WHY WE ARE LEAVING LA | when, where, & why we are moving

Not bad, just sad. As exciting as all of it is, it's just, we're still really sad to like leave our friends. It makes it really hard because How do you do it? What? Let's just jump into it Welcome back guys to our channel If you just stumbled upon this video, i'm tori This is my hubby. I'm the husband. My name is chad if you cared I always say my hubby and I think you're gonna say chad and then you don't I'm the awkward one Well boy do we got a story for you Yeah, we do have a big old story for you. If you click this video you want the details the when the where The what The what oh gosh So if you watched our last video on our big life update you found out that we are building a home but we kind of wanted to share with you guys the entire story of how We got there. Yeah, because we didn't just get there The way that you got here You know, you know what I mean Like we didn't get there the way they got here the way we're the way they're perceiving that we got here. I don't know Okay. Anyways, well if you didn't know chad and I are actually originally from We live in los angeles currently. Did you just give away where we're moving? Oh shoot Okay, so seriously to get to the stories that this video is not forever long So it was a chilly november day and we had our friends in from the netherlands They're dutch and well, he's she's dutch and their baby's dutch, but he's from orlando florida And they're the cutest little family and so they were in la visiting us And then I booked a last minute job in miami florida. And so to maximize my time Uh with them I took a red eye flight Which if you don't know that it means I took an overnight flight and I landed in miami at like 6 00 a.m I worked that whole day and I flew back that night. So I was really Was it atlanta? It was atlanta. But anyways, same same. I think it was atlanta anyways So I was there working and I come back and i'm exhausted because I didn't really sleep on the flight I can't sleep on planes very well. Okay, and then i'm here with charlotte and They have a little baby they've been here for a while You know how girls their hormones tend to kind of sync up do they? Yes, so I was Seven days late. I was like oh I'm for sure pregnant early bird gets the worm. I I was I like had fully convinced myself that I was pregnant Was talking to charlotte every day. She's like you're you're pregnant And so but I wasn't gonna take a test until chad got home because I didn't want to find out you know without him and I kind of brought it up at a bad time so Getting to the punch line. I landed at like 11 p.m La time and I hadn't slept in like 24 hours and I was just tired and she picks me up from lax Which you know is never if you know, it's never a stress less experience Lax is the armpit of los angeles the worst And so she picks me up and we're driving up to four or five and she's like can I talk to you about something i'm like Right now Like right this second. Yes Okay, and then she looks at me and she's like I think we need to take a pregnancy test something like that Yeah, and I was not ready to receive that I was ready for her to tell tell me wow. You're a great husband wow, I just like I want to kiss you all the time, but now It like it was like I was not ready. So his response was Literally. Well, are you ready to move back? to florida So that's the where by the way, so that's the where of where we're moving Yeah, I honestly was like super bitter because if you watch our whole love story series, I moved from florida to la To be with him and i'm like I uprooted my life. I came here. I love it. Now i'm planted I love my community and now you want to leave I was very confused. I just pictured you as a plant Have you ever seen you know in harry potter whenever they have like this screaming little plants and like they have to uproot them Then they start screaming. That's what I pictured you guys right now Anybody who's a harry potter fan knows what i'm talking about. It's pretty bad Babe you're getting embarrassed, baby Oh So fast forward in a little bit she did not receive my comment Well, and honestly, I probably shouldn't have said that I that was that was a that was a not a smart Thing that I that's not the smartest thing i've ever said at all. Anyways, fast forward months later we are actually headed to florida at a job in miami and Covid hit and my job got canceled in miami, but we decided to still go we were going to see family etc And we were on the flight over there and I just realized that I was actually getting very I don't want to say bitter but I was holding on to la very tightly to where I was like I'm, not ready to leave. I I I I I very like selfish tori and i'm like I want to be here and I was holding la with a very closed fist And the lord's like you can't hold anything that tightly. I need you to be available forever I'm calling you to go whether that's to stay in la or not and I was like, oh gosh Okay, so I remember praying on the way there to be like, okay god If this is something you have for chad and I's future just soften my heart towards it. Let me