Australia hosted the 'St Ives Medieval Faire' in Sydney where 'Knights' in armour battle each other wearing 40 kilogrammes of armour and carrying a lance while riding a horse. The participant at this medieval jousting tournament has to break his opponent's lance or shoulder shield, or unseat him in order to score points. Many of the competitors have had years of training. The annual competition is in its third year and attracts enthusiasts from all over the world.
Wearing 40 kilograms of armor, carrying a lance while riding a horse,
it's safe to say jousting isn't Charles' play.
Each night at Sydney St. Ives Medieval Fair attempts to break his opponent's lance
or shoulder shield or unseat him in order to score points.
Many of the competitors, like professional jouster Luke Binks, have had years of training.
There's a lot of skill and a lot of time that goes into
managing that lance while riding the horse as fast as you can while wearing armor
and then putting what is quite a small tip onto a fairly small target while everything's moving
and you're looking through something that's just like a postage slot.
Although he fell off his horse earlier, Australian Cliff Marissima emerged the
winner after rounds of competition. He was visibly overwhelmed.
Honored. Privileged. Grateful. Good.
The annual competition is in its third year and attracts enthusiasts from all over the world.
The first recorded jousting tournament was held in 1066.
Encounters sometimes ended in death, including that of French King Henry II in 1559.
