up there and have a look at you guys when you come to visit
which will be really nice. So we have another red panda shelter here is a similar concept we've got
a nice big hatch here that we can open up and this is lovely and cool in here when I put my hand in
it's nice and cool which is perfect for the pandas. Again a little hatch here so we can check on them
and clean them a nice big area if we want to have a lovely lie down and a little bit of a nap in.
Hi guys I'm Rhys senior keeper at Peak Wildlife Park
today is a very exciting day for us here at the park we've been lucky enough to welcome our second
red panda Raya. She's come here to join her sister Isha all the way from Paynton Zoo.
Second they came out of the crate two very different reactions Isha a little bit more
shy and a bit reserved took her a little bit of time to come out the crate found a tree got comfy
Raya a completely different story.
Second that crate door opened straight out straight onto the floor wandering around checking
out all the new areas eventually making her way up into the trees and after a little bit of time
eventually recognised her sister Isha from the other end of the tree. A quick introduction and
then she's gone straight back to exploring again. So sadly red pandas are endangered and their
numbers are declining in the wild so this is mostly due to habitat loss climate change or
even poaching of the red pandas which is really really sad because they're such amazing animals
so us having them here means that we're contributing to global efforts to sustain that
population carry out research and just do all we can for red pandas in the wild which is really
really exciting to be a part of.