have eyes to see You here and i'm still thinking two years from now not anytime soon and we end up getting to florida and We extended our trip because covid hit pretty bad. Well, our flights got canceled and then we were able to rebook them so we heard la was was really like it was yeah, it was really hit hard and Our friends could barely get to the grocery stores and tori and I We because we travel a lot. We don't have a ton of groceries at home Yeah, and so we were just nervous that okay Like let's let's wait it out in florida for a week And see kind of what happens because this is right as everything's just happening and we were It's probably better to be close to family and stuff like that yeah, everything was closing and so tori and I didn't have much to do but to talk to each other and just surf the interwebs So if you guys know la is not the cheapest city to live in in the world and chad was like, babe You should just look at zillow and see if you were to take our rent And and basically apply it to a mortgage with tax and insurance and different things like that. What could we afford? in florida in florida and then I got on zillow and I was like Oh My plan worked perfectly. Okay Like wow, it took like like zero seconds, that's not true. No, it took like 45 seconds. No, that's also not true It took like 30 minutes babe That's probably pretty true well I was like in I was like in shock at like what we quote unquote could afford in florida But I still was like i'm not moving just because we can you know have a bigger living area I love our apartment. This has to be a god thing if it is but then I was on zillow and i'm like babe Did you know that we could literally just schedule a tour of houses and we love doing that? That's how we've like made friends in la by going in. Yeah House tours. I think we maybe mentioned that in another video But one time i'll say it really quickly one time tori visited me in california before she lived here And we saw this open house. That was like a I don't know Maybe a 2.4 million dollar property and we walked in there like we could afford it and we we can't Divide that by a lot. Okay. Yeah, and so, um, so we go in there and we're acting like oh It's a bit small and long story short. I end up telling the realtor that like no we can't afford this We just wanted to see what it's like to be in like a really really big beautiful home And now he's one of my close friends. Yeah, shout out kevin. Yeah, he just had a baby. Congrats kevin anyways, we just booked this random tour of this home and Lo and behold the realtor who was randomly assigned to us On zillow there were so many connections with him. It was insane. It was wild different types of connections Yeah, so, you know that they say that everyone is like seven degrees apart from each other. Have you ever heard that? Yeah, we were like 0.1 degree from him with every all with all the connections that we had which is just wild It really was nuts. And so we walk into this home and it's a beautiful home But chad and I have very particular tastes so we were like we love it But we would tear down all the walls and we would renovate the kitchen and our entire budget would go into renovations Did you just quote sean mendez particular taste? Is that how his song goes? So anyways, we go into this home we see it it's beautiful He's like I have another home and the cul-de-sac if you guys want to see that we're like, okay And we go into this other house and we're like, okay people make some interesting decisions Yeah, so on one hand we're like wow, this home is awesome. The other hand we're like It was just laid out You know strangely decisions people make decisions So we walk out of this house and the guy is like have you guys ever thought about building? and we were like Not really because we to be honest with you This is probably far in the future and we're just really trying to wrap our heads around, you know, even the thought of coming Back to florida and we were like, but it's funny you mentioned that because when we were on zillow We noticed that a couple of the homes we actually just really love were all built by the same person Yeah, and he was like, oh who is that? And we told him he's like, oh that's what I was gonna suggest for you guys And he was like I just happen to have the code for his model home And we're like, of course you do And so at this point we're friends he just like hops in the jeep with us and we drive over to this development Which is all built by the same guy and so they're all beautiful custom homes We drive in and we're like, oh no way we can you know afford this. Yeah, this is not realistic But it's fun to do. Yeah, it's so fun. We love looking at houses. And so so we pull i'm gonna share some I get so excited. This part is really important to me. It is Something you should know about me is i'm an experienced person like for me if i'm cooking for somebody i'm so The food matters, but the the experience with that person matters the conversation that's happening Like i'm i'm really into an experience and just rewinding back a little bit Tori and I were planning my birthday for this year and it was actually gonna be a really big birthday It's my 30th and we were gonna go on the 30th. Yeah, it's my golden year, you know 30 on the 30th of july And so we were gonna go to italy and I wanted this specific memory I wanted this specific moment and experience where we're sailing from the amalfi coast to sardinia italy And I just jump off a sailboat and it's just like I want that moment, right? I want it Okay, so i'm just just keep that in your head. I'm an experienced guy covid hit that got canceled I'm i'm kind of bummed so we walk into this model home and we open the door It's a huge door and I take is I walk a few feet forward and I take my cell phone wallet keys And my little baby hands and I put them on the catch-all table as you walk in the house I take a few more steps forward and I look back and i'm like Oh gosh I only do that when i'm comfortable I only like empty my pockets of everything and set it somewhere whenever i'm somewhere i'm comfortable and I was like, oh This is not good because i'm very comfortable here Yeah, and so we just were in awe I wish I had like a full video tour I could show you of this model home But we're so excited to show you, you know what we have envisioned Yeah, but we walked around and I think what really astounded us was this beautiful home The mortgage was less than our rent. Yeah, and we were like Yeah It's kidding. Yeah out the door. It'll be less than what we're paying for our, you know apartment apartment in los angeles And so for us because quarantine is hitting we're working more online like through youtube or instagrams and social media where Primarily we're making money through modeling, but nobody's doing photo shoots. Everyone's everyone's canceled everything And so now that we're kind of in the back of our heads is like wow We're we're now earning the bulk of our income via online and we don't need to really be anywhere specific like los angeles Or new york or something And so we're looking at the model home and we're in love but we're also kind of like, uh, you know Who knows i'm thinking like second second kid Yeah, you know who knows if we could ever do that? And so we're walking out of the house and then he gets in the jeep with us Yeah, he gets in the jeep with us and he's like do you guys want to just look at the whole neighborhood? Because all the homes are different preface this as well. There's three different phases to this Development of this neighborhood phase one was like built and people are living in phase two All the lots were drawn out and had deposits on and we're starting to build and then phase three he was still Getting approval from the city and like waiting to you know, have the lots available. Yeah, and so we start driving around and lo and behold The builder developer just happens to be standing outside on one of the lots Yeah, he's just standing there like telling the tree guys what and by the way tor and I are looking rough by the way Oh, yeah, I just left a gym class. I look like i'm 16 years old and then i'm wearing like some sweat shorts you know because it's florida and you can't wear sweat pants and um And so we roll up into this beautiful nice neighborhood and we're seeing this builder who's incredibly professional and like hard working and things And we're just like ha we're interested in this neighborhood establishment Yeah But he's so kind. Yeah loves the lord just like a stand-up guy took the time I mean, I can't even how many houses he's building like right now and he like wanted to get to know us Which meant a lot the next day we go to this church that I I love love love I've had a connection with for for years and uh, chad hadn't met the pastor and his wife yet And so after the service, this was the last service that they had before covid, you know Shut down all the churches and we're talking to them. They're meeting chad. We're just having a great time and lo and behold that same day They broke ground on building a home in the same neighborhood, which is crazy we were like So people that tori's been connected to with for years Are really admired just broke ground to build in the same neighborhood. And so we were just like, oh Oh, okay. Something's happening. I was like, okay jesus Right, and then you're trying to tell me then the next day. I think it was the next day. Yeah Yeah, tori and I were walking around this lake It's a big beautiful lake and we were you know It's so much fun to walk around and then who do you think we bump into while we're walking on the lake praying about this decision Yeah, we're talking about decision. We're just like do you think we could do this, you know, and then lo and behold the builder and his marathon running outfit comes running up by us and we're like I know He's like have y'all thought about it and we're like We're literally having a conversation right now, it's nice of you to drop by So tori and I we end up finally coming back to la once it's cooled off a little bit And we're thinking about this opportunity and we're praying about it, but we also don't even know if we would qualify Yeah, you know i'm like i'm literally youtubing how to buy a home how to build a home how to you know What are our credit scores need to be i'm like this is all new to us Like we've never done anything like this And so i'm just doing a ton of research and then um the builder introduces me to the lender that he recommends people go with and of course the lender is the bank right and so I have a phone call with her and I don't know if any of you have seen the movie the accountant With ben affleck. It's it's a pretty cool movie It's where ben affleck is kind of like actually like a hitman disguised as an accountant But he like he's a good guy, I believe and so in that movie There's a part where ben affleck is helping an older couple with their taxes And he like he basically leads them on a path to realizing that that they're going to do better than what they thought they're going to Do and so while i'm on the phone with this lender i'm expressing to her that like i'm a little upset because To put 20 down on to build a home is a lot of money and before tori and I got married We paid off all of our debts and we also our first year of marriage. We didn't save a ton of money We were we weren't saving for a home. Yeah, we're like limit it up Yeah, if if we wanted to go to mexico for a week We went to mexico if we wanted to go to new york with friends We went to you know, and we do not regret that at all however, it turns out that the way that the lending system works is that If we would have not paid off our debts and just kept that big chunk of money. We would be more qualified more qualified to start this thing and so I was kind of let down because I'm like a very dave ramsey type of guy and i'm like I thought I was doing a good job by paying off all the debts and by minimizing our liabilities and stuff like that But anyways, so i'm having a conversation with her and she literally just leaves a cookie crumb trail Bread crumb cookie crumb. I like sweets. She likes carbs. It is what it is. Okay, just you know, and so cookie bread Oh my gosh Do people make that like chocolate chocolate bread chocolate chip bread Is that what cookie bread is? Anyways, that's a cake a cake is cookie bread, right? Because think about it a cookie is awesome and sweet and delicious And then do you have cake? Okay Basically this this lender let out a little crumb trail that that led us to believe that. Oh, wow We can actually do this. She was super sweet. She was very understanding and then it became real We were like, oh shoot the builder also was sending us emails that The phases or the lot in phase three could be coming available in the next couple weeks And so we were like, oh dang This is sooner than we thought because I was personally thinking it'd be another six to seven months before lots were available But when he sent that email I was like, okay god, I really need to I really need to pray and I have my prayer journal here because it honestly is so crazy I was journaling and having my devotional time that morning and I got really convicted about the line Well, i'll believe it when I see it And god's like hashtag thomas. Yeah in the bible and god's like No, I want you to believe it before you see it I want your faith to go before you and I was like dang that's a little harder and so I was journaling Let me find it makes me think of whenever thomas the the greatest skeptic Whenever he had heard that jesus had risen and he was just like i'll believe it when I see it paraphrasing And then jesus appeared and offered him to put his you know His finger through the hole in his hand where the nail had been And thomas just I think he dropped down to his knees and said my lord. My god It's crazy. Yeah, I said dear heavenly father. I want to believe before I see so today i'm trusting you To open up a lot for chad and I to build our future home on I believe you can and you will I want my faith to go before me That was on a thursday morning in my head. I was like in the next two days I so wish I would have actually like written that down in my journal but in my head I said in the next two days, which was like Very bold because we didn't know it could have been two three weeks before bots became available in phase three and the next day Chad gets an email from the builder that said a previously sold lot in phase two just happens to become available and so Legitimately like the next page in my journal i'm like i'm so In awe of you you opened up a lot. I love when you show up and show off. Dang. That was fast And that was like the sign that I needed because I mean i'm talking this page to this page, yeah, it's wild wild Yeah, I love that story a lot And so He basically, you know, he's a busy guy the builder, okay And he basically sent over a contract for the lot right then and there and i'm like, oh so We're doing this. Here we are So tory and I went and got um a certified check to put a deposit on the lot and we mailed a little letter To him and we put a deposit on the lot Contingent upon seeing the lot. Yeah, okay So tory and I booked a flight back to florida to go see this lot And as we're journeying over to florida, we get this call From our manager andrew, which i'm sure you're gonna hear from him and see a lot more of him Hopefully in the future. I am andrew's like well, I just had a cool call and i'm like You're gonna make me ask You're really gonna make me ask just tell me And uh, and he's just like I just had a great Uh, I had a great conversation with the brand that potentially wants to partner with the home builds and we're like what? Come again, you know like say it one more time for me for the people in the back actually And he said yeah, it's there's a client that potentially wants to help partner with the build and we don't know what that looks like we don't know if it looks like paint or roofing or Trees or flooring lighting. We don't know. We don't know what that looks like. Okay at all. However, anything helps Anything else? Okay So like and subscribe to this video I'm kidding. You don't have to do that. So tori and I are visiting the lot And we like it a lot And sorry, I can't help myself. What is wrong with me? I don't know So we're talking to the builder about this opportunity to partner with a brand or a few and he's just like oh, that's fine Yeah, so when do you guys think you're gonna end up moving here and we're like, well, we need to think about it You know, we gotta see what we can work out because we're still in the lease here and our ally friends didn't even know Any of this yet? Nobody knew any of this remember so we visited the lot like in june We're filming this video in june. Okay. Yeah, so all this is so you guys are getting like live updates and so We didn't tell anybody but just you know, our manager our manager family. Yeah in our family, right? And so this was getting real really real real real fast Well, so we're talking to the builder we're like well you know, maybe we're thinking like September october or something like that and he's just like well depending on what you're looking for in your budget I know a guy who's running out part of a duplex which if you don't know what that is It's a house with two sides to it, right? And the other side is brand new and it's down the street from here Maybe like five ten minutes and if you want to go check it out, I have the code for it So we went over there. Yeah, he has everything. Okay, so we went over there and checked it out and we love the spot It's so cool. It's cute. It's cute Um, it's peaceful all the all the good things and and it's a lot less than our rent here So we'll be able to save some money as well and then it was like oh gosh, so Do we do this? well, and we were like Okay, this is this is great Who says he's going to be willing to like hold this for us while we go back to la and pack up everything and tell? Our friends and yeah, it's a whole nine yards to be honest. Tori and I can't afford to pay double rent for june july August september, you know, we can't do that depending on when and so we end up getting the email back when we express our interest That he was willing to hold the apartment until august Which for us is great, which is amazing because it helps us a ton Yeah, and that would allow us some time to get here and pack up and tell everyone Which is really hard. Yeah, that's been really hard. It's been really sad uh Yeah, that that one's been uh, the that's been not the fun part at all. Yeah so that's the win and Well, the win is we will officially be in florida by august the where is florida That's as specific as we're gonna get right now and the why is because this entire god story just Happened. Yeah, so quickly and I it sounds sad But I don't think we can fully express to you how these things have unfolded since march and how Every time we came to like a hurdle we felt like just god just lift us up and put us on the other side Not that it's been you know stressless or anything But it just like it feels like every single door that we're walking through is already open for us and like I was talking to I was talking to a buddy about it yesterday and He was just like yeah Well, it seems like walking through an open door is a lot easier than walking through a closed door And I was like that's deep and funny at the same time Yeah, so this is happening really soon we're packing up we're taking a fun road trip back to florida um for my birthday and Yeah, and then we don't have any fun suggestions of where we should stop along the way. Yeah, because that they've been some super hard conversations And not bad It's just we're still really sad to like leave our friends it makes it really hard because I'm sure you've heard us express this before and it's you know And if you feel this way then awesome because it's exactly how we feel in la there's not that many like adults and families There's a lot of there's a lot of just like young people out here And so because of that you stick as close as family and so it feels like we're leaving our family And so that that makes it really sad and really hard um, baby It's sad. There's been some tears But it's a really happy story You okay, you sure you're okay babies, let me get that tear for you So That's the story We're gonna keep you updated along the whole process.
